WHAT IS RAMP

The majority of mobile devices from as low as Midp 1.0 through to Google Android, iPhone, Blackberry etc are supported and in conjunction with NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) validated security the platform is the logical choice for transactional applications aimed at feature and smart phones in both developing and first world economies.

The platform significantly reduces the skill-set and team size required to produce and main-tain enterprise ready mobile applications. Mobile applications built on RAMP can be deployed on a global scale. Scalability is a core aspect of the architecture and language packs are supported. Mass deployment is supported via URL download, SMS request or push.

Change management is supported via over the air (OTA) updates. Applications are updated without the user having to re-download and updates are automatically initiated on login if a change was made on the server.

Devices from Midp 1.0 onwards are supported on RAMP. A single development effort runs on all supported devices and platforms without the development team having to be concerned with specific device and platform issues. RAMP manages the mobile device fragmentation and addresses all issues. As new mobile devices and platforms are released the RAMP platform will be updated to accommodate the devices.

All security algorithms supported on the RAMP platform is NIST validated.

The RAMP mobile enterprise application platform allows for a stateful client. This enables the platform to ensure transaction reliability in an unstable network environment. Should connec-tivity be lost during a transaction the RAMP platform will be able to inform the user whether the transaction was completed or not.

RAMP applications have a very small and fixed initial download size. This ensures compatibilityon a very large mobile device base in both emerging and developed economies.

RAMP significantly reduces the skill set and team size required for secure mobile application development. Development time is reduced to a few months with the required skill-set and team size reduced from several teams with specialist skills to a couple of developers or web designers.

Updates or maintenance of the mobile application is limited to one development area, instead of several platform specific development areas.

Changes made to mobile applications on the RAMP platform will automatically reflect when users login to their applications. On login RAMP checks if any updates or changes have been made, if it detects a change the new version is automatically downloaded without the client having to re-download the application. The required changes only have to be made in one location on the RAMP platform for it to reflect on all mobile devices and platforms.

The RAMP platform allows secure cross-platform mobile enterprise applications to be cre-ated in a fraction of the time and cost when compared to traditional mobile development approaches. The resulting application instantly runs on hundreds of devices without the de-veloper needing to be concerned with the intricacies of each mobile platform. The RAMP secure mobile enterprise solution can be deployed as a standalone application or as an embedded application within another mobile application. The embedded application approach in itself represents a major opportunity. RAMP is able to embed mobile applications (such as commerce portals, Myspace-like user pages, etc.) within mobile applications that can be remotely updated and managed.

The RAMP platform consists of a server that compiles the UXML, CSS and scripts generatedby the developer via the Eclipse plug-in and a set of RAMP virtual machines (VMs) for each mobile platform. The server compiles the UXML, CSS and scripts into a network efficient format and the RAMP VMs pull down this compiled format and adapts the application to each mobile platform. This means that the developer only needs to write a single application that is then able to run on all the supported mobile platforms.

RAMP enables mobile applications to run on the largest possible range of mobile devices. The minimum requirement is that the device supports Java and has access to a data connection.
