Biography Raffaello Sanzio da Urbinowas one of the great Renaissance artists, best known for his Madonnas and his large figure compositions in the Vatican in Rome. As the son of a painter, his leaning towards art was set at an early age. His principal teachers were Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo and he was so successful that he was eventually dubbed "the prince of painters.”
