Rare Earth ElementsBy Aaron Arana
and
Ryan Strausbaugh
What are rare earth elements?
A Rare Earth element is any element of the lanthanide series.
Where can they be found? Rare Earth Elements can be found in Mountain Pass mine,
California, and in many other mines in China.
The blue dots represent Rare earth mineral deposits.
California only has 1 mine in operation that is re-opening, as you can see China has many but is closing due to over polluting.
What are they used for?
Rare earth elements are used for Car batteries, the iPhone, and most of modern technology (tablets, car batteries, Laptops, phones, etc.)
What are some careers created by Rare Earth Elements
Rare earth elements can produce jobs such as: Miners, Engineers, Managers, Planners, and Interrogators.
What would happen if we ran out?
If we did run out of rare earth elements, our way of living would change drastically. We need rare earth elements for Hybrid cars, the iPhone, Tablets, Laptops, TV's, and parts for windmills and so on. While they are very common and not “rare” they come in very small deposits and we need at least 136,000 tons a year and counting with the growing population.
