PRESIDENT MESSAGE

It is a great honour and privilege to introduce FAITH FAMILY OF NETWORKS, not only to new viewers, but also to new programmers and content providers that share a passion in spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, around the globe.

The reason we exist is to fulfil the Great Commission, and that is simply to spread the message of the good news of Jesus Christ wherever we go. Our own journey in fulfilling this commission started as travelling missionaries, driving to the small towns in South Africa and sharing the hope and love that is contained in the message of Christ. While many souls were added to the Kingdom in this manner, there was always a nagging feeling that we were not “doing enough” or that we could be more effective in getting the gospel out to more people, more quickly.

It was around 2002 that God birthed a desire in our hearts to start a television ministry, increasing our effectiveness in reaching more people with the gospel and expanding the Kingdom of God. This has been an amazing journey characterized by the grace and mercy of God, and even more so by His love for the world.

Today, 15 years on, Faith Broadcasting Network is an effective and strong voice for the gospel of Christ reaching millions of people all over the continent of Africa, the entire UK and other parts of Europe, as well as reaching a global audience through digital delivery. Our vision is a global reach, where we can add our efforts to others who share our passion for Jesus Christ!

Each programmer and content provider on our network has a unique way in conveying the Gospel of Christ, and by giving various approaches to so many different viewers, we ensure that the message will hit its mark. If you have never considered adding your unique voice to our audiences, may this be a time where you consider expanding your reach to impact Africa with the Kingdom! BROADCAST DIVISION OVERVIEW

Christian television on the continent of Africa has grown extensively over the last 15 years, both on satellite as well as terrestrially. The forerunner to this explosion was the introduction of Christian television in 1986 via terrestrial broadcasts in the Eastern Cape. Dr Bernhard Roebert, father of Dr André Roebert, headed up the small television station in Bhisho, capital of the former Ciskei. The vision for a television broadcast division as part of River Ministries was birthed early in 2002, when God firmly placed the desire in Dr André and Jenny’s hearts.

In 2002 the founders of River Ministries, Drs André & Jenny Roebert, started River Broadcasting Network (part of River Ministries), which broadcast Christian programmes on the DStv Commercial Platform. The purpose for the network was to establish a 24/7 channel with exclusively Christian content. Since terrestrial broadcasts were prohibitively expensive to cover all of South Africa, it was decided to rather pursue broadcast via satellite. So it was that RBN started broadcasting on a shared, free-to-air space on an educational channel operated by Pretoria University. At that time the entire system was manually operated with two BetaCam machines being fed tapes by an operator!

Soon after the launch of the channel, RBN was contacted by one of the largest Christian television networks in the USA and offered free content. The approach of the president of this international network was always that the Gospel of Christ was free; he was, therefore, happy to provide content to further the spreading of this Gospel over Africa. At a later stage the branding of the USA network was offered to the channel in South Africa and until the time of the president’s death this remained in place.

FAMILY OF NETWORKS

With a new line-up of quality Christian programming, RBN was in a position to apply for, and obtain a channel on the national satellite bouquet of Multichoice Africa. After 15 years and a rebranding, FAITH FAMILY OF NETWORKS is providing choice Christian content to satellite and terrestrial, and digital viewers accross the continent of Africa and beyond.

Through the years the premium Christian channel on DStv341 was complimented by the addition of another satellite channel – FlowTV (Sky UK 595). FAITH FAMILY OF NETWORKS now potentially commands the attention in excess of 50 million viewers across its satellite channels.

Today a state-of-the-art FCC facility broadcasts the signal from the FAITH FAMILY OF NETWORKS’ headquarters in East London, South Africa. In addition, various studios have been built from where programmes are recorded and broadcast live to television audiences. With the advent of Social Media, FAITH FAMILY OF NETWORKS now incorporates fully interactive live broadcasts (internet streaming and social media platforms) in addition to the satellite transmissions.

Since May 2016 FAITH FAMILY OF NETWORKS is also distributed digitally more widely by adding its programming to other platforms; global viewers are now exposed to the content via Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, Android TV, as well as a new streaming application via the Apple App Store and Google Play. In addition, VOD services are provided via FaithOnDemand, Truli and NUVU. This exposure increases the FAITH FAMILY OF NETWORKS potential viewership to approximately 250 million worldwide.

Flow TV (UK)The United Kingdom has 63.2 million people, of which 37.6 million are Christian. Sky has a subscriber base of 11.2 million.

STUDIO ARENOVATIONSThe River Group acquired their current headquarters in East London in September 1999 as a direct action based on a vision from God given to Dr André Roebert. On 5 May 1999, acting on an urging of the Holy Spirit, Dr André stopped next to one of the old Farmers Cooperative Union wool warehouses on the banks of the Buffalo River, next to East London harbour, and walked inside. While on the main auction floor God showed him a vision of what this old building would be turned into in the future, housing many ministries under one roof. Spurred on by the Spirit of God he immediately contacted the owners and started negotiating the purchase of the 55 000 square metre building. At the time the owners had received, and turned down and offer to purchase the building for R16 million from another interested party. The instructions from God was clear and Dr André offered R4,5 million, which through the intervention of God was accepted by the FCU.

Since September 1999 the old warehouse has undergone consistent renovation to house the different departments and divisions of the ministry. Today it has television studios, a broadcast playout centre for multiple channels, administration offices, humanitarian aid warehouses, storage facilities, a Bible school, classrooms, canteens and workshops.

The main broadcast studio (housed on the original auction floor) was earmarked for a major renovation, since the main studio is used to broadcast live services and major events hosting international speakers and artists.

Construction on Phase 1 commenced in May 2015 and was completed in December 2016. This phase of the overall renovation, now simply referred to as the “Dome Project”, is an exciting R30 million faith project to step into the next expansion God has in store for His Kingdom. The Gospel will be spread, as it has for the past decade, via many television channels, from the Studio in East London to the farthest corners of the globe.

Once completed in its entirety, The Dome @River Park will contribute to the changing skyline of East London and become a landmark to visitors arriving by air or road. The dome will cover a new television broadcast facility that has been designed to house conferences, worship, music and other events. The television studio will be able to seat audiences of thousands attending the filming of live and pre-recorded programmes.
