The Pope agreed and appointed the mayor as the new and rightful king, who took the throne and the power. The old king was sent to a monastery to live out his days. This story is filled with further intrigue and behind the scene scheming. In sharp contrast is the coming of our King of Glory, Christ Jesus. His coming was prophesied hundreds of years before by Isaiah and Micah the Old Testament prophets. Christ came into a sinful world with no schemes for power, but rather, gave up the glory of heaven to live among us and to take upon Himself our sin. The only scheming done around His birth is that of another king, Herod, who later asked the Wise Men or Magi where the Christ child is to be born (only to kill Him, not to worship Him). In Jesus’ adult years, scribes and Pharisees, would scheme to destroy Him as well, trying to trap Jesus in His words. Satan would try his best to tempt Jesus into worshipping him and to give up on God the Father’s plan of salvation, but, to no effect. Jesus, despite all the schemes, lies, and even his own disciples forsaking Him, presses on to the end, the cross, the grave, and the open tomb. There is power in pressing on with what God has given us to do in our church, our marriages, our work, our culture, and our political-government structure. Press on in the new year with joy because Christ has come and with hope because He is coming again for us and our salvation. God’s Gift of Jesus Christ.

Immanuel Lutheran Church, School and Child Care Center

604 S Chestnut Ave., Marshfield, WI

Dear Friends in Christ,

Blessed Advent Season to you. We begin the month of December in the Church

season of Advent, preparing our hearts and minds for the joyful celebration of Christ’s

birth on Christmas Eve/Day.

In the middle ages there was a powerful mayor of Paris and the surrounding area. He

was supposed to help the king, but instead he wanted power for himself and planned to

establish his own family as the ruling House of Paris and of the newly forming Holy

Roman Empire. This mayor wrote to the Pope at the time, with a manipulative intent,

asking the Pope, who needed powerful allies, “what good was an ineffective and

powerless king?” The mayor was referring to his own king who should have had his

support, but rather was being undone by his servant. The Pope agreed and appointed

the mayor as the new and rightful king, who took the throne and the power. The old

king was sent to a monastery to live out his days.

This story is filled with further intrigue and behind the scene scheming. In sharp

contrast is the coming of our King of Glory, Christ Jesus. His coming was prophesied

hundreds of years before by Isaiah and Micah the Old Testament prophets. Christ

came into a sinful world with no schemes for power, but rather, gave up the glory of

heaven to live among us and to take upon Himself our sin. The only scheming done

around His birth is that of another king, Herod, who later asked the Wise Men or Magi

where the Christ child is to be born (only to kill Him, not to worship Him). In Jesus’ adult

years, scribes and Pharisees, would scheme to destroy Him as well, trying to trap

Jesus in His words.

Satan would try his best to tempt Jesus into worshipping him and to give up on God the

Father’s plan of salvation, but, to no effect. Jesus, despite all the schemes, lies, and

even his own disciples forsaking Him, presses on to the end, the cross, the grave, and

the open tomb. There is power in pressing on with what God has given us to do – in

our church, our marriages, our work, our culture, and our political-government

structure. Press on in the new year with joy because Christ has come and with hope

because He is coming again for us and our salvation.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in Christ the King,

Pastor David A Faulkner

Recycle For Missions

Immanuel is reviving its Aluminum recycling pro-

gram to provide funds for our Children of Com-

passion Ministry to make it self supporting. Any

extra funds will go to another of our mission minis-

tries. There is a barrel for individual cans and

small numbers of cans in the hallway between

Church and school. Larger bags can be placed

in the double door closet in the hallway near the

rear entrance. Our custodian will transfer the col-

lected cans to our garage for redemption by pro-

ject coordinator, David Henning. If you have

large numbers of cans or are unable to get your

cans to Church, you may call Dave at 715-676-

2555 for pickup. Leave a message if no answer—

he will call back to arrange pickup. This is a win-

win for Immanuel—we provide funds for Immanuel

Missions, and we help the world that God has en-

trusted to us.
