CMS is equipping teachers to teach students in a remote, hybrid and/or in person environment.PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT and SUPPORTING RESOURCES for all teachers continue to be provided to support the ability of teachers to teach all students, including English language learners and students with exceptionalities, across new and varied learning modalities.

There is CONSISTENCY in the location of information and resources, making accessing resources easier for students and parents.

Additional vetting measures ensure ACCURACY of curricular materials provisioned.

Learning community and equity staff consistently MONITOR THE EFFECTIVENESS of remote and in person instructional practices, providing coaching and feedback for school leaders.

FLEXIBILITY is offered to families in all facets of the remote learning experience, particularly regarding due dates for completion of assignments and necessary accommodations and modifications for specific students.

Efforts to reduce SCREEN TIME have been enacted in district-provided curricular resources and instructional expectations and in school-based master scheduling practices.

Middle School and K-8 Athletics - Canceled• We will not offer sports in middle school and K-8 for the remainder of this

school year.

• The closure is in part due to a compacted high school sports season calendar and complications with field utilization.

• High schools will work with their feeder middle schools to access the facilities on middle school campuses.

• High school club sport teams will be permitted to use off site facilities as long as these facilities are equipped to comply with the safety guidance that has been outlined by the NCHSAA.

Assessment of CMS Readiness • Operationally (e.g., current staffing levels, PPE availability, etc.), CMS is

prepared to support a return to in-person learning

• Mitigation strategies (e.g., symptom screening, masks, social distancing), at previous in-person attendance levels, helped limit spread in schools

• Anticipate need for additional contact tracing support as additional students and teachers return to buildings

New Public Health Guidance From County TodayPublic Health Director issued a Public Health Director’s Directive earlier today

• Directive informed by “exponential growth” from September 2020 to the present in multiple key metrics including positivity rate and hospitalizations

• Calls for immediate action from the community

• Several recommendations, including, though not limited to, utilizing full virtual options for work, school and any other activities where in-person is not required

• Asserts that extra precautions, taken over the next 3 weeks, will decrease spread and result in key metrics moving toward acceptable ranges
