ST. VINCENT DE PAUL

The challenge in today’s Gospel, is to

forget how others have behaved toward

us and to look to God’s way of loving

and forgiving. Our focus must be on

God.

Is there a neighbor or friend of yours

who is in temporary need because of a

loss of a job or an illness? Please leave

a message for the Society of St. Vincent

de Paul…we want to help!

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I

love you above all things and I desire to receive you in my soul. Since I

cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, come at least

spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there

and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from

you. Amen.

The Dispensation From the Sunday Obligation to Attend

Mass has been granted and extended to All the Faithful

through Monday, November 23, 2020

While in-person Masses are still being offered, the dispensation relieves

the burden of conscience on those who have legitimate grave fears of

contracting COVID-19 or who care for vulnerable individuals, the directive

states. Those older than 65 years old (the recommended CDC age), those

with a compromised health condition or those caring for the sick in any

way, are encouraged to stay home. Anyone who is ill, has a temperature,

cough, etc., should definitely stay home as an act of justice to the whole

community.

Catholics who engage in other activities which would present a similar or

greater risk of contamination (eating out at restaurants, traveling, non-

essential shopping, widening one’s circle of contacts, etc.) should begin to

return to Sunday Mass as they are able. While Catholics are not obliged to

attend Mass in person, they still have a “grave necessity” to keep holy the

Lord’s day, the directive reminds the faithful.

NOTES FROM PAUL

In this weekend’s Gospel (MT 18:21-35) we hear about the Master

who forgives the debt of his servant because the servant humbled

himself and asked for forgiveness. We also hear how this servant was

hard hearted when another servant owed him money. We are that first

servant, who has been forgiven the debt of our sins (assuming that we

ask for the Master to do so in Confession) by the death and resurrection

of Jesus. He doesn’t owe us that forgiveness, but he gives it anyway. I

wonder how often we are also like that first servant when we harden our

hearts against someone, another sinner, when they owe us a debt. It is

hard to forgive, but remember every time we pray the Our Father we ask

God to “forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass

against us.” I actually pray he forgives me better than I forgive. I know I

need to work on it, or the Master may be chastising me at some point.

God Bless you,

Paul Zbytowski

CATHOLIC SERVICES APPEAL 2020

The theme for the 2020 Catholic Services Appeal takes inspiration from the

city of Detroit’s motto given by Fr. Gabriel Richard, “We hope for better things;

it will rise from the ashes. ”These are also the words Jesus speaks to his

disciples after the Transfiguration: “Rise and be not afraid” (Matthew 17:7).

This year, as our families, parishes, and communities find ways to continue

the mission of Christ amid new challenges, we are reminded that we too must

rise up, follow Christ, and share with others the peace and joy that comes from

knowing we are loved and that God is with us at all times. Please consider

making a gift today.

PRAYER FOR

GRANDPARENTS

Grandparents are cherished members of

our family. They bring gifts of wisdom,

experience, and love and share with us

their life of faith. We thank God for

their example and ask that he bless them

with happiness and good health.

Lord God almighty,

bless our grandparents with

long life, happiness, and health.

May they remain constant

in your love and be living signs of

your presence to their

children and grandchildren.

We ask this through

Christ our Lord.

Amen.
