BAA makes cost savings of more than £1.8 million

with agile virtualised datacenter

BAA partnered with Computacenter to design, plan and implement a new virtual datacenter (VDC). Computacenter assisted at every stage of the project – from evaluating BAA’s existing datacenter environment and the best workloads to migrate to the virtual devices to testing and integration. The VDC includes in-built disaster recovery capabilities as well as network virtualisation to maximise uptime and flexibility.

It’s big and it’s getting bigger. Global data volumes are predicted to hit a staggering 7.9 zettabytes by 20152. A lot of this growth is being driven by big data – videos, music, CRM data, satellite photos, and globalisation.

According to McKinsey Global Institute, the effective analysis of big data will underpin new waves of productivity growth, innovation and consumer surplus3. However, unlike other corporate data sets, big data is often too large, too raw, too unstructured or created too quickly to be captured, stored and analysed using traditional management tools. NHS Medway reduces costs with centralised storage environment

A steady growth in digital information meant that

NHS Medway was running short on storage capacity.

To help Kent and Medway Health Informatics Service (KMHIS) understand which technologies could best meet NHS Medway’s requirements, Computacenter organised a series of demonstrations at the Solutions Centre4. After assisting with the evaluation, Computacenter went on to help KMHIS procure, implement and integrate the solution.

By automatically compressing and archiving any data that has not been accessed in the last nine months, KMHIS will be able to significantly reduce primary storage requirements as well as reduce the backup window and recovery time for NHS Medway.

Clinical and administrative staff at NHS Medway can now access the information they need faster and with greater reliability. This helps them make better and more timely decisions about patient care.
