Help save us all moneyIn 2013-14 we recycled and treated nearly 75% of the waste we collected from your homes, but the amount of rubbish we collected in your black sacks is increasing – about a quarter of this is food waste.Collectingandsendingyourrubbishtolandfillorspecialisedtreatmentismuchmoreexpensivethanrecyclingit.YoupayforthisinyourCounciltax,soifeveryonereduced,recycledandcompostedevenmorewecouldsavemoneytouseforotherimportantcouncilservices.It costs us around:
£60 on average, per household each year to collect and dispose of your black sack rubbish.
£42 on average, per household to collect and treat your green box, food and cardboard recycling.

How to put out your recycling and rubbish on collection dayWecollectyourrecyclingandrubbishonthesamedayoftheweekbutwithdifferentvehicles.Allcollectionsareweeklyexceptgardenwastewhichisfortnightly.WecollectasnormalonallbankholidaysexceptoverChristmasandNewYear.
You must: • Put out your containers by 7am on your collection
day but not before 8pm on the previous night.• Put out your containers at the front edge of your

3. Take it to your Recycling Centre for free.
You must use your weekly collection only for things you can’t recycle. Do not put food waste in your rubbish.Itisyourresponsibilitytomakesureyourrubbishissecurelycontainedtohelpkeepourstreetsclean.
Please• Use black plastic sacks or tied carrier bags to contain your rubbish
for collection.• Or use a normal dustbin to store your sacks and put out your bin
on collection day.• Don’t overfill your sacks so we can lift them
without splitting.
• Use strong plastic sacks, and tie them to help prevent animals and birds ripping them open.
• Wrap anything sharp (like broken glass) in newspaper to keep our crews safe.
