The Reds selected outfielder Phillip Ervin with their first pick of the

2013 draft. A native of Leroy, Alabama, Ervin played at Samford

University at batted .337 with 11 HR, 40 RBI, and 21 stolen bases in

2013. After signing with the Reds, he played in 46 games with Billings

and Dayton, batting .331 with 9 HR, 35 RBI and 14 stolen bases. Ervin

was the 2012 MVP of the prestigious Cape Cod League.

Seth Mejias-Brean was selected as the 2013 winner of the Sheldon “Chief” Bender Award asthe Reds Minor League Player of the Year. Mejias-Brean spent most of the year with theDragons and led the entire Reds organization in batting average and runs batted in while adding11 home runs and playing gold glove quality defense at both first base and third base. Mejias-Brean was responsible for perhaps the most dramatic win in Dragons history on July 18 whenhe connected on a “walk-off” grand slam home run with the Dragons trailing by three runs inthe bottom of the ninth inning against Beloit. From May 12 through the end of the season,Mejias-Brean batted .338 with 10 home runs and led the Midwest League with a .927 OPS.This award honors Bender’s 64 years in baseball including the last 39 years of his career in theReds’ scouting and player development system. Bender passed away in 2008. Twelve of the14 winners of the award since its inception in 2000 have been current or former Dragons.

The radio home for Dragons Baseball is WONE 980 AM. All games can also be heard live world-wide via the internet at www.daytondragons.com. All the Dragons action begins with the pre-game show 30 minutes before the first pitch of every Dragons game, featuring game previews,interviews, and lineups. Each Dragons game is followed by an extensive post-game show fea-turing game recaps, interviews, and out of town scores.

For the 15th consecutive season, the Dragons will provide television coverage of selectgames in the Miami Valley. In 2014, the Dragons will televise 25 home games including mostThursday-Saturday games. Game broadcasts will be available on WHIO Channel 7.2(Channels 23 and 372 on Time Warner Cable) and are produced by the Dragons in-housestaff. An impressive list of commentators join Dragons Director of Broadcasting Tom Nicholson the telecasts. Guest commentators include former Dragons manager Todd Benzinger,Hall-of-Fame writer Hal McCoy, former Reds players Tommy Helms, Bill Doran, and DougBair, former Reds executive Grant Griesser, Ohio State University broadcaster Paul Keels,Dayton sports media personalities Mike Hartsock and Larry Hansgen, Reds public addressannouncer Joe Zerhusen, and Reds blogger/Media Relations assistant Jamie Ramsey.

Tom Nichols - Radio & Television Play-by-play

Nichols is the voice of the Dragons on radio and television in addition to serving asthe club’s Director of Media Relations. The 2014 season is Nichols’ seventh year withthe Dragons and his 27th year in professional baseball. He has broadcast over 3,000minor league games since beginning his career in 1988 and has worked at everylevel of Minor League Baseball. He earned Broadcaster of the Year honors in theDouble-A Southern League with the Mobile BayBears and has also worked with theTriple-A Indianapolis Indians of the International League, the Kinston (N.C.) Indiansof the Carolina League, the Peoria Chiefs and Fort Wayne Wizards of the MidwestLeague, and the Gary SouthShore RailCats of the Northern League. Tom is a BallState University graduate and a native of Muncie, Indiana, where he was inductedinto the Delaware County Athletics Hall-of-Fame in 2009.

Brendan Gulick - Radio play-by-play Brendan joins the Dragons in 2014 as a media relations assistant and radio broad-caster. A 2013 graduate of John Carroll University, he was selected last year asone of the top 10 college sports broadcasters in the nation by the SportscastersTalent Agency of America (STAA) and chosen as the top college broadcaster inOhio in both 2012 and 2013. He spent the 2013 season as a broadcaster for theRockford Aviators of the Frontier League and in 2012, he announced games for theLorain County Ironmen, a college summer league team. Brendan’s experienceincludes work in media relations for the Cleveland Indians and an internship withthe Lake County Captains of the Midwest League. Most recently, he served as thelead play-by-play voice of Southwestern Oklahoma State University for football andbasketball. Brendan is a native of the Cleveland suburb of Strongsville, Ohio.

2014 CREDENTIALS: Credentials are for working media only and are the property ofDayton Professional Baseball and may be revoked at any time. CREDENTIALS MUST BE WORN AND VISIBLE AT ALL TIMES.

DAILY CREDENTIALS: Credentials will be issued to those news gathering organizationswhich do not qualify for season credentials. To obtain credentials, your initial request must bemade in writing to the Dragons Media Relations Department. Once your initial request hasbeen approved, you may fax or phone in subsequent requests. The deadline for game dayrequests is one day prior to the game you wish to cover.

ADMISSION: Credentialed members of the working media can only gain entrance to FifthThird Field through the suite holder gate located on Fifth Third Field's west side. Credentialswill not be honored at any other entrance to the stadium. All members of the media with aDragons Credential must sign in with security before entering the facility.

VIDEO TAPING: Video taping during games is limited to the designated filming areas ofFifth Third Field. During pre and post game, taping on the field and dugout is at the discretionof the Dragons Field Staff and Media Relations Staff.

FIELD LEVEL: Only credentialed members of the media are allowed on the field level atFifth Third Field. While on the field level, media must remain on the warning track and off ofthe grass. All media must clear the field a minimum of thirty (30) minutes prior to sched-uled game time.

CLUBHOUSE: The clubhouse is off-limits to the media an hour before game time anduntil 10 minutes following a game. Availability to the clubhouse is at the discretion of theDragons Field Staff and cannot always be guaranteed during normal open times. Contact amember of the Dragons Media Relations staff regarding restrictions on clubhouse access.THE TRAINING ROOM IS STRICTLY OFF-LIMITS AT ALL TIMES.

PRESS BOX: The press box is located on the upper level of Fifth Third Field, directly behindhome plate. Entrance to the press box is on the suite level. No food or drink is to leave thepress box area. The press box is available to the working media only . No spouses, guests orchildren of credentialed media will be allowed in the press box.

STATISTICS & INFORMATION: Game notes and statistical information will be availablein the press box approximately two hours before game time. If specific information is neededearlier, contact the Dragons Media Relations Department to make arrangements.

INTERVIEWS: Clubhouse interviews are available both before and after the game at thenormal posted times (see Clubhouse). Check with the Dragons Media Relations Staff regard-ing interviews during off-days or at different times other than the regular clubhouse hours.

BATTING PRACTICE: Members of the media are welcome to attend batting practice, butcannot interview players during BP. A Dragons representative will be on the field at all timesduring batting practice to answer questions and monitor activity. While on the field, mediamembers must stay in foul territory, off the grass, to avoid injury.

AUTOGRAPHS: Working members of the media are prohibited from seeking autographs atFifth Third Field.
