Refrigeration NotesECI upgrade process

IntroductionThis document describes the process of upgrading the ECI (Energy Controls International) RC and ERC store controller systems. It is anticipated that a single AK2-SC255 will replace multiple ECI host devices (RC & ERC), thus representing a cost effective upgrade path. The implementation of the AK2-SC255 brings other benefits when adding future equipment on site as these can be ‘added’ to the existing AK2-SC255.

To facilitate the support of ECI I/O boards a Danfoss ECI upgrade kit (080Z2110) is available. The kit contains all necessary parts to ensure a smooth and error free control transfer.

ECI Upgrade Kit (order# 080Z2110)The ECI upgrade kit comes with the following components;

• Serial Adapter (mounted on plastic snap track)•12 VAC Transformer Power Supply• Echelon Gateway (custom configured for ECI upgrade)• Interconnecting ribbon cable

Principle of upgradeThe upgrade procedure entails installing communication equipment (ECI upgrade kit) that allows system read / write to the existing ECI I/O equipment. Each ECI 1000/2000 series host controller gets replaced with a Gateway + Serial Adapter (unless the combined I/O still have unique address for all module types.)The Danfoss AK2-SC255 communicates with the existing ECI I/O via the upgrade kit. Each addressable gateway can replace an ECI host controller and can interface with the full complement of 39 I/O modules. In order to support the ECI upgrade the AK2-SC255 must have software version R02.031 or above.

Recommended upgrade procedureThe following steps represent a typical approach to upgrading the ECI controls network. Do not attempt this upgrade if you are not familiar with the Danfoss AK2-SC255 and have no experience in commissioning the AK2-SC255 database.

Make current configuration backup of ECI

For convenience it is recommended that a ‘pull back’ of the original ECI front end configuration is made, for maximum ease print out the ECI configuration ready for the translation to the AK2-SC255.

Translate ECI configuration to AK2-Sc255

This manual process is best done with a record of the existing ECI configuration and translated into the AK2-SC255 database via the AKA65 software tool (either off-line or locally connected). Contact Danfoss for training / support.

Set the AK2-SC255 preferences to ‘Legacy I/O type’ Typical ECI configuration screen

Typical relay assignment - Board & Channel

Typical Input assignment, Board & Channel

Right click on Board & Point type. Select F4 - ECI sensor type

The compressor relays from ECI now addressed on gateway #1. (first number could go up to 6, for 6 gateways). G-MM-PP (Gateway - Module (board) - Point (Channel).Note: In ECI controllers boards above 8 were assigned as letters (10 =A, 11=B, etc) When assigning in the 255 use the board number.

Install Equipment

Install the AK2-SC255, Gateway, Serial Adapter and the transformer power supply. Route appropriate cable from the AK2-SC255 to the Echelon gateway and connect to Network connector port. Assign an address for the gateway via the bit-switch.

Use dip switch 1, 2 & 3 to assign address (Binary assignment = address 1-6) Dip switch 4 should be in On position (Up) Dip switch 5, 6 ,7 to assign network ‘throttle’. Leave as factory default Dip 5 On 6 & 7 Off Dip switch 8 Off position

Tip: Try and set the Gateway address the same as the comm address for the ECI host being replaced. It may assist in programming the AK2-SC255.

ECI pressure assignments converted to new format.

Note when using 8 channel modules, point number will be assigned as 1- 8. When using a 16 board, use format 01-16 (the leading 0 indicates a 16 channel board)

Recommended upgrade procedue

Take care & ensure the dip switches are in the correct position. Pay particular attention to bit switch 4 - this MUST be in the upward position (On).

Communication re-diret

Re-route the serial I/O cable out of the ECI front end system you are replacing and insert in the serial comm port of the Serial Adapter. Any subsequent ECI front end systems must be inserted in a serial / daisy chain format.Verify the I/O network is on line & correctly registered in the AK2-SC255.

After the installation is compete and all network components are installed check (via the AK2-SC255) that all communications to the I/O points are available.

Confirm & check network

Technical Notes:The addressing scheme used in AK2-SC255 communications to the ECI nodes conforms to the following structure;ECI I/O addressing - GMM-PP Where G = Gateway address MM= ECI I/O Board address PP= Point number on ECI I/O

Echelon Gateway & Serial Adapter require 12VAC
