So far in 2017, over 60,000 Syrian refugees in the 3RP countries have received or are receiving services related to the prevention and response to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). Furthermore, more than 21,000 individuals have been trained on protection including child protection and SGBV services.
In Jordan, the Annual report on SGBV for 2016 was released which highlighted the improved access to self-reliance opportunities for individuals at risk of SGBV and survivors. The need for improved access to services for those who live in isolation or marginalized situations was also highlighted. Moreover, it emphasized the need to further strengthen the referral component by working more closely with actors providing outreach, screening and awareness raising as well as health, legal, psychological support, safety/security and livelihood component, and to ensure community-based complaint and referral mechanism are in place and functioning well.
In Iraq, Protection partners made significant progress in building the capacity of mobile teams of the Directorate of Combating Violence Against Women covering refugee and IDP camps as well as urban locations in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Partners developed an inter-agency plan for addressing prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse in refugee settings in Iraq.
