commemorating the victory
of Indian Army over
Pakistan in 1971 war. A
number of ex-servicemen,
who fought in the war,
participated in the
celebrations across the
country. This year 's
celebration marks the 46th
anniversary of India's
victory over its neighbour.
On December 16, 1971,

thousand troops,
surrendered to the allied
forces, comprising the
Indian Army and the Mukti
Nation celebrates Vijay Diwas; PM
salutes soldiers who fought 1971 War

Eastern Army Commander.
On the occasion, a wreath-
laying ceremony was held
at Colaba Military Station
in Mumbai this morning.
Prime Minister Shri
Narendra Modi has saluted
the unflinching courage of
all those who fought in the
1971 War and protected the
nation diligently. In a tweet,
on the occasion of Vijay
Diwas, Shri Modi said,
every Indian is proud of
their heroism and service.
Allahabad, Dec 16
President Shri Ramnath
Kovind has emphasized on
conducting judicial work in
common man's language.
Addressing a function at
the Allahabad High Court
after laying the foundation
stone of Nyaya Gram
project, he said,
adjournments of court
hearings should be
avoided to provide justice
to poor people.
President Shri Kovind also
called for strengthening the
alternative judicial system
to provide justice faster
and in the least expensive
manner. He said, this
system will help in
expeditious disposal of
pending cases. He
appreciated both the
bench and bar of
Allahabad High Court for
taking initiatives to expedite
the pending cases in lower
judiciary.
Shri Kovind also
emphasized the need to
provide judgements in
local languages.
Speaking on the occasion,
Uttar Pradesh Governor
Shri Ram Naik said,
measures should be taken
to deliver justice to poor
people with honesty and
without any delay.
Chief Minister Yogi
Adityanath said, his
government is always ready
to provide assistance for
strengthening the judicial
infrastructure. He urged
both bench and bar to be alert
on PIL being filed for the
sake of publicity. He said,
this trend adversely affects
the common causes.

by mortgaging fake gold

Blair. Gold loans to the tune
of Rs 20 crores have been
disbursed by various
Cooperative Bank gold loan fraud;
Police arrest mastermindbranches of A&N State
Cooperative Bank.
However, after many
customers started
defaulting on loan
payments, it came to light
that the gold ornaments
pledged with the bank
were fake.

The Finance Ministry has
raised customs duty on
some electronic items
including television, mobile
phone, projector and water
heater in order to boost
domestic manufacturing.
As per a government
notification, customs duty
on television set has been
increased to 15 per cent
from the existing 10 per cent.
Similarly, the duty on
monitors and projectors has
been doubled to 20 per cent,
said the notification issued
by Department of Revenue
of the Ministry.
For the push button
telephone or mobile, the
duty has been raised to 15
per cent from nil while water
heater and hair dressing
instrument duty has been
doubled to 20 per cent.
Customs duty on some other
items like electric filament and
discharge lamps was also
tweaked.

named "Winter Dream" and

emblem launching ceremony

FIFA has suspended the head

federation Marco Polo Del
Nero for 90 days over a
breach of its rules. FIFA ethics
committee, in a statement, said
the decision bans Del Nero
from any football-related
activities during this period. The
duration of the ban may be
extended for an additional
period not exceeding 45 days.
The 76-year-old Del Nero was
accused of accepting a 6.5
million euro commission. In the
wake of these accusations, the
ethics committee opened an
inquiry that led to his
suspension.
FIFA bans head of Brazilian
football federation
urged the banks to conduct financial literacy camps, specially rural branches, to
conduct one camp per month. Smti Selma Sunny, Manager, NABARD stressed on the
need to focus on priority sectors such as agriculture to improve credit flow. In his
address, Lead District Manager, SBI Shri K Mohan Rao reviewed the progress made
during the September Quarter and also discussed various steps to improve the

In the valedictory programme which followed the technical session, Shri Vishal Jolly,
Member, HMAC, GOI was the chief guest. While speaking, Shri Jolly informed that
the PBMC is open to providing free accommodation to children in need from inter-
islands. Declaring this in the presence of the Chairperson, PBMC, Shri Inder Pal
Singh, Shri Vishal Jolly informed the gathering that eight rooms in the Yatri Niwas at
Anarkali Basti have been especially earmarked for this purpose. Dr Poonam Arora,
Chairperson (SSWB) was also present in this programme which ended with the vote
of thanks proposed by Smti Kiran Tigga, Chairperson, UT commission for protection

to obtain gold loans by mortgaging fake gold ornaments at various branches of ANSCB,
Port Blair. Soon a manhunt for the suspect Kalishwaran was mounted.
On Dec 14, following credible information, that accused Kalishwaran was expected to
arrive at Veer Savarkar airport from Chennai, a team was deployed at airport and on arrival
at airport he was immediately detained and put to sustained interrogation during which he
confessed to the crime and disclosed names of his accomplices in the crime. He also
disclosed the modus operandi adopted by them, stating that they used to take assistance
of known people in securing gold loans by mortgaging fake gold ornaments purchased
from Chennai. He told that since he was the Appraiser for the bank, he could pass off fake
gold as genuine. No one ever doubted the quality of gold and he could obtain multiple
gold loans using fake gold. He also said that there could be up to 500 fake gold loan
accounts in various branches of A&N Sate Cooperative bank.
The accused Kalishwaran was arrested and Police Custody remand has been obtained to
further unearth the facts and people involved in the crime. It is noteworthy that the
accused Kalishwaran had left the islands around four months ago when he suspected
that this scam could come to light.
The mastermind of the crime, Kalishwaran was arrested as a result of sustained investigation
conducted by the investigating team comprising Inspr. Sahil Shamsudin, SI P Jeevan and
SI Shilpi Singha under supervision of Shri. Nishant Gupta, Dy. SP, South Andaman.
