Did you know there is lots of important security information and links on the NHW web page of the Orston Parish website? Please have a look!
Credit card cloning or ‘skimming’ This is where someone obtains your credit card details and copies them onto a bogus card. Restaurants, bars, and petrol stations seem to be the places where credit card incidents happen most frequently. How does this happen? Method 1 - The scammer recruits an employee willing to participate in the scheme. Bartenders, waiting staff, or shop assistants are often prime targets. They are given a pocket-size device with a scanning slot, something that resembles a pager and can be worn on a belt. They swipe customers' credit cards through the device taking just a few seconds capturing all the details stored in the card's magnetic stripe. Prevention: Don’t let the card out of sight and keep a close watch on staff handling your card. Method 2 - Credit card ‘skimmers’ are placed over card swipe mechanisms at ATMs and petrol stations, or other types of credit card reader. Prevention: Check for credit card ‘skimmers’ anywhere you swipe your credit card, but especially at petrol stations and ATMs. If anything looks odd don’t use the machine. Method 3 – RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) fraud is less common but with ‘contactless’ cards becoming the norm it is an issue. It is an electronic form of pick-pocketing. Standing just six inches away criminals’ RFID readers can copy your bank details. Prevention: Use RFID-blocking sleeves or wallets for your cards. A metallic foil lining effectively blocks out any scanning attempts
Regular checking of your bank statements is always good practice. If you spot something that looks dodgy, contact your bank or building society immediately.

6.15pm Christmas Eve Orston Village Hall The cast list is filling up for this years’ extravaganza. Dave Standard and Liam Quegan are once more taking a Roman Soldier role (and the abuse of the crowd that goes with it) and Julian Humpheson is again filling the role of Simeon while Martin Seabrooke is perfectly cast as the Reader and Will Gunn is sorting everything on wheels or four legs. If you want an excuse to dress up then please join in. You can come along as an angel (no age limit), shepherd, villager or soldier....its up to you.
A very ad-hoc rehearsal will start off at
the Village Hall Sunday December 23rd at 2.00pm. On Christmas Eve, the Village Hall will be open from 6.00pm, and the procession will move off after 6.15pm. Please note that a temporary road closure order along Loughbon & The Green is likely to be in place from 6.00-6.30pm. Come along on Christmas Eve and be part of the history that has celebrated Christmas in Orston for over half a century. Any questions email [email protected], or ring/text Nick Hammond on 07931758441
