Term 1 Week 2 Date: 2nd February 2017

“Our School...Your Children...Their Future”

Welcome back everyone. I look forward to meeting all our new families and continuing the close working relationship with parents that is a strong part of the success of Eglinton school and the outstanding reputation this school has across Western Region. A big welcome to our newest staff members, Mrs Toni Quinn, Mrs Jenny Eagle and Mrs Amelia Garner. The year has started well with classes quickly established and settling into routine. Thank you for your support in this. The classes are as follows: KH Janean Hanlon KC Sue Craft KT Michelle Taylor. 1C Melissa Clare 1P Heleena Peters 1M Molly Cresswell 2 M Elizabeth Miller 2S Marybeth Smith 2/3C Margaret Chalmers 3L Susie Linkins/Jenny Eagle 3/4O Cheryl Owens 4H Peter Hanlon. 4A Jennifer Arnold 5T Tracey Hicks 5Q Toni Quinn 5/6M Joanne Michael 6A Cal Abbott 6C Cheryl Cluff K-3 P Fiona Proctor/Amelia Garner and 3-6C Laurie Clifford

A special welcome to our new families and students. I know teachers and students have made our newest children feel welcome. Stage groups or individual teachers have sent or will soon send a letter home to discuss class routines and personal items students will need.

Our school contribution structure helps with the purchase of a range of classroom resources. Fees for students in Years K to 6 for 2017 are $50 for the first child in a family, and $30 for every additional child thereafter up to three children attending the school. (Maximum $110). I thank you in advance for this contribution.

Here are just a few things for parents to consider as we start the New Year. 1. Are your contact and emergency contact details up to date at the front office? Please make this a priority if any of your details have changed. 2. Please avoid ‘door stop’ interviews with staff before or after school. A far better outcome is likely if an appointment is made with the teacher. 3. Would you like to be an active member of our parent community? There is something for every-one with an active P & C and a range of sub-committees. Please come and meet our P&C and sub-committees at a morning tea at school this Tuesday February 7th at 9:45am.

Gentleness

Gentleness is acting and speaking in a way which is considerate and kind to others.

The present structure of our formal award system is;

1. Students receive Class Awards for a positive aspect of their performance, attitude and achievements.

2. Once 5 Class Awards have been collected the student becomes eligible to achieve a Yellow Award that is presented at a whole school assembly.

3. When a student has received 3 Yellow Awards (15 Class Awards) they are presented with a Gold Award at a whole school assembly. The student is invited to sit on stage as recognition of their achievement for the duration of the assembly.

4. After a student has received 5 Gold Awards they are then presented with a School Banner. As a part of the presentation ceremony students are acknowledged with a standing ovation by the school, and invited to sit on the stage.

5. Students who receive a second School Banner are invited to sit on stage for subsequent school assemblies in recognition of their achievement.

Seeking new members. ALL WELCOME!

Welcome back everyone – new and old students. Hope you all had a wonderful holiday break and are ready for another busy year.

The uniform shop has been busy!!!! Very busy!!!!! Thank you everyone for supporting your school and coming to our uniform shop. All money raised goes to our P & C. We try to keep things priced as low as possible so everyone can wear the same and feel they belong. Our apologies if you are still waiting for something… stock was “running” out the door at the end of school holidays…Very busy!

We have sold out of Junior Backpacks… when they are back in, I will let you know via the newsletter.

Welcome new kindy families… we hope your child has a wonderful time at Big School.

Lost property is located at the end of the Kindy verandah.

Reminder to all: We have an order form available online and at the front school office. If you are unable to get to the shop, fill in the form, we will put it together and leave in the school office for you to collect when it suits you. Please provide your mobile number so I can text you when it’s in. Reminder: when you are collecting orders from the office there is no eftpos available.

A HUGE thank you to all our volunteers – without you the line would be out the gate!! Special mention to Bev Johnson who volunteered her last time on Monday. Bev has been volunteering at the Uniform Shop for 9 years. Her grandchildren have now started High School yet she still came and helped me on those days in January when the shop was open. Thank you Bev. You can always catch her at Rankin’s Cottage… Yes where she volunteers!

Thank you to Megan who was able to come in the school holidays too and volunteer. Such wonderful volunteers helping at the Uniform Shop… thank you to all… If you would like to volunteer too???? Just let me know. New volunteers always welcome.

See you Mondays, Denise
