Hehasmaintainedalongstandinginterestincelladhesionandmigration,focusingmainlyonthecellsurfaceproteoglycansofthesyndecanfamily.Recentworkhasinvolveddetailedstudiesofsyndecansignalinganditsrelevancetothebehaviouroftumourcells.

degreeinBiologicalSciences).AfterpostdoctoraltrainingatColumbiaUniversityonthemolecularcharacterizationofthalassemias,in1979hejoinedthefacultyofRutgersMedicalSchooltodefinetheunderlyingdefectsincollagen-relateddisorders.In1989,hejoinedtheMountSinaiSchoolofMedicinewhereheworkedonMarfansyndrometoidentifytheunderlyinggeneticdefectandtodemonstratethedirectinvolvementofextracellularmicrofibrilsinmodulatingTGFβandBMPbioavailability.CurrentresearcheffortfocusesonthemechanismsresponsibleformusculoskeletalandcardiovascularmanifestationsinmousemodelsofMarfansyndrome.

ajoint-facultypositionattheUniversityofTexasMDAndersonCancerCenter,Houston.HisresearchinterestisinthedevelopmentofImagingstrategiestoidentifythemechanismsandplasticityofcellmigrationinimmuneregulationandcancermetastasis,withemphasisoncell-matrixadhesion,pericellularproteolysisandcell-cellcommunicationduringmigration.Hislaboratoryidentifiedcollectivecancercellinvasion,pathwaysdeterminingdiversityandplasticityofcellmigration,andthecontributionofmigrationpathwaystoimmunedefenseandcancerresistance.
BenjaminGEIGERProf.BenjaminGeigerfocusesonthemechanismsresponsibleforcommunicationbetweencells,bothnormalandcancerous.Heisattemptingtoidentifyandtracethespecificmoleculesinvolvedincelladhesionand
