Renewal is happening at manylevels, including for some of AVA’smost valued staff.
As many of you would know, this isMark Thornley’s last AVJ as ManagingEditor as he has accepted a position withone of Australia’s leading medicalmagazines. Mark has upgraded thepresentation of the AVJ while at the sametime has negotiated reduced costs forproduction. His main role was to makeVetlife a reality, and while the magazine’slife was short, many members found thistitle a valuable addition to AVApublications.
Jennifer Docherty is making a verypositive career move to join a largenational association. Jen has transformedthe membership services section, commencing with the database andexpanding the scope of communicationservices to include eline for members, students, industry and employedveterinarians. She has also initiatedmember surveys so that the Board andstaff have timely feedback.
Eddie Ripard will further develop his
career by joining an industry associationas its Marketing and CommunicationsManager. Eddie’s work with the AVA hasbeen invaluable: he drove changes in themembership area prior to Jennifer’sarrival, has substantially increasedsponsorship, has grown affinity programsand has tirelessly sought to evaluatecurrent member benefits. Eddie has also
been AVA’s media person and many ofyou will have met him in that capacity.
Associations such as the AVA offer realopportunities to enthusiastic staff, however in order to continue theircareers, there comes a time when they domove on and Wentworth HR inform methat the industry average is about twoyears. So thanks to Mark, Jen and Eddie -we have all been beneficiaries of yourtime with the AVA.
There will be some changes to theformat of the AVJ, and I refer members tothe editorial in this edition for moredetail of your AVJ in 2006.
There will also be some changes inAVA staffing as we reflect on gains madeover the past three years and theimportance of giving members what theytell us they want, namely that AVA bemore visible and that there be a strongemphasis on supporting continuingeducation.
