Report of Seminar on “Open Source Content Management System”
Objective of the Seminar:
To motivate the participants to switch to open source software.
To make the participants aware of the fact that why are Open source CMS used
in 98% of all website or eCommerce site development.

Participants: 100+ students and 15+ faculty members participated in the session.
Summary:
Computer Engineering Department of Sarvajanik College of Engineering & Technology organized
a seminar session on “Open Source Content Management System” in association with CSI student
chapter and under the head of OSTC and R & D committee, SCET, Surat on 19th
February 2016.
The seminar was aimed to motivate the participants to switch to open source software and to
make the participants aware of the fact that why are open source CMS used in 98% of all website or
eCommerce site development.
Prof. Dipali Kasat commenced the session at 11:00 am by introducing eminent speaker Mr Ivan
Bayross.
The main resource person for the course Mr Ivan Bayross is a Digital Marketer,
Entrepreneur, Published Author, Trainer & Mentor. He has been a staunch open source evangelist
for the last 25 years. Silicon Chip Technologies is a multi-core company setup by him that offer
software solutions to clients in Europe, UK and USA.
During the last 30+ years he has written and published more than 68 books. Several have
been accepted as standard training material by multiple universities across India and abroad. He is
the first (only Indian Tech author) in the world, who has written and published a 1500+ page book
on PHP5 and MySQL, the RDBMS that is used in 95% of all Internet based applications. His
published books list include eleven books on Oracle the RDBMS that is used in 80% of all
applications developed that are non-Internet based.
The contents covered in the session included in detail about open source Content
Management Systems - their role in website & eCommerce site development today. Ivan sir
conveyed a firm message that Digital Marketing is the today, as well as all the tomorrows, of
businesses worldwide. Businesses not leveraging the Internet are definitely losing a ton of income
and at the same time he pointed out the different job opportunities other than programming which a
Computer/IT student can grab.
Finally the session was concluded with vote of thanks by Prof. (Dr.) Pariza Kamboj. We
acknowledge and thank Sarvajanik Education Society and Sarvajanik College of Engineering &
Technology for providing the necessary infrastructure for conducting the seminar. We also thank
Dr. Vaishali Mungurwadi, Principal, SCET for her guidance and motivation in organizing the
event.
