15. Introduction of the event India is one of the most biodiverse countries of the

world. The NE part of India itself comes under the

Indo-China and Indo-Myanmar biodiversity hotspot

regions. But we are losing our indigenous faunae day

by day due to environmental as well as anthropogenic

impacts.

To aware the people about biodiversity conservation,

we have designed our current webinar.

16. Objectives The main aim of our current webinar was

• To familiarize and make people conscious about biodiversity conservation.

• To let people know about the importance of photography in terms of wildlife conservation.

16. Summary of the event Welcoming:

The National webinar begins with the state anthem of

Assam, “O Mur Apunar Desh” by Lakhsminath

Bezbarua. Dr. Gitartha Kaushik, Assistant Professor,

Zoology acted as the moderator for the webinar. The

welcome speech was given by Dr. Ranjan Kalita,

Principal, Rangapara College.

Talk by the first special guest:

The talks of the invited speakers started with

the talk by the Forest man of India, Padmashri Jadav

Payeng. He delivered his speech in Assamese on the

need of biodiversity conservation. After his talk, Dr.

Pamela Sarmah, Assistant Professor, English; acted as

an interpreter of the speech for the participants from

the overseas.

Dr. Luxmi Machahari, Assistant Professor,

Physics introduced the first speaker Mr. Debashish

Buragohain to the gathering.

Summary of the first talk:

Mr. Debashish Buragohain, who is currently

serving as a Range Forest officer in Nameri National

Park in Sonitpur district of Assam presented his talk

on the topic “Biodiversity conservation: A field level

approach”.

In his talk Mr. Buragohain highlighted the

various conservation strategies, that they are applying

in Nameri National Park. In his talk, he has explained

about various techniques like camera trapping,

identification of pug marks, GIS tagging of animals

etc.

Dr. Saswati Purkayastha, Assistant Professor,

Mathematics introduced our second speaker to the

gathering.

Summary of the second talk:

Mr. Arnob Bora, who is a hobbyist

photographer and currently offering his service to the

State Bank of India delivered the second talk on the

topic “Photography: an aspect of conservation”. In his

talk he has explained the importance of photography

for identification of species for conservation.

He highlighted various points to remember

during wildlife photography.

Student interaction:

Dr. Pamela Sharma invited the participants for

the interactive session. But due to time constraints, we

were not able to carry it on.

Speech by the Chief guest:

Dr. Jogen Chandra Kalita, HoD, Dept. of

Zoology, Gauhati University greeted us being the

chief guest for the webinar. He addressed the

gathering and thanked them all for their kind patience

throughout the session.

Speech by Second Special Guest:

Dr. Charu Saharia Nath, President, Governing

Body, Rangapara College greeted us by being the

second special guest. In her short speech, Madam

expressed her happiness to be a part of the webinar.
