The Indonesian Economy

Indonesian Business Culture

Honor and respect for the individual is the basis of Indonesian culture. Indonesians value loyalty and family. These values are translated into the business world.

It is advisable to be punctual to business appointments and present your business card to the receptionist immediately upon arrival as well as during the meeting. Business cards in English are acceptable.

During business meetings handshakes and a slight nod are customary when meeting for the first time. After the first meeting a handshake is no longer necessary and a slight bow or nod will suffice.

Men should wear suit and jacket for the first business meeting and women should wear skirts and blouses (never sleeveless) or dresses. Muslim customs of modesty should be honored.

Indonesian Work Permit Process

1 “Rencana Penggunaan Tenaga Kerja Asing (“RPTKA”) application with the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration and Recommendation Letter for visa application for working purposes

2 VITAS application by the foreign national at the Indonesian embassy or consulate abroad (for entry to Indonesia within 90 days) and IMTA application by the Indonesian sponsor

3 Within seven days of arrival, applications for KITAS, MERP and Blue Book must be made
