Abstract Trikatrayadya Lauha (TKL) is an ayurvedic preparation which is widely used in iron deficiency anemia. We carried out this work to explore the effects of TKL on lipid profile,

liver, and kidney function. TKL was administered orally to male albino rat. After 46 days of treatment period, animals were fasted for 18 hours after the last administration.

Biochemical studies were conducted to know the effect of TKL on lipid profile, liver, and

kidney function in the blood. Independent sample t-test was conducted for statistical significance tests. TKL preparation reduces triglyceride, total cholesterol, LDL, VLDL

level while HDL level remain unchanged. Lowering of triglyceride and bad cholesterol is particularly beneficial in diabetes and cardiac patients with hypertriglyridemia and

hyperlipidemia.

Clinical Evaluation of Efficacy of Kanthya Maha Kashaya

in Gadgada (Stuttering)

Megha T.*, Shreevathsa

Department of Ayurveda Siddhanta, Government Ayurvedic Medical College,

Mysore, Karnataka, India

Abstract In Charaka samhita, kanthya maha kashaya is advised for the kantha gata vyadhis and it is hita to kantha. In amarakosha, gadgada is stated as kantha gata vyadhi. Henceforth,

kanthya maha kashya which is stated as kantha hita was used in gadgada which

alleviates avarana in it by its karma. The study was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of kanthya maha kashaya on different components of va̅k vis-a-vis Gadgada (Stuttering).

The study was a randomized single blind clinical trial with pretest, follow-up and posttest

assessment. 30 patients of stuttering belonging to age group of 5–15years were assigned in a single group. Kanthya maha kashaya in sharkara kalpana form was advised for a

month twice daily after food. Different parameters of the study stuttering severity, pitch and loudness (full sample and stuttered syllable) using Stuttering Severity Index-3 (SSI-3)

scale and Pratt’s sound recorder were recorded before, follow-up and after treatment and

analyzed statistically by descriptive statistics, cross tabulation (Contingency Table Analysis), chi-square test, paired sample ‘t’ test, and repeated measure ANOVA using

SPSS for windows (version 18.0).The result of SSI-3 scale before and after treatment was

highly significant with P-value of 0.008. The P-value of pitch and loudness of whole sample was 0.000 and 0.872, respectively and 0.375 and 0.000 on stuttered syllable

(alphabet). The overall change in the SSI-3 scale was statistically significant. On the basis of the present study, it can be concluded that kanthaya maha kashaya helps in

controlling stuttering severity in children. Thus kanthya maha kashaya is a safe and

effective drug for stuttering in children.

Decoding Mythology in Charaka Samhita

Bhavana K.R.*, Shreevathsa Manjunath Department of PG Studies in Ayurveda Siddhanta, Government Ayurveda Medical College,

Mysore, Karnataka, India

Abstract Charaka Samhita is the oldest available text book on Ayurveda. It has sutras which deal

with all the aspects of health. The information is in the form of instructions, facts and also

in the form of stories. Why would a scientific book speak of stories? Stories are not page fillers but a correct interpretation of the stories would set new horizons in understanding

the concepts of Ayurveda. This article attempts to explain the mythological aspects of

Charaka Samhita.

Yoga for Human Excellence, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India

Abstract Millions of people struggle from the complications of cardio-vascular degeneration

including hypertension, chronic heart disease, stroke (cerebro-vascular accident) and

valve prolapse. Human beings can get relieved from this struggle by practicing regularly

in Kundalini yoga Acupressure 14 points exercise which is a part and parcel of Kundalini

yoga, a system designed by Swamiji Vethathiri Maharishi (Sky yoga). The main objective

of this research article is focused on a lady 38 years old who is affected by Mitral Valve shrinkage and she got relieved from this Acupressure 14 points exercise, there is no drug,

no side effect and inexpensive therapy. Acupressure is a gate way for the prevention of heart problem. There are 14 main points which can be pressed to make specific nerves

activate. Acupressure14 points exercise ensures free flow of electrical energy without any

short circuit by removing air bubbles in the nerves and helps in free flow of blood circulation there by increasing the bio-magnetism. Overall, the aim of this study is to

introduce the practice of Acupressure exercise and highlight its potential role in the maintenance of health and wellness.

Abstract Understanding the Morbid mental states of man has always been challenging since time

immemorial. Humoral, demonic, astrological and physical theories are few of the primitive theories which tried to explain the morbid mental states. Recent theories like the

genetic, psychological, behavioural and biochemical theories gave a scientific outlook for

understanding various psychiatric problems. The psychological theory considers the concepts of topography, ego defense mechanisms, and psychosexual development in

understanding morbid mental states. Similar concept of psychopathology in Ayurveda is

available which considers various psychological factors, whose impairment at various stages of life result in specific psychiatric problems.

A Study on Improving Physiological and Psychological

Personalities of the Students by Vethathiri Maharishi’s

Nine-Center Meditation using Electroencephalography

A. Raj Kumar, G. R. Valliammal* Department of Yoga for Human Excellence, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India

Abstract The Nine-center Meditation of Simplified Kundalini Yoga was formulated by Sage

Vethathiri Maharishi to improve the functions of endocrine glands. It involves the following centers: Mooladhara, Swadhistana, Manipuraga, Anahatha, Visuddhi, Agna,

Thuriya, Shakthi Kalam and Shiva Kalam. Meditation is done on all the nine centers, seven of which are endocrine glands located within the physical body and Shakthi Kalam,

Shiva Kalam are Universal field and Absolute space, respectively. Meditation commences

at Mooladhara Chakra; followed by meditation on each of other chakras and concludes when the mind merges with Absolute space. Mind is a magnetic wave with self-rotating

movement. The speed of mind is measured in terms of mental frequency. Scientists have

discovered through the use of Electro Encephalograph (EEG) that the mind works at frequencies ranging from 1–40 cycles/sec. To prove the research concept, forty four

students of two different schools pursuing 11th

standard were selected and chosen one as experimental group and another one as controlled group. The former group alone

underwent and practiced the Nine-Centre Meditation for six months. The Mind

frequencies of the students of both groups were measured by EEG test in Vethathiri Maharishi’s Kundalini Yoga research centre and their BMI (Body Mass Index), pulse

rate, blood pressure were measured by a medical officer in the centre. After six month regular practice of the Nine-Centre Meditation, the former group of students progressed

well compared to the later in the following: increase in BMI, academic marks, harmony

in relation with parents, teachers, friends and decrease in pulse rate, blood pressure and

mind frequencies. The Nine-Centre Meditation regulates and promotes the functions of

the endocrine glands and mind so that streamline and uplift physiological and

psychological functions of humans especially student community very rapidly.
