Residence Director Position Description Providence Campus

Essential Job Functions

§ Supervises daily residence hall activity

§ Acts as regular, on-call emergency contact for the

department and responds appropriately to crisis

situations

§ Maintains accurate room assignment and

occupancy information for the hall

§ Investigates and responds to questions and/or

concerns in a professional manner

§ Monitors condition of the facility reporting any

concerns to the facilities management department

for follow up

§ Adjudicates hall level student conduct cases and

coordinates efforts through the appropriate

university office

§ Leads efforts to orient students and assists in their

integration into campus life

§ Prepares and monitors area budget

§ Supervises and develops the department staff, as

necessary, facilitating professional opportunities

to improve individual capability and managing

performance against job accountabilities,

department goals and established university,

campus and department policies and procedures

§ Supervises and manages student employees to

enhance their academic and professional

development

§ Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

§ Minimum of a bachelor's degree

§ Experience working in student affairs, residential

life, or in other related work

Preferred Qualifications

§ Two or more years of experience working in a

residence hall setting

§ Experience working as a residence director or

assistant residence director

Additional Requirements

§ This position requires on-campus living in

university-provided housing

§ This position requires working some nights and

weekends, including serving on the 24 hour on-

call rotation

Manages student residence hall(s) overseeing daily operations and

facilitating social and educational opportunities supporting personal growth for residents.

This position requires on-campus living in university-provided housing.

JWU operates thirteen housing options, each building providing students with something uniquely different to meet the needs of every resident.

Centennial House is a new, cooperative housing option focused on self-governance and community service. Students will work together to manage their own close-knit community and share a common interest in community service, completing one major community service project each term

East Hall houses approximately 240 Culinary Arts students and features quad rooms, and common bathrooms.

Harborside Village* features fully furnished, 4 bedroom apartment units and houses approximately 575 junior and senior residents.

Harbor View* is open primarily to sophomores and a limited number of first-year students. This community is comprised of mostly triples with limited quads, all which feature private bathrooms and air conditioning. Harbor View is home to approximately 370 residents and one of the universities cafeterias.

Imperial Hall houses approximately 120 sophomore students in singles, doubles, triples and quad.

McNulty Hall* houses approximately 500 residents of all majors on the downcity campus. You can find doubles, triples and quads in this hall, all which are equip with private bathrooms and air conditioning.

Renaissance Hall* is only minutes away from historic Federal Hill and houses approximately 320 residents in four-person, suite-style apartment units, complete with a private bathroom and kitchen.

Snowden Hall* houses approximately 490 upperclassmen in doubles, triples and quads in 6-person suites. You’ll find private bathrooms, air conditioning and on-site dining at this downtown hall.

South Hall is a first-year Culinary Arts community, which house approximately 420 residents on the Harborside Campus. Residents live in triples and quads and share common bathroom facilities.

The Cove* is home to upperclassmen residing in 2, 3 and 4-person fully furnished apartments. Residents enjoy top end amenities including gourmet kitchens complete with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops.

Washington Apartments houses approximately 10 juniors and seniors who reside in co-ed apartments which feature a shared bedroom, private bathroom and eat-in kitchen.

West Hall is open to first-year Culinary Arts students. Approximately 170 residents live in triples and share common bathrooms.

Xavier Hall houses primarily first-year students in double, triples and quads with a handful of singles available to sophomores. Approximately 240 reside in this hall, which features common bathrooms.

*A limited number of gender-neutral rooms are available at this location

Residential Life Residential Life strives to provide students with a shared home that is safe, dynamic and promotes academic and personal development in a shared living environment.
