PULSE DIAGNOSIS Chang’s Pulse Diagnosis System

Finger Positions Pulse Taking Techniques Organs (Cun, Guan, Chi, 8 Extra Meridians) 3 factors that make up a pulse

1. JUMP (strength, weak or strong) 2. SHAPE (straight –thin/thick; convex,

concave) 3. LEVEL (superficial, deep) PULSE COMBINATIONS AND CLINICAL

APPLICATIONS

Finger Positions ARE WRONG..

THERE IS A REASON THAT 99.9% PEOPLE DON’T BELIEVE IN

PULSE DIAGNOSIS…

HIGH BONE

Page 5: RESPIRATORY & CARDIOVASCULAR DISORDERS

Position Diff

Traditional TCM pulse dx, Guan position is right over the HIGH BONE.

For Jimmy’s system, Cun position is distal to the HIGH BONE. So the HIGH BONE is in between the index (cun) and middle (guan) positions. So shift ½ a finger proximal from how you take pulses traditionally, you will find the right positions for Chang’s pulse dx. © Lotus Institute of Integrative Medicine, PO Box 92493, City of Industry, CA 91715 5

PULSE TAKING TECHNIQUES

5. Start gentle, don’t press too

hard in the beginning. If your nails are TURNING WHITE, you are pressing too hard.

POSITIONS / ORGANS

Right Hand Cun: Lung /LI Guan: Spleen/Stomach

Yangming=dryness; taiyin=damp=deep pulse Deep=damp, bump=st fire

Chi: Kidney / BL(Urinary function); Chi and proximal pulse=Neck and shoulder prob (convex=soft tissue injury, straight/wiry=disc or spur, scattered=past injury/trauma, bl stasis; pen tip=kidney stone)

Left Hand Cun: Heart/SI Guan: Liver/GB Chi: Kidney (Reproductive function, libido, sexual functions,

ob/gyn disorders,) Chi and proximal pulse= Low back and legs pain (convex=soft tissue injury, straight/wiry=disc or spur, scattered=past injury/trauma, bl stasis; pen tip=kidney stone)

Elotus.org Question: how to differentiate zang and fu on each position. So right cun, how can you tell Lu from LI problem?

Page 18: RESPIRATORY & CARDIOVASCULAR DISORDERS

Left Hand Cun: Heart/SI (SI=taiyang=big and long,

convex=gas, bloating; HT=angina=pulse within a pulse- very tight string of wiry pulse, like a band of wires; weak=memory loss, forgetfulness)

Guan: Liver/GB (Liver-Emotional center/ forceful convex=liver fire, stress, concave= fatty liver, anxiety, depression; weak=exhaustion, no energy; GB-Constriction/gallstone=pentip pulse)

Chi: Kidney (Reproductive function); Low back and legs; (guitar string tight pulse=scar tissue, cysts, adhesions; prolapse, bone spur, herniated disc; convex forceful=back pain from soft tissue injury, etc)

Criteria of a Pulse Level

Significance of Level Normally, cun is the most superficial, guan in the mid

level, and chi is the deepest. This is referred to as the hook pulse.

Reverse hook pulse is where the chi is superficial and the cun is deep

Evaluating the relative level gives you an idea of which organ is out of balance.
