THE EXPENDABLESLIKE ACTIONMAN CAME TO LIFE,

WE SENT OUR TRANSAT-

LANTIC REPORTER OUT

WITH A PINK FLUFFY PEN TO

JOT DOWN THE RANTS OF

THE MERCENARY CAST AT

COMIC-CON 2010 IN SAN

DIEGO USA.

WHERE ELSE WOULD you find

a wide selection of trained killers

and highly acclaimed actors. The

answer is naturally in the cast of

THE EXPENDABLES...

An epic troupe of veteran silver

screen soldiers make the cast. Syl-

vester Stallone, Randy Couture,

Steve Austin and Terry Crews star

as part of the legendary casting

for the movie. We caught up with

them at the Expendables press

conference.

We spoke to “Stone Cold” Steve

Austin who played Paine, ex-CIA

agent James Munroe’s henchman

in the movie.

Revolution: There are alot of

muscle in the cast, who would

you say was the most dangerous?

Steve Austin: “Thats an easy one,

Randy Couture! I’m seen as a

tough guy on T.V but Randy’s the

real tough guy for sure.”

Revolution: Wow, Terry Crews

(Hale Caesar, Weapons Specialist)

destroys a corridor of men with

the AA-12 shotgun. Is he really

that crazy?

Steve Austin: “No...Terry is char-

ismatic, he’s a really funny guy

and at the same time he’s a very

kind guy too”

Revolution: What did you guys

do with your free time whilst

filming?

Steve Austin: “While we were

in Brazil I would go down to

the gym in the morning and Sly

would be there. Ocassionaly I

would see some of the other guys

there too, but most of the time I

sat with Eric Roberts who played

my boss. We would relax and tell

jokes of an evening, it was great!”

We managed to squeeze in the

crowds to speak with Sly (Barney

Ross, Leader of the Expendables)

and Randy Couture (Toll Road,

Demolitions Specialist).

Revolution: Is it true that Randy

is the real tough guy from the

cast?

Sly: “Without a doubt! It’s true,

I’ve seen him lift stunt men four

or five feet of the ground eight

times in a take without even try-

ing!”

Revolution: Randy?...

Randy: “Yeah, I had a blast doing

the physical stuff. Blasting the

little stunt guys was great fun!”

“We would relax and tell

jokes of an evening, it was great!”

Revolution: Stone Cold Steve

Austin basicaly said, you could

kick his butt any day?

Randy: “I don’t konw...” (he said

laughing)

The Expendables are dispatched

to over throw the brutal dictator

General Garza (David Zayas).

A tribute to action movies of the

80’s and 90’s, The Expendables

is an action packed blockbuster...

Just what you would expect from

a film that stars a variety retro

actionmen and Rambo...

Mike

PICTURE THE SCENE. The fizzy cola is

flowing like treacle, the strobe lights are flash-

ing wildly as every infectious tune belts out of

the speakers. Girls strut their stuff in skyscrap-

er heels, hoping to impress their latest curtain-

haired crushes with some slick Macarena

moves, perfected to a tee. Sound familiar? I

could only be referring to the nostalgia of the

Nineties, a decade when the Eurovision Song

Contest was viewed as the peak of pop success

and not just a symbol of desperation.

The past it may be, just as the not-so-legend-

ary Noughtie’s, which have since passed in

a blur. Music has rapidly evolved since then;

nowadays anyone who blasts stuff from that

era is automatically labelled a saddo. And

that’s the real sad thing.

We’ve seen the growth of R’n’B and hip-hop,

indie and rock, while good, old-fashioned

cheese has taken somewhat of a back seat in

the popularity stakes. Or has it? Any metal-

head or wannabe gangster who rates their

music above anything else only needs to take a

look at the UK charts this past year: dominated

by divas, boy bands and the like. Decided

100% by the British public, this is the music

that they buy, the music that makes them tick.

Let’s look at the facts. Who is the most-talked

about artist in the world right now? Clue: she

doesn’t mind sporting the odd piece of steak

as an outfit. You got it, mad-as-a-hatter Lady

Gaga. Bonkers she may be, but that hasn’t

stopped her winning over the globe with her

cool brand of kick-ass pop.

Having topped the UK several times, she’s

living proof that us Brits are still suckers for

a slice of the stuff. Another bombshell who

has left her stamp on this country is the future

Mrs Russell Brand, Katy Perry. Her sparkly

summer smash California Gurls was as fun

and quirky as they come, even becoming a

firm favourite with the anti-Nineties brigade.

And her candy floss-scented peach of a second

album just happened to bounce in at No.1,

sending rap king Eminem packing.

Pop music is definitely making a much-needed

comeback. We’re seeing the emergence of X

Factor prodigies who have all hit top spot in

2010 - Alexandra Burke, Olly Murs, Diana

Vickers - these guys are hardly rock stars in

the making. In fact, Miss Burke’s latest effort

Start Without You wouldn’t sound out of place

at a Caribbean disco. Even festival favourites

Scouting For Girls have put a question mark

over their indie boy image with a succession

of pop-influenced releases.

Boy bands were huge in the Nineties, of

course. Back then, it was the likes of Five

and the Backstreet Boys who melted teenage

girls’ hearts with their smouldering good looks

and killer tunes, these days it’s JLS and The

Wanted, who have clocked up four number

ones between them.

We may now be living in an era where Ugg

boots are the new platforms, but nothing will

ever deter our love for Nineties-style music.

The giant has been sleeping for many a year

but now it’s burst back into life, there’s no

doubt it’s here to stay.

Welcome back pop, oh how we have missed

you!
