May 2010 Rick Schiller will be the featured speaker at The Chamber’s First Friday lunch on Friday, May 7, 2010 at noon, Crown Colony Country Club. Rick will announce the Arts Alliance’s new 2010-11 Season. Rick Schiller is starting his sixth year as Executive Director of the Angelina Arts Alliance. In this position, he programs three live performing arts series for East Texas audiences at the Temple Theatre on the Angelina College campus. They are: a yearly Premier Series of professional music, dance, and theatre events, a Schoolt- ime Series for area students and their teachers, and a Family Matinee Series, especially designed for families to enjoy together. In addition, Rick oversees the Arts Alliance’s popular Camp CenterStage program, now planning its eight sum- mer of theatre training for students entering Grades 5-10. The camp includes morn- ing sessions for children entering Grades 1-4. All Temple Theatre performances – and Camp CenterStage – are produced in partnership with Angelina College. Rick Schiller received his undergraduate degree in theatre from the University of Michigan and his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Houston. His career has embraced the two worlds of theatre and advertising. He has staged more than 85 live productions as artistic/managing director of theatres in Austin, Chat- tanooga, Louisville, Midland (TX), and Lynchburg (VA). For nineteen years, he served as head of broadcast production for several national advertising agencies in the U.S. and Canada, where he produced/directed more than 600 tv commercials. He moved to Lufkin – from Austin – in January, 2005. In early 1996, Angelina College announced plans to build a multi-million dol- lar fine arts center with a state-of-the-art theatre. The concept for the Angelina Arts Alliance was born later that year; however the organization did not begin to take shape until 1999, when a core group of individu- als began planning in earnest. A Board of Directors was appointed in 2000. Its first season began in Sep- tember, 2001 with a concert/performance by Marvin Hamlisch. The mission of the Arts Alliance has always been to enrich the lives of the families in East Texas through the performing arts. By the end of its 2008-09 season, the Arts Alliance had presented 55 major events, with artists traveling to Lufkin from throughout the U.S., as well as China, Russia, Canada, Hungary, and Ireland. The Arts Alliance is supported by its season subscribers and ticket-buyers, corporate/business/ individual sponsors, foundations, personal dona- tions, and advertisers. All realize the value the Arts Alliance brings to the quality of life in the community. The organization continually looks for ways to extend its offerings and expand its reach, so that it can represent and offer services to all of East Texas. Ann Hampton Callaway; Velvety Vocals with Passionate DeliveryWhen it comes to sheer vocal beauty, nobody

matches Ann Hampton Callaway. This multi-plati-num and award-winning recording artist, comes to the Temple Theater in Lufkin Thursday, May 13th at 7:30 pm. Tickets ($22-$30) are available at The Temple Theater box office, open weekdays noon-5:30, or purchase by phone at 936-633-5454. Ann Hampton Callaway is sponsored by Angelina Ra-diation Oncology Associates. Season Sponsors are Temple-Inland and Lufkin Industries, Inc.

The far-reaching talents of Ann Hampton Calla-way are multi-faceted. As a champion of the great American Songbook she has made her mark as a singer, pianist, composer, lyricist, arranger, actress, educator, TV host, and producer. Her songs are featured on five of Barbra Streisand’s recent CD’s…did I hear someone say Streisand? And her vocals are being compared to the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn. Ann’s live performances show-case her warmth, spontaneous wit, and passionate delivery of standards, jazz classics, and originals. She is one of America’s most gifted improvisers, taking words and phrases from her audience and creating songs on the spot, whether alone at the piano or with a symphony orchestra.

Beyond her musical credits, she made her fea-ture film debut opposite Angelina Jolie and Matt Damon in the Robert DeNiro film “The Good Shep-herd” performing the standard “Come Rain or Come Shine”. She also recorded two songs for the film “Last Holiday” starring Queen Latifa. With her mission to keep the American Songbook thriving, she has produced and hosted two TV specials with guests Liza Minnelli and Christine Ebersole which will lead up to her PBS series “Singer’s Spotlight With Ann Hampton Callaway”.

Ann, known as the lady with the effervescent personality and fabulous vocals, brings her trio for an exclusive one-night performance to the Temple Theater in Lufkin, Thursday, May 13th. If you love pop, standards, and Broadway, you’ll love the emo-tionally-charged vocal performance of Ann Hamp-ton Callaway.

Ann Hampton Callaway is presented by An-gelina Arts Alliance. Tickets on sale at the Temple Theater box office. Call early for the best seat selection – 936-633-5454. For more information, visit www.angelinaarts.org or follow us on Facebook.
