2015, 16 CSCI-1380 Distributed Computer Systems (Co-taught with Prof. ¿omas Doeppner).¿is is an undergraduate in distributed computer systems, exploring the fundamentalprinciples and practice underlying networked information systems. It covers basic dis-tributed computing mechanisms, such as naming, replication, security, and then dis-cusses how these mechanisms t together to realize distributed databases, le systems,web-based, and mobile information systems.

2009,10,11,13,14,17,18 CSCI 2950-u Special Topics on Networking and Distributed Systems.¿is class is a graduate seminar structured to expose students to a selection of currentresearch topics in networking, distributed, and operating systems. ¿ere are two majorcomponents: reading and discussion of research papers, and a semester-long researchproject. Topics include, to various extents, large-scale internet system architectures, p2p,consistency versus availability tradeos; datacenter system architectures such as GFSandMap Reduce; datacenter networking architectures; troubleshooting distributed sys-tems; the browser and mobile clients as new execution platforms; and energy as a limit-ing resource. ¿emain goal for this class is to prepare students to do research in systemsand networking. At the end of the semester a student should have a good idea of some ofthe current research challenges in these areas, be comfortable with reading the systemsresearch literature critically, and be able to conduct, evaluate, and write about their ownresearch project in systems.
