GODPARENTS/SPONSORS Have you been asked to be a GODPARENT? Have you been asked to SPONSOR someone ready to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, or for an adult in the RCIA program?

It is an honor and a privilege to be asked. You are seen as someone that a family, child, teenager, or adult looks up to as living a strong, Christian Catholic faith. You model that behavior in the way that you live your life.

To receive a sponsorship form signed and sealed by the Pastor, please keep the following in mind:

I am age 16 or older. I am registered in the parish.

If married, the marriage is recognized by the Catholic Church. I attend Mass on a regular basis.

I contribute to the support of the Church, as best I can. (Attendance is taken by the envelopes in the collection basket).

I receive Sacraments according to the Laws of the Church, and I fulfill the requirements listed above.

The Church takes very seriously the role of being a sponsor. Choosing a sponsor would be based on the person’s dedication to the faith and regular practice thereof.

Sponsor letters will not be given to individuals who do not meet these criteria.

Dear Friends in Christ,

Greetings of Peace and Joy!

The book “A Tale of Two Cities” opens with the words, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. The year 1990 was not that year. But that year was significant for me. I was ordained a priest July 7th, 28 years ago.

How time flies! And to say the least, I love every moment of it. It was not a smooth ride. There were times when it was rough and tough. There were days of pain and disappointment. There were instances of struggles and questionings. There were nights of loneliness and doubts.

It is never easy being a priest, just as it is not easy being married, just as it is not easy being a religious sister or brother. It is not easy being called to serve God. It is never easy to be a part of the sacrifice. On the altar of sacrifice, where we play different parts and roles, there has to be a lot of parting and letting go.

But, if priests could truly open up their hearts and tell you about their priesthood, they would speak of you, God’s people. We, priests, are eyewitnesses to wonderful and awesome things that do not get officially recorded—the joy of sanctifying the union of couples in love, the happiness of baptizing babies, anointing patients, administering communion, hearing confession, and celebrating masses. They are joys beyond description. They are memories that will continually help me, as I walk this life’s journey.

I thank you for your continued support and encouragement. Please forgive me if I have aggrieved or hurt you. I thank you for understanding my weaknesses and my South Philly (south of the Philippines) accent. And I trust that you constantly challenge me to be holy.

The book, “A Tale of Two Cities” ended with the words, “It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go than I have ever known.”

I say the same with the Sacrament of the Priesthood, which I am exceedingly grateful to God for choosing me as his unworthy priest. Indeed, it is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done.

Love you all,

Fr. PJ :)

Here’s One Posive Encouragement

Don’t you feel great today? You spent time last night or this morning to prepare for mass. You arrived early and were in the ZONE. You left the outside world OUTSIDE. You were receptive, gave thanks and praise and meant it. Now go in peace and glorify the Lord!

Mini Meditation Holy Communion

“Holy Communion is really a meeting between two persons. It is to allow oneself to be penetrated by the life of the One who is Lord, Creator and Redeemer. the purpose of this communion is the assimilation of my life with His, my transformation with the One who is living love. Communion implies adoration and the will to follow Christ.”

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI

MISSION APPEAL (Weekend of July 14-15, 2018) Reverend Francis Obu-Mends, CSSp, will visit St. Jerome Church to speak at the Masses about the missionary work of the Church and in parcular that of the Spiritans (Congregaon of the Holy Spirit, previously known as the Holy Ghost Fathers). Fr. Francis is a missionary priest from Ghana. He presently is compleng graduate level studies in New York.

Reverend Daniel Sormani, CSSp, will visit St. Mary’s Church. Father Dan is a missionary in the Philippines, where he has led efforts to raise funds for the construcon of a new Formaon House for Spiritan seminarians from the Philippines, Vietnam, and China.

This visit is part of a naonal program in which annually a representave of one of the missionary groups visits parishes of the Diocese to invite the parish to share in the mission work of the universal Church. The Spiritans are an internaonal community engaged in a wide range of missionary acvity in over 60 countries throughout the world. When Jesus said: “You shall witness to me in Jerusalem and in Samaria and to the ends of the earth”, He made the spread of the Gospel an essenal part of our Catholic life.

To learn more about the Spiritans, please visit their website at hp://spiritans.org.

We urge you to respond generously to Father Francis’s and Fr. Sormani’s appeal.
