“Helping is an investment of time and energy, but we call it compassion.” PSME UAE Chapter volunteer members headed to Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO-OWWA) in Dubai United Arab Emirates last July 19, 2019 to aid our kababayans under the custody of Philippine Consulate.

The latest figure from the ATN (Assistance to National), a section of the Philippine Consulate that provides assistance to Filipino OFWs who have current cases with their employer, revealed that there are more than 300 distressed OFWs now under the custody of Philippine government. Majority of them work in the households hoping their struggles will soon end.

As part of the socio-civic responsibility of the PSME UAE Chapter, PSME UAE Cares donated a one-way free plane ticket, 10 luggage bags, cellphone load cards, and other personal need items given by its members.

The program started with a talk from Ms. Jocelyn Distrajo, representative of Department of Labor and Employment – Dubai and Northern Emirates, followed by the Chairman of the Filipino Community and constant

PSME UAE CARES: OUTREACH PROGRAM FOR DISTRESSED OFWs

supporter of the Chapter Ms. Josie Conlu.

PSME UAE Chapter President Engr. Jeffrey Valero also gave a brief introduction about the chapter and delivered his inspirational talk by sharing his struggle experiences during his initial years in the UAE. He also stressed that there is always hope and we should never give up on whatever challenges or struggles that we face, that God is not giving us a problem that we cannot solve or surpass. His speech somehow gave a sigh of relief and compassion for our fellow kababayans.

The Chapter also raffled off mobile cards to lucky numbers picked from the roster. PSME Members gave some call time to some recipients who wanted

to talk to their families. Tears were shed by the group as the activity turned highly emotional knowing the grief and loneliness of the distressed OFWs who left their families supposedly for a better future.
