PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

We hit the SnoRoad Winery with the place full

of bicyclists all over the place. It was running over

with these people. We had to wait for them to get

through with their awards ceremony before we

could set up our equipment. Too bad some of them

didn't stay for our show. Our crowd was thin but the

entertainment was great. We really put on a great

musical show. I invited fourteen folk from that part

of the country and nine of them came and really

enjoyed the show and the music.

It was good to see Bob and Judy Stevens, and

Bill and Lorre Meyers. They had a long and tough

winter with health problems. Hope everyone is

going to feel better with the sunny warm weather.

Read the Umatilla County news last month for more

details.

Next was our show in Union. Mother Nature

tried to ruin the weekend but we won out. We went

ahead with the fun. Bill and Lorre Meyers and Joe

McCutcheon stayed with us. We missed Bob and

Judy Stevens and Pat Samples this year. Vicki

Hagey really pulled the two day event, Friday and

Saturday, in style. Read about the weekend in the

Union County news. You can also find out about

our 2017 Fall of Fame member in our minutes of

our annual meeting.

I want to thank TJ Huitt for all of his help

during the show. He helps me give out all the give-

a-way things. We appreciate the door prize

sponsors. Our Public Relations man, Jack Raymond

and his wife Mary Jane, helped take off the crunch

for me with the odds and ends of setting up, taking

down and running things. The FFA members came

through with all their good help and refreshments

they had. It was a job well done. Everyone came

through with their assignments and I so appreciate

the help. I extend a thank you to all. It is more fun

when everyone pitches in to help.

On a personal note on April 13th

, I attended a

talent show that I helped organize. We had 24 who

brought displays. Colleen

brought some quilts and

table runners. I brought a

couple of gut buckets to

display and a big bowl of

dried apples for people to

taste. I displayed a board of

the Hill Billy giveaways

that I give out at the fiddle

shows. It was quite a

discussion table. We had 26 musical entertainers.

Two young BMOTFA members, Jon and Joe

Morton played the fiddle and mandolin. They and

their parents joined the BMOTFA at the Union

show. They did a really good job. None of the usual

backups that play with me showed up so I talked

one of the entertainers who plays the guitar into

playing with me. Deborah Warburton was her

name. We had never played together before but it

went quite well. It was a nice evening for all 95 in

attendance.

Colleen and our daughter, Jill, went to West Jordan,

Utah Easter Sunday for the birth of our 17th great

grandchild. They named him Taysom Teneti

Christensen. The Teneti means Dennis in Mauri

language The mother's mother is from

New Zealand. It was quite an honor.

I was unable to attend the Irrigon show. I was

asked to conduct a Celebration of Life for one

of our BMOTFA members, Fred Talbott. Fred and

Saonni attended all of the local fiddle shows for

years. He was a good friend and neighbor. He shod

our nine horses for years and judged at our Junior

Rodeo for thirty years. He was a true friend to all. I

sent my PA system home with Bill Meyers. Bill,

Mark Ludwick and Kevin Hedgepeth helped Bob

Stevens with the show and PA system. I appreciate

all their help. Irrigon is always a great show.

Thank you for your support.

MORROW COUNTY

It’s April, and as usual, I have nothing to write

about.

We did go to Echo for the SnoRoad Winery

Show. We missed the annual meeting. Sorry about

that, I just wasn’t up to it.

Seems like almost

every day we get q little

rain. It makes life

miserable, but does make

the grass grow. I’m going

to have to mow the yard

but I’ll put it off as long as

I can.

I haven’t talked to

anyone for quite a while, so we hope the ill are

getting better, along with the spring weather. I

think a few warm sunny days will help everyone.

I did go back into the back country and

watched the neighbors brand calves yesterday. I

can’t help anymore, but it’s fun to be there and

watch.

Saturday was the Irrigon show. I hope

everyone had a good time. Judah Falcon sang the

National Anthem. These are the musicians who

played: Bobby Stevens, Sissy falcon, Selah Falcon,

Jerin Falcon, Ruth Hodges, Win Weston, Vickie

Hagey Jo Shay, Joan Gray, Michelle Hedgepeth,

Bill Meyers, Mark Ludwick, Sonny Morris, Charlie

Raeder, Tom Vickroy, May Hampton, Kat

Wuennecke, Daryl Wuennecke, Shawn Hughes

Julia Milleson, Joe McCutcheon, Veronica Manis.

The hymn was done by Mark Ludwick.

Enough for now.

to speak the truth.

UNION COUNTY

Hello members,

I have a question for you, by the time you get

this will winter be over yet?

Union County had their first show on April

8. If you didn't show up you missed it. Gosh, I

really wanted to see you. April 7th we started off

with a finger food table that was loaded, 37 showed

up to eat. Thank you to all who brought a dish, we

so enjoy eating. The following are the ones who

showed up to play and

what a time we had...

Kent and Carolyn Craig,

Les and Evelene Haynes,

Julia Milleson, Carl

Stinnett, Ron Phillips,

Alyn and Jody

Domschot, Joe and Jon

Morton, Melody Huitt,

Diana Davrainville,

Cindy Frick, Sherry Cadwell, Vickie Hagey, Denny

Langford, Kevin and Michelle Hedgepeth, Bill

Meyers, Larry Cannon, Teri and Lee Stoltz, Bill

West, Joe McCutcheon, Veronica Manis.

For Saturday April 8, I had warned people to bring

extra blankets, that it was going to snow. No

surprise then on that. Saturday started out with 40

people showing up for our breakfast that Island City

Market put on for us and they did a great set up with

all their food. The annual meeting took place

at 10:00am and you can read about that in Denny’s

share. At 1:00pm, of course we ate again at the

feeding station that took place. Wow! I think I went

over board at that one. Thank you all who brought

potluck, I know I enjoyed it Cleaned up, pushed the

tables back and then jamming took place until our

gracious sponsors, Union FFA students, set up for

the evening public show. This group of students

had an awesome set -up for snacks and I know we

all appreciated them. Thank you Union FFA. The

show began at 6:15pm, hmm, why so late? Anyway

we had 25 players and they are as follows: Starting

with Jack Raymond leading us with the

Pledge. Vickie Hagey, Justin Williams, Brianna

Huitt, Joan Gray, Mark Ludwick, Les and Evelene

Haynes, Bill West, Joe Morton, Jon Morton, Anna

Cavinato, Melody Huitt, Denny Langford, Larry

Cannon, Sherry Cadwell, Jo Shay, Diana

Davrainville, Alyn and Jody Domschot, Ruth

Hodge, Bill Meyers, Tom Vickroy, Cindy Frick,

Julia Milleson, Joe McCutcheon, Veronica Manis,

Teri and Lee Stoltz.

I can't tell you how much fun I have and I try to

enjoy each of you. If I don't come tell me so I can

get to know you. I appreciate all these players who

have a place in their hearts for Old Time

Music. Bless you all until next time.

April Showers bring May flowers? If that's the

case, we should have lots and lots of flowers this

month! We have had a beautiful sunny day here

and there where I've been able to get some things

done outside. My tomatoes are a foot tall (in the

greenhouse, of course), and some have blooms!

Thinking positively, the rainy and snowy days do

leave lots of time to stay inside play music!

This year's Hootenanny & Shoo-Fly Pie Social,

celebrating the music of Dolly Parton, will be held

on May 21st, from 4 to 6:30 PM, at the Odd Fellows

Hall, at 105 NE 1st Street, in Enterprise. The

Hootenanny is a fun event, featuring a host of local

musicians. And…there's PIE! Each year an

impressive variety of home-baked pies are lined up

for concert-goers to sample for a mere $1 per slice,

with a chance to vote for first, second and third

place! There will be some great raffle prizes too.

Admission is $10, and don't forget to bring some

extra cash for pie!

We'll be gearing up this month for the next

Fiddle Show in Joseph at the Hurricane Creek

Grange, at 63081 Hurricane Creek Road in Joseph!

The show is on Saturday, June 10th at 6:00 PM, with

a homemade dinner prepared by the Grange ladies

available at 5:00 PM! For more information, call

me at 541-263-1637.

I'd love to see you

there!

Registration is

open for the Wallowa

Fiddle Tunes Camp.

The camp will be held

at the Wallowa School,

July 9-14. Registration

is $200; lunches are an additional $62 for the week.

You can register online, on the Wallowa Valley

Music Alliance website

http://wvmusicalliance.org/wallowa-fiddle-tunes-

the camp, instructors, and classes, please contact

camp director, Carla Arnold: 541-663-0776 (home),

or 541-786-4535 (cell).

That's it for now! Keep all those fiddles,

mandolins, banjos, guitars, and everything else

warmed up… oh yeah, and the autoharps too!

Hello everyone in good ole Eastern Oregon:

I've been setting here trying to think of

something to write about. Everything seems to be

going about the same as it has

for the last several months.

Half the Nation seems to hate

the President, and half seems

to love Him, let’s hope and

pray he is good for our

country.

Ron Phillips and I have

been going over to Burns to

their Friday night jams, with

the Oregon Oldtime Fiddlers, that is quite fun. We

attended one of their pot lucks.

We had good food and a lot of fun.

I don't know how many of you have heard of

the cigar box guitars, but they are quite

interesting. My oldest son John has started making

them. People are getting quite interested in

them. They have a good rhythm blues sound. We

all had a great time learning to play songs with him.

Back on the home front, we still play music on

Thursday nights, and would love to have any or

ALL of you to drop by and help with the music.

We were glad to see so many in Union this

weekend. I managed to keep my hands off of

everyone’s fiddles.

Grant County Director

UMATILLA COUNTY

April was a busy month of shows. First was

SnoRoad Winery. Then we went to Union for the

annual meeting and show plus lots of jamming. The

last show of April was at

Irrigon.

Denny Langford

was unable to MC the

Irrigon show so Bobby

stevens had the honor.

Kevin Hedgepeth brought

his sound system and it

all worked out fine.

There was a good

representation of over twenty musicians

A group assembled to play for Denny Evans

at his assisted living residence in Pendleton. Those

that played were Diane Davrainville, Melody Huitt,

Joan Gray and Mark Ludwick.
