Bird watching is a growing hobby, and Ohio is a great place to go bird watching. With 330 well-documented spe-cies on the Ohio bird list, Ohio provides almost endless opportunities to see great birds everywhere you go. But of the 331 species in this checklist, about 180 species nest in Ohio annually. The birds included in this list are listed as one of three things. Birds listed as rare (X), have only 11-20 confirmed records in Ohio since January 1, 2012 (all datain this checklist was compiled in fall of 2013) listed as uncommon include birds that are unusual, though not rare, in

Ohio, and may not be seen annually in the state. An example is the Golden Eagle. While not a rare visitor to Ohio, it

also may not be seen every year in the state. Birds listed as common are easily found throughout most of the state, and make up the vast majority of birds on this checklist, standing at 225 species. Introduced species are marked withan asterisk symbol (*), and spe-cies that annually breed in Ohio are boldfaced.

C— Common; Easily Found throughout

most of Ohio. U— Uncommon; May not occur annually in

Ohio, though not rare. X— Rare; 11-20 records since January 2012.
