Rotary Club of Chandigarh Midtown won the Best Club Trophy in the Rotary District 3080 for the year 2019-20. Rtn. Salil Bali was declared as the
Best President in the District at the District Awards function held at Kurukshetra on 19 July 2020, in the presence of a few club Presidents and
Secretaries of Rotary year 2019-20. Our club also received the Best Club Trophy for TB awareness projects.
Two prestigious Trophies presented to IPP Salil Bali and Rtn. Nitin Kapur by IPDG Jitendra Dhingra, DG Ramesh Bajaj, DGE Ajay Madan, DGN Naveen Gulati and DRFC Chair PDG T.K. Ruby
Congratulating all the award winners of the District, Past Rotary International President Rajendra K. Saboo, through online virtual platform, said that
Rotary is a continuous process and with each passing year, it grows stronger and through the leadership opportunity that it gives to various Rotarians, it
not only makes them heroes for that year, but better human beings for the rest of their lives.
IPDG Jitendra Dhingra highlighted the wonderful work done by the Clubs in 2019-20 including during the difficult period of last three months. He
thanked all the Rotarians of the District for their contribution and support. District Governor 2020-21 Ramesh Bajaj complimented IPDG Jitendra for
his inspiring leadership during the year, who was very well assisted by DGE Ajay Madan, as the District Secretary.

In our regular meeting on 17 July 2020, President Rtn. Sanjay Bhatia
welcomed all Rotarians for the Club Assembly.
PRIP MAT Caparas
On behalf of the Club, President Sanjay
Bhatia offered condolences on the sad
demise of Past Rotary International
President MAT Caparas and mother-in-
law of PP Rtn. T.S. Anand.
Two minutes silence was observed in
their memory.
President Sanjay requested PDG Shaju
Peter to pay homage to PRIP Caparas.
A lawyer by profession, he served as RI President in 1986-87 with
the Rotary theme, “Rotary Brings Hope”. He passed away at the age of
97 on 15 July 2020. Shaju recalled PRIP Caparas’s visit to Chandigarh
when was taken to our signature project, the Lepers Colony. PDG Shaju
shared his and Lovy’s interaction with PRIP Caparas at several Rotary
International conventions. He was the only Filipino to become RI
President. It was during the term of PRIP Caparas that the RI board
allowed membership of women in Rotary.

PRIP Caparas was also the architect of the program which is now known
as Rotary Community Corps (RCC).
President Sanjay invited all five Directors who gave detailed
presentations regarding the activities and projects during the current
Rotary year. Administrative and Project Budgets were presented by the
Treasurer which was duly approved in the Club Assembly.

Over 150 Rotarians attended online, including senior Rotarians - large number of Past District
Governors, Past Presidents and members of various clubs in the District.
DGE Ajay Madan announced that IPP Salil Bali will be Assistant Governor in 2021-22.
In his address IPP Salil Bali said that the club could do wonders because of the active
participation of all 113 members despite the lockdown since March.

Transition from Job based economy to skill based economy
Seeking prime importance given to skill
development by Rotary to Youth empowerment-
World Skill Day 2020 was celebrated on 15 July
2020.
We promoted this virtual event commemorating the World Youth Skills day 2020 and 5th anniversary of
Skill India Mission.
Director Vocational Service Rtn. Anupam Jain informed that 221 people from concerned segment attended
this event including members from Rotary. Link of video message and speech given by our Prime Minister
Sh. Narender Modi to youth was also shared in all clubs of zone 3. Links were shared through Zoom apps

Tree plantation drive to celebrate Van Mahotsav
Tree plantation drive
was done at the park

Jain’s house in Sector
28, Chandigarh.
100 Saplings were
distributed by her in
the neighborhood and
also to friends. 20
saplings of fruits and
flowers were sown
along with members
of organic sharing and
Chandigarh group.
Total 80 saplings were
planted in entire week.
Yuva ko Disha
Rotary Chandigarh Midtown started Yuva ko Disha with the support of Juvenile justice Board with a vision to bring the misguided youth back into
mainstream. This project also aimed at providing free of charge legal aid to falsely implicated children of Juvenile home, Sector 25, Chandigarh.
Rtn. Dr. Vinny Sachdeva, Member of Juvenile Justice Board, Chandigarh thanked Rotary for helping needy Children and getting them justice. She
informed that on 17.07.2020 IPP Salil Bali argued an appeal against conviction of Juvenile SS (name withheld) on the virtual platform (the first ever
in high court) who was falsely implicated in a rape case.
The Hon'ble High Court after hearing the counsels acquitted him of all the charges. His release orders have been issued and he would walk free soon.
