History of District 6840
1910Rotary first came to the district before there were Rotary districts when the Rotary Club of New Or-leans (1) was organized on the 18th of August 1910. The New Orleans club was the 12th organized and celebrates the fact by meeting as 12:12 P.M. each Wednesday. The New Orleans club is the direct ancestor to at least 40 of the district’s 53 clubs. Of the other clubs, nine clubs trace their origin through Hattiesburg which was established from Meridian, MS and Richton was sponsored by Laurel, MS.
