WHAT IS A ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE?
Rotary Youth Exchange is:
• An official program of Rotary International
• Includes over 58 countries
• Involves more than 8000 students annually
• District 5550: Aprox 19 students 10 countries
• Students live with host families, learning their customs and culture
• Long term and Short term Programs

WELCOME TO ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE !
Long Term Youth Exchange Program
• Student lives in another country for one year• Time frame: Mid-August to end of June• Student attend school in host country• Overseas student will spend the same period
of time in Canada• Not a direct exchange

HOW DO I QUALIFY ? ? • Students attending high school full time• Must be 16-18 as of July 1 in the year of
departure• Flexible and willing to try new things• All applicants are selected solely on merit• Academic merit not criteria for acceptance• Students are typically leaders, and are involved
in their community and in extra-curricular activity
Involvement of Rotary
• Program administered by Rotary International at District & Local Club level
• Matching process and travel arrangements• Students supervised by Rotary Club• Arrangement of host families and counselor
by Rotary Club• Legal guardian overseas will be a Rotarian

country Follow the Rotary District rules for travel And REMEMBER the four “Ds and an S” NO DRINKING, NO DRUGS, NO DRIVING,

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST??$5,100
Round trip airfare Health and accident insurance All travel documents, such as passports and visas Rotary Youth Exchange blazer and business cards Name tag, Rotary pin & 200 business cards CD material on Canada Orientation weekend in Russell Manitoba for
applicant and one parent Students/parents are responsible for ancillary travel and tours
* Food, lodging & monthly allowance provided by host Rotary Club & families
HOW DO I APPLY OR GET MORE INFORMATION??
Obtain an information/application form from your school Guidance Counselor.
If you want more information or would like someone to talk with you and your parents there is contact name on the form.
Application for Long Term Exchange must be received by the end of September. The dates will be set by the local Rotary Club.
Interviews and selection will be done in October for exchange the following year.
WHAT WILL I DO ON MY EXCHANGE??
Live with 2 - 4 host families during the year and become a member of the family assuming duties
(Host Rotary Club screen and select your host families) Attend school full time. Learn a new language. Make new friends for life!
And get to know the area where you are living.
Gain greater understanding of your host country’s culture
Attend several Rotary Youth Exchange events throughout the year with other Rotary students from around the world
You will be an ambassador for your Country and for Rotary.
WHAT ABOUT SHORT TERM EXCHANGES??
Rotary also sponsors Short Term Youth Exchanges. These are direct exchanges. The student lives with a
foreign student in their country and the foreign student lives in Canada.
These exchanges usually take place during the summer and are for a 4 or 7 week duration in each country.
There are a few exceptions where the exchange can be up to a maximum of 3 months.
SHORT TERM EXCHANGE? You need to be between 16 and 19. Apply by Jan 1 for travel in the summer of that
year. $2,200 – $3,300 cost includes: airline tickets,
visas, Rotary YE jacket, name tag and health insurance.
Additional spending money of approx.$500.00 (depends on student) and host families will spend additional $$ by taking the visiting student to various activities and sites.
Term: 4 weeks / 7 weeks / 3 months
