4 Rotten, but Not Forgotten

FB opened his sleepy eyes when he heard Mr. Rooster crowing outside his

bedroom window.

“Cock-a-doodle-doo,” he heard the crow again. This time the morning

sun peeked inside his room. FB quickly sprang from his bed and grabbed his

favorite bunny slippers. He ran and looked at the calendar on his wall. His

heart fi lled with joy when he saw the big red star.

“Hooray, today’s the day!” the excited bear shouted. “It’s my birthday!”

He yelled loudly to the crowing rooster.

FB began to sing and bounce around the room in his brown bunny slippers.

As he slid up and down the red fuzzy carpet, he accidentally bumped Freddy

in his fi shbowl.

“Oops, sorry Freddy,” said FB as he caught the fi shbowl. The water

splashed from side to side as he slowly walked Freddy to the calendar. He

pressed his nose against the wet bowl and said, “It’s my birthday today!”

He pointed to the big red star. “And I invited all of my friends to my

party this afternoon!” he giggled.

A dizzy Freddy swam to the top of the fi shbowl and gave FB the biggest

birthday bubble ever. “Pop!” The bubble burst as it landed on his black,

round nose.

While wiping the water from his wet nose, FB remembered the one

person he did not invite.







“I did not invite Rudy!” he shouted angrily to Freddy. “Rudy is a

rotten troublemaker and doesn’t deserve to be invited!”

At that moment, sadness fi lled FB’s heart and his head hung low.

“Why do I feel sad inside?” he mumbled to Freddy, who was still a

bit dizzy from the bump.As FB stood there thinking about his sadness, he heard a silly voice

coming from the hallway.

“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you!” the voice sang as

it got closer.







FB looked up and laughed when he saw Mother Bear’s yellow apron

twirling in his doorway. Forgetting the sadness in his heart, he giggled

while watching Mother Bear sing and dance.

Mother Bear twirled her last twirl in her yellow apron, and said to

FB, “Don’t forget to remind your friends about the party this afternoon.

I have a surprise for all invited guests.”

Then she bowed.

“Yes, indeed Mother Bear! I love surprises!” he said as he applauded

her show and rushed to get dressed for school.







Before going to Catnip Academy, FB wanted to share his joy with

Oakey. He ran quickly through Glory Gardens until he found his friend.

“Whew! Good morning, Oakey!” said FB as he stopped to rest. Pooped

from his run, FB pulled off his backpack and sat against the tree

trunk.

FB looked up at Oakey with a happy heart, and asked, “Guess what

today is?” But before Oakey could answer, he blurted out, “Today’s my

birthday! And all of my friends are coming to my party this afternoon.”

He paused. His happy smile suddenly turned to a frustrated frown. FB

remembered the one person not invited. Sadness returned to his heart.
