Outstanding Corporate Citizenship Winner
Recently the Kinross LOVA winners were announced. Kinross
Round Mountain is proud of their winner, RM Gold Clinic’s Jes-
sica Kiburis, RN. Below is her nomination letter.
Genuine, caring, empathetic, and inspirational are all words
that Jessica’s colleagues use to describe her. When the Nye
Regional Medical Center located in nearby Tonopah shut its
doors and left thousands without access to medical care in
2015, Jessica, previously a nurse at that facility, knew that she
wanted to continue to serve the community surrounding the
mine. She quickly joined the team at the Round Mountain
Health Center and became an essential part of the Kinross
team.
Within the Round Mountain Health Center, Jessica is top
notch. Interacting regularly with employees, their families, com-
munity members, and medical providers, Jessica’s profession-
alism and compassion lead all that she does. Jessica is known
for truly caring for each of her patients, often calling them at
home after they have been to the clinic simply to ensure that
they are feeling well and have access to all the resources they
may need.
Jessica also actively seeks out creative ways to improve com-
munity health both with Round Mountain employees and in the
communities surrounding the mine. Jessica is an active mem-
ber of the Round Mountain Wellness Committee, leading initia-
tives such as the Great American Smokeout, visits to the site
from the Mammovan (a mobile mammogram program), coordi-
nation with external providers such as a chiropractor and thera-
pist, community flu-shot clinics, diabetes prevention, blood-
borne pathogen training, and much more. In fall of 2019, Jessi-
ca partnered with the local community health nurse (a state
funded position) to provide flu shots to employees and commu-
nity members alike at the Round Mountain General Store. Jes-
sica has a deep understanding of challenges that extreme
rural communities, such as Round Mountain, face when it
comes to healthcare, and she works to combat those at every
turn.
“Jessica is a bright spot among our clinic who believes that by
caring, she can change the world,” said RW Carver, Health &
Safety Manager, Round Mountain. “She is willing to come help
after hours, and always reaches out to make sure her patients
know she cares. Employees like Jessica truly make Round
Mountain the fantastic mine that it is.”
Also proof of Jessica’s commitment to excellence is her drive
to further her education. Jessica recently completed her Bach-
elors of Science in Nursing and has now begun her Advanced
Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) program. Both of these
educational programs are extremely competitive and rigorous,
and require a significant investment of Jessica’s time outside
of work. Somehow, though, she manages to achieve top
scores in all of her classes, maintain excellent work quality,
and raise her young family. Once Jessica completes her
APRN program, she will help fill a crucial gap that currently
exists for the local community in terms of access to quality
medical care.
Jessica is a perfect candidate for Outstanding Corporate Citi-
zenship not just because of her position as a nurse, which
implies care and compassion, but because of the extra steps
she takes every single day to ensure every patient at the
Round Mountain Health Center feels heard, cared for, and
empowered to have the resources and information required
take control of their health.
Jessica
Kiburis
I feel incredibly blessed and humbled
to be recognized by Kinross for this
award. To me Outstanding Corporate
Citizenship means treating people
the same way at work as you do at
home and I love caring for our com-
munity. The overwhelming love and
support from my coworkers and the
community has been nothing short of
astonishing. Thank you all for your
love and support. ~Jessica
