Discovered in the Columbia Basin of Washington State, this exciting new color sport of Honeycrisp is catching attention from coast to coast. Royal Red Honeycrisp® is a blush type selection and maintains the crisp, juicy texture of its parent that so many have come to love. Beyond the high color factor, initial tests indicate that it’s improved storage characteristics may be equally important in improving pack-out. As with its parent, the tree is low vigor and care should be taken not to crop it too soon.

LADY IN RED(A SPORT OF CRIPPS PINK) USPP #18,787

This high colored Cripps Pink sport was first discovered in 1996 as a chance limb mutation in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. Color formation begins well over a month before harvest and finishes off with a beautiful, nice, reddish-pink hue. Beyond the high color factor of the cultivar, Lady in Red was shown to mature approximately one week earlier than the Cripps Pink cultivar grown in the same location in New Zealand. As with standard Cripps Pink, Lady in Red may not be suitable for all growing areas due to its late harvest timing.

This exciting Gala sport starts coloring a month earlier than its parent, Imperial® Gala. Buckeye® Gala develops well through summer heat and the fruit finishes with a bright, full, rich, red color. Flavor, texture, size, and handling qualities remain the same as its renowned parent. The tree is vigorous and upright with a semi-spur habit. Buckeye® can be pollinated by other mid-season blooming varieties, except other Gala sports and Golden Delicious.

Cosmic Crisp is a cross between Enterprise and Honeycrisp. The large, juicy apple has a remarkably firm and crisp texture. Its exceptional flavor profile provides ample sweetness and tartness, making it an excellent eating apple.

Chelan Spur™ is a limb sport of Oregon Spur® II found near Chelan, WA. The variety is a very compact, spur-type selection with very uniform sized fruit. Color develops as full blush three months prior to harvest. Initial testing has shown the Chelan Spur™ to have higher pressure, higher brix and higher acid levels at harvest, with bloom timing 2-3 days earlier. Willow Drive is recommending Chelan Spur™ for testing at this time.

Ultima Gala® is a limb mutation of Imperial® Gala discovered in Wenatchee, Washington. The fruit has a very high color factor with a strong stripe. Ultima is an abundant annual producer that is also easy to grow. Generally, Galas produce a medium-sized, conical to round fruit, but with early thinning, Ultima Gala® can size well. Other fruit characteristics and tree growth are similar to Imperial® Gala.

EverCrisp, a cross of Fuji and Honeycrisp, has a sweet flavor. It’s closer to Fuji in resemblance, but shares some of Honeycrisp’s texture characteristics. The apple ripens from middle to late October.

DT2 VARIETY

This exciting new, high colored Fuji comes to us from the land down under. Discovered in New Zealand, Aztec Fuji® has the sweet juicy, crisp texture and harvest maturity of standard Fuji. Aztec Fuji® is a blush type and early observations show it to be one of, if not, the highest coloring Fuji sports seen to date.

SnowSweet®

Granny Smith is a very late-maturing, late-keeping, dual-purpose apple. Flesh is hard, crisp, and juicy, with excellent tart flavor. Fruit is grass green and shiny. In cooler climates, the fruit may develop a reddish blush. The tree is vigorous and sets crops early and heavy. Granny Smith is not recommended for areas with short growing seasons.

It® Red Delicious is a striped selection of Redchief.® The tree and fruit are very similar to Redchief ® Heinicke,® with the exception of earlier coloring and a darker red background color at maturity. The variety was discovered in 1986 in Orondo, Washington. It® Red Delicious is the one to choose if you are looking for an earlier striped alternative to the already popular Red Chief ® Heinicke.®

This upgrade of the already popular Jonagored has a solid red blush with a very fine striping. Jonagored Supra™ is less vigorous than its parent, but with high productivity. Jonagored Supra™ differentiates itself from standard Jonagored with color and ripening seven to eight days earlier. Fruit quality for storage is equal to the parent. This variety is a triploid and will need a flowering crab for cross-pollination. Jonagoreds are susceptible to fireblight and a preventative spray program is recommended for newly planted orchards.

USPP ##19,446

SnowSweet® is a recent release from the University of Minnesota. This Sharon and Connell Red cross was formerly known as MN 1797. The flavor is sweet with a slight tart overtone. The white flesh is firm and slow to oxidize when cut, making it ideal for display cutting and salads. Color characteristic is a bronze-red blush over a green-yellow background. As with many varieties bred at the University of Minnesota, SnowSweet® is quite cold hardy and has been found to meet the climatic challenges of northern apple-growing regions.

This high colored Braeburn selection was discovered in New Zealand. Even with the strong color finish, a noticeable stripe can be seen. Kumeu Crimson has the typical tart Braeburn flavor and crispness that is distinctively its own. As with other Braeburns, this selection stores and ships well. Kumeu Crimson has a normal Braeburn growth characteristic and should be treated the same.

Pink Lady® Brand MASLIN CV USPP #21,412

Maslin Pink is an early Cripps Pink mutation discovered in Western Australia. The Maslin cultivar picks 3-4 weeks ahead of standard Cripps Pink. Color and overall characteristics are similar to its parent. Multiple picks are recommended. Willow Drive Nursery is authorized to grow Pink Lady® Brand trees under growing contract only with expressed permission from Brandt’s Fruit Trees, Inc.®

Redcort® Redcort® is a solid red Cortland with a superior color factor. A Proven Performer™ with a 90% bright red finish overall, spectacular color is reached two weeks ahead of maturity. Redcort® retains all the typical Cortland characteristics.

Rising Sun® Fuji Rising Sun® is an early Fuji selection that ripens 4 to 5 weeks before standard Fuji and colors nicely with a bright pinkish-red blush. Rising Sun® maintains the sweet Fuji flavor and the great Fuji crunch. Growth habit is typical of Fuji with similar disease resistance. Testing of this variety on the East Coast shows this early Fuji to be a definite option to consider if you are looking for a Fuji for the early markets.

Ruby Jon® is not just another Jonathan. It is quite simply the finest Jonathan ever. Ruby Jon® colors to a solid red blush ten days before any other strain on the market. And Ruby Jon® offers the same creamy, white flesh and crisp, juicy eating quality of the old-fashioned Jonathan with a true Jonathan flavor. Fruit size, tree character, disease resistance and pollination are the same as Jonathan. If you want the finest Jonathan available, plant Ruby Jon.®

SpartanSpartan is a Summerland, British Columbia cross of McIntosh and Newtown with dark red skin and high dessert quality. Spartan ripens after McIntosh with firm, medium to large fruit. Trees bear early and heavy. It is a reasonably good shipper.

Zestar!® USPP #11,367

Zestar!® is an early season apple with good size and above average sweet/tart flavor. Color is 60-85% red on a yellow background. Zestar!® has above average storage life for its season.

Ambrosia® USPP #10,789

Ambrosia® is medium to large with a conical shape. The flavor is sweet, sub acid, and very juicy, with a pleasant aroma. Skin color is an attractive pink/red blush with faint stripes on a cream yellow background.

Cameo® Brand (CAUDLE CV.) USPP #9,068

Cameo® has a pleasing, bright red stripe over a golden blend with sweet-tart flavor. The creamy white flesh shows virtually no browning when cut. The tree has growing characteristics similar to a Golden. This precocious variety is harvested in mid-October in one to two pickings.

Chrisolyn® Jonathan USPP #21,300

Chrisolyn® is a new, red-striped Jonathan that originated in Missouri. It has a bold striped pattern over a completely red apple. Chrisolyn® ripens with other Jonathan strains and has excellent storage characteristics.

HOneyCrispIntroduced in 1991, Honeycrisp is creating quite an interest with commercial growers. The well-balanced, sub-acid flavor combined with a crisp, juicy texture make for an enjoyable eating experience. Harvest is generally in late September, about one week after Macintosh. Honeycrisp has an excellent storage life, lasting six to seven months in common storage. Bred specifically for winter hardiness, the tree is moderately vigorous with average fruit precocity.

Joburn™ Braeburn USPP #11,992

At maturity, the appearance is a heavy, red stripe on a red over cream background. Joburn™ has vigor similar to standard Braeburn, with a spreading habit. It appears to set a larger crop than Braeburn, which will require chemical thinning to prevent overcropping.

Lawspur RomeLawspur Rome fruit is large, bright red with excellent bruise resistance. A spur type tree, it provides heavier yields. Excellent flavor, texture and shipper.

LibertyLiberty has a red stripe over a yellow background color. Highly resistant to major diseases. Flesh is crisp, juicy and sprightly tasting. Needs thinning.

LindaMac®

LindaMac® is a true McIntosh that colors 80 to 100% bright red blush with no striping. LindaMac® starts coloring 5 to 6 weeks ahead of other McIntosh clones.

Morning mist™ Fuji USPP #16,270

An early maturing Fuji sport, Morning Mist™ was discovered in Brewster, WA. Its bright red finish colors better than any early Fuji we have seen to date. The flesh is creamy white with a sweet, juicy, Fuji-like flavor. Experience shows Morning Mist™ crops and sizes well, maturing five to six weeks ahead of standard Fuji.

From New Zealand we bring you the ultimate striped Gala, Brookfield® (Baigent CV). Brookfield® (Baigent CV) has consistently shown us the strongest striped color we have seen in a Gala. The apple’s early color permits proper harvest timing for best storage maturity, flavor retention, and customer satisfaction. Fruit is harvested in two picks for improved packouts. These distinctive features allow crisp, consistently colored and striped fruit to be harvested efficiently, enabling the grower to minimize costs while maintaining higher quality.

Blondee ripens just ahead of Gala but is a firmer and more flavorful piece of fruit. This new apple is an excellent choice for u-pick and retail markets because of the very long ripening period. The tree is strong, upright and easy to manage.

Using flowering crab apple trees is an efficient way to provide pollination. The time and length of bloom periods can be matched to commercial apple varieties. See chart below.

ManchurianManchurian produces white, medium-sized flowers with good shape and heavy density. It’s very heavy pollen production encourages strong bee activity. The tree is vigorous and upright and has shown some susceptibility to fireblight.

Indian SummerIndian Summer has an abundance of small, pinkish-white flowers with good shape and encourages moderate bee activity. The tree is vigorous, rangy and disease resistant.

SnowdriftSnowdrift has small, abundant, white flowers with good shape and bee attractiveness. It is very quick to dehisce and is a heavy pollen producer. It is a small, sturdy, upright tree. Bloom period is short.

Mt. Evereste™ PERPETUE CV

Mt. Evereste™ was brought into the U.S. from the French breeding station, INRA. The tree has a very healthy appearance with attractive green leaves and bright red, heavy clusters of apples. Its attractive appearance may come from the fact that one of its parents was an ornamental crab. High flower intensity makes Mt. Evereste™ a good pollinizer for early season fruit varieties. Mt. Evereste™ is resistant to scab, mildew and fireblight.

Mt. Blanc™ USPP#16,939

Mt. Blanc™ is best suited for mid season pollination. It exhibits high flower intensity. Like Mt. Evereste™, this selection was also bred at the French breeding station, INRA. It is a cross of Liberty and White Angel. Mt. Blanc™ is resistant to scab and fireblight and is a healthy grower.

This M9-337-size root is very productive, showing higher yield efficiencies than many commercial roots, including M9 trials. Suckering is light and susceptibility to woolly apple aphid is moderate. It is recommended for testing at this time.

GENEVA® ‘G.41’ USPP #17,139

Formally tested as CG 3041, this recent release from Cornell University’s rootstock program is creating a strong interest with growers. It is fireblight-resistant and produces a tree similar to M9 with better productivity. Branch angles tend to be naturally flatter and the selection is very winter hardy. It has shown superior performance in every New York trial. Availability is very limited at this time.

GENEVA® ‘G.202’

This EMLA 26 size root is not only resistant to fireblight but also has high resistance to wooly apple aphid. Extensive data has been collected in NY and New Zealand. Initial observations show it to be similar in tree size with EMLA 26. It is recommended for testing at this time.

GENEVA® ‘G.935’ USPP #17,063

Released in 2005, this fireblight-resistant rootstock is about the size of EMLA 26 but with the productivity of an M9. It appears to have good graft union strength but given its heavy cropping, tree support is recommended. Data shows this rootstock to be the best semi-dwarf rootstock in the New York trials. Availability is very limited at this time.

GENEVA 890 GENEVA G.890 USPP #23,327

A new release from Cornell University, this rootstock is similar in size to EMLA 7. It is replant disease tolerant and highly resistant to wooly apple aphid. It makes an excellent replacement for G.30. Availability is very limited at this time.

Budagovsky 9 BUD 9

This dwarfing, M9-size rootstock is very resistant to collar rot and moderately resistant to powdery mildew and scab. Superior winter hardiness has increased grower awareness; support is required.

M9-337Ideal for high-density plantings. Performs similar to EMLA 9, cropping early with large fruit size. Best production occurs on fertile, well drained soils with consistent moisture. Brittle roots and poor anchorage necessitates tree support.

M9-NIC 29™ USPP#10,714

This dwarfing rootstock of Belgian origin produces a tree slightly more vigorous than M9-337. The root system is more expansive and fibrous than the M9-337. Tree support is required.

EMLA 26EMLA 26 provides better anchorage than M9; however, it is still shallow-rooted and subject to drought stress. It is more precocious than EMLA 7, but tends to be less vigorous. Moderately susceptible to crown rot and susceptible to fireblight. Support is recommended.

EMLA 106EMLA 106 is an excellent choice for spur-type Red Delicious varieties. It has heavy cropping potential with moderate vigor. It does well in a wide range of temperatures and has good anchorage. It is resistant to woolly apple aphid, but very susceptible to collar rot.

Budagovsky 118 BUD 118

A Russian-bred rootstock that produces a tree slightly larger than EMLA 111 with precocity that exceeds EMLA 106. Bud 118 is slightly susceptible to powdery mildew and crown gall. Budagovsky 118 is recommended on dry, sandy soils, replant sites and for low temperature climates.

Early Robin® is a Rainier-type cherry maturing 7-10 days before standard Rainier. The mild flavored cherry is medium to large in size and requires a pollinizer. Other distinct characteristics include a semi-freestone pit and a heart-shaped appearance. Van should not be used for cross-pollination. Early Robin® has shown some susceptibility to winter and frost damage as well as bacterial canker.

Developed in Summerland, BC, this sweet cherry is a cross between Van and Newstar. Sweetheart is a large, bright red cherry that matures one week after Lapins. Its vigorous growth requires pruning to reduce over-cropping. It is a self-fertile variety that bears annually.

This Prosser–WSU bred cherry blooms ahead of Bing, but provides sufficient pollinization. Chelan™ fruit ripens ten to twelve days ahead of Bing with firm, round, heart-shaped fruit of good size. The tree is upright and vigorous. Chelan™ requires a pollinizer. .

This large, black cherry from the Summerland Research Station in British Columbia matures about 8 days ahead of Bing. The fruit is firm with a highly attractive luster to the skin. Santina™ is self-fertile and appears to be moderately tolerant to rain cracking.

A large, early mid-season cherry that ripens 1-3 days before Bing. Fruit is moderately firm with good flavor and 21% sugar. EbonyPearl® has excellent crack resistance, averaging just 4% cracking with one inch of rain in 2008.

A large, early black-red with above average firmness and superior quality. BurgundyPearl® averages 12g with 22% sugar and is firm and crunchy. BurgundyPearl® ripens 3-5 days before Bing and has a long ripening period. This variety is resistant to canker and shows a low percentage of cracking.

(PC 7144-6 CV) USPP #11,385

Bred in 1971, this Stella/Early Burlat cross is gaining strong recognition for its large fruit size. Bloom time is similar to Bing, with fruit maturity being approximately seven days earlier. Tieton® has excellent firmness, a mild flavor and a tolerance to splitting similar to Bing.

USPP #11,392

Commercially introduced in 1997, Skeena™ is a very attractive round cherry with dark red to black color. This large, firm sweet cherry has good tolerance to splitting and is self-fertile. The tree is very productive, spreading and precocious.

Lapins is a Van and Stella cross that matures two weeks after Bing. Fruit is large, highly split resistant, and mahogany-red color at maturity. Growth is upright and the variety is an excellent pollinizer.

Benton® is a medium-to-large, self-fertile, dark red cherry that ripens close to Bing time. Consumer taste tests indicate a superior flavor and quality over all mid-season cherries. This Prosser-WSU developed cherry blooms slightly later than Bing, but is a light cropper.

Rainier is a very attractive yellow cherry with a red blush. It has a distinct and superior flavor to most varieties. Flesh is very firm and finely textured. Tree is hardy and bears early with good bud hardiness.

This Lapins mutation was discovered in Creston, British Columbia. Kootenay™ matures at Sweetheart timing, but more closely resembles the Lapins fruit. The fruit is dark red with red flesh and is self-fertile. Willow Drive Nursery recommends Kootenay™ for testing at this time.

Regina™ (YORK 57/201CV) USPP #11,530

Regina™ is a new variety from Germany that has large, firm fruit and an exceptional tolerance to splitting. Regina™ has a late bloom time and matures approximately 16 days after Bing.

RynbrandtResembles Schmidt in appearance and flavor, maturing 10 days before Bing. Fruit is of high quality, with rich color, a shiny finish, and medium to large size. Picks easily, resists cracking and has good holding qualities. Rynbrandt is a shy bearer and is recommended with Gisela rootstock.

Sandra Rose™

This Van type, while not so blocky, is dark red, round and slightly compressed. It appears to have good tolerance to splitting, is large in size and matures three days after Bing. Sandra Rose™ is self-fertile.

SchmidtSchmidt typically has large, black, firm fleshed fruit that ships well. With moderate crops, this variety has good crack resistance and is desired for both the fresh market and canned market.

Sumleta is large and kidney shaped. Black fruit is firm, juicy, and moderately sweet. The tree is self-fertile and ripens 7 days after Bing.

UlsterUlster’s dark flesh and quality are the signature of this Schmidt/Lambert cross. It is quite productive and ripens soon after Schmidt. Very resistant to cracking.

VanProduces medium-size fruit that resembles Bing. An excellent pollinizer, Van requires cross pollination. The tree is vigorous, hardy and heavy bearing.

WhiteGold® USPP #18,892

A beautiful, large, sweet cherry with a shiny red blush over yellow skin. It has firm, clear yellow flesh and is extremely hardy. WhiteGold® is completely self fertile and ripens and blooms with Emperor Francis. It is a reliable pollinator for other mid-season cherries.

Attika® KORDIA

This is a late blooming cherry from The Czech Republic. It is a large, dark cherry with dark flesh. Attika® is a good quality fruit for the fresh market. Fruit is firm and has a long stem.

Balaton®

A Hungarian tart cherry that matures 5–7 days after Montmorency. Tests show Balaton® to be firmer than Montmorency and more vigorous. Montmorency is a recommended pollinizer.

Bing This cherry is firm, juicy and a deep dark red color when ripe. Fruit is large and of the finest quality. Will not pollinize Lambert, Royal Ann, or Emperor Francis.

Santina™

Gisela® 5Gisela® 5 makes a dwarf, very precocious and productive tree. It suckers very little and has better tolerance to virus infection than Mazzard or Mahaleb. Support is recommended because anchorage is moderate. It is very hardy and has shown no variety incompatibilities. It does well in heavy soil and adapts to all soil types.

Gisela® 6Gisela ® 6 semi-dwarfing rootstock produces a tree 65-95% the size of Mazzard and stimulates very early blooming and heavy bearing. It has a wide range of soil adaptability and actually likes heavy soils. It has good resistance to bacterial canker and a tolerance to viruses equal to that of Mazzard or Mahaleb. It requires support for its heavy crop loads and a management system that promotes new shoot growth to balance its early, heavy bearing. It has shown no variety incompatibilities.

Gisela® 12Gisela® 12 is a precocious, semi-dwarfing rootstock. The tree structure is open, spreading and stocky. Gisela® 12 has wide soil adaptability and does well on heavy soils. This stock is very precocious and productive. It has good virus resistance and no suckering problems. Gisela® 12 is well-anchored, but support is recommended.

MazzardMazzard seedling rootstock produces a vigorous tree with very good anchorage and few root suckers. It is most compatible with sweet cherries. It tends to resist common cherry diseases better than Mahaleb. It has some tolerance to phytophthora and is moderately resistant to oak root fungus. It grows best on sandy loam soil, but is also tolerant of heavy soils. It is susceptible to crown gall and bacterial canker, but it is resistant to water stress and root knot nematodes.

MahalebMahaleb seedling rootstock comes in more of a bush form than Mazzard. It produces a standard-size cherry tree. It is cold hardy, drought tolerant and highly productive. Its anchorage is excellent. It is susceptible to oak root fungus, root knot, and especially phytophthora. It is somewhat resistant to crown gall and resistant to bacterial canker and root lesion. It grows best in light, sandy soils. It does poorly in heavy soils.

MxM® 60Developed in Oregon, this clonal rootstock is a natural hybrid of Mazzard and Mahaleb. It shows a wide range of soil compatibility and is used as an understock for both sweet and sour cherries. MxM® 60 has moderate resistance to phytophthora and crown gall and expresses some tolerance to bacterial canker. The root is more productive than Mazzard and research shows little to no suckering. Hardiness is similar to Mahaleb and vigor is slightly greater than Mazzard.

Bartlett ForelleAn outstanding selection widely planted around the world known for its versatile use both as a fresh market and a processing pear. It is a large, attractive, golden-yellow fruit which may have a slight blush. The flesh is tender, juicy and buttery with excellent dessert quality. Its mid-season blooming habit lends itself well as an all-around pollinizer.

Forelle is an old German variety that is firm, sweet and has excellent flavor. The fruit is medium-size and requires thinning. This is a specialty fruit that has rainbow-colored skin and can be stored into spring. The tree is large and susceptible to fireblight.

A dark maroon sport of D’Anjou first discovered on the Eugene Euwer orchard near Hood River, Oregon. This white-fleshed pear has the same eating quality and other characteristics of its parent. The obovate-shaped pear matures in mid-September and ripens uniformly following storage. The trees are moderately vigorous and require an early-season pollinizer.

The Golden Russet® Bosc pear is a superior sport of the standard Bosc that has a fine net-like russet covering the entire surface of the fruit. As the oblong fruit matures and the ground color changes from green to yellow, the pear takes on a distinctive golden appearance. This D’Anjou season pear has excellent dessert quality. The tree is moderately vigorous, grows in an upright manner, and is a suggested pollinizer for Taylor’s Gold.

D’Anjou is the leading variety of winter pears. Fruit is firm and juicy, with a superbly rich flavor. It has excellent keeping qualities. The tree is vigorous and productive.

D’Anjou

Bosc Bosc is an excellent eating pear with soft, sweet, buttery flavor; it picks three weeks after Bartlett. Bosc is a large, long-necked pear that has an attractive yellow background with a fine russet. The tree blooms after d’Anjou and Bartlett in the Comice season and is a good pollinizer for late-blooming varieties.

Comice Comice is an excellent, large dessert pear. This mid-season maturing pear has high quality, fine-textured, juicy, sweet melting flesh. Fruit color is green, possibly a yellow blush. It has a low chilling requirement.

Concorde® USPP #9,192

This Conference/Comice cross, bred at East Malling, England, has the excellent sweet and aromatic flavor of its parents. Fruit size is medium and skin color is green with a slight blush. Some russetting under certain growing conditions. Early fruiting and high yield are characteristics of this pear. It has been described as a true “grower’s variety” with its compact growth and dark-green, healthy leaves.

Red Clapp’s FavoriteRed Clapp’s Favorite is an excellent selection of red pear that ripens before Bartlett. It is fine-grained with very white flesh and excellent flavor similar to Clapp’s. It is subject to internal breakdown if stored too long.

Red SensationRed Sensation is an Australian strain of Bartlett that shows better color stability than Max Red Bartlett. The fruit is similar in size, shape, texture, and quality compared to Bartlett, but has higher sugar content.

Seckel

Fruit is reddish-brown over yellow with russet. An excellent dessert pear with white, sweet flesh. Seckel has some resistance to fireblight.

Taylor’s Gold™ USPP #8,308

Taylor’s Gold™ is an exciting, new, russeted Comice from New Zealand. The fruit has an attractive appearance, a rich, sweet flavor and is delicately perfumed. The variety appears precocious and heavy cropping, with slightly more vigor than standard Comice. Fruit bearing is predominantly on spurs. Taylor’s Gold™ is a natural mutation of Doyenne du Comice and matures approximately three weeks after Bartlett. Planting is recommended for high-russeting orchard sites.

Old Home By Farmingdale (OHxF)

Old Home by Farmingdale (OHxF) rootstocks, is a trademark of Carlton Plants. In 1992 Willow Drive Nursery acquired the license to propagate the OHxF series of rootstocks. These rootstocks were developed by Lyle Brooks of Daybreak Nursery and Dr. Mel Westwood at Oregon State University. This superior series of rootstocks are well-anchored and compatible with most varieties. Also, they are winter hardy, precocious and quite productive.

OHxF 87OHxF 87 rootstock has proven to be the most precocious of rootstocks tested at the Mid-Columbia Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Hood River, Oregon. The excellent early production imparts some early spurring and growth control with the d’Anjou variety. This enables a grower to plant slightly closer in the row than with OHxF 97 and Bartlett seedling.

OHxF 97OHxF 97 is similar in size to Bartlett seedling and is very productive, but gives no growth control. Growers like OHxF 97 for its early fruiting, its excellent vigor (especially for red pears and other less vigorous varieties) and its good anchorage. Pear trees on OHxF 97 respond well to limb manipulation.

Malling Rootstock ProductionWillow Drive Nursery has increased its production from 100,000 rootstocks in the early years up to 4 million at present. Dwarf apple stooling bed production represents about 60% of the total and seedling production represents 40%. The rootstocks grown by Willow Drive Nursery are sold to nurseries in both the fruit and ornamental tree industries.

Willow Drive Nursery started the stooling beds with virus-free plant material and has them tested for virus regularly. Clonal apple rootstocks are grown as a one-year crop and are harvested when the plants are fully dormant. The rootstocks are harvested and stored immediately in a temperature and humidity controlled storage facility. Willow Drive Nursery uses state-of-the-art equipment in growing, harvesting and storing its clonal apple rootstock.

Rootstock Quality & CareThe rootstocks are carefully hand-graded for size and root quality and then are carefully stored in wet sawdust until shipping time. Rootstocks are shipped bareroot in heat-controlled vans or packed in wax-lined cardboard boxes.

P A T E N T & T R A D E M A R K R I G H T S U.S. plant patent laws prohibit the propagation of patented plant materials for personal use, offering for sale or selling the plant so reproduced or any of its parts, including the fruit, throughout the United States or from importing the plant so reproduced or any part there of, into the United States. The life of the patent is 20 years. Permission must be obtained in writing from Willow Drive Nursery prior to top working or propagating our patented varieties. The use of Willow Drive Nursery’s trademarks without authorization is prohibited.

S C I O N W O O D A N D F R U I T C O L O R Whenever possible, our scionwood is carefully selected from mature bearing trees. In spite of this effort, it is the nature of some varieties to be unstable in developing fruit color at harvest time. Environment and growing practices can also affect the color formation. Because of this, we cannot accept responsibility for the fruit color, type, tree structure or other varietal defects.

Whenever possible Willow Drive uses virus free scionwood for propagation. However, not all varieties are available virus free. Please contact your Willow Drive representative if you have any questions.

T W O - Y E A R B U D D E D T R E E S Willow Drive Nursery fills commercial orders with trees grown in place for two years (that is two-year-old rootstocks and one-year-old tops). This type of tree offers the commercial orchardist a distinct advantage over one-year-old grafted trees. For almost the same money, the two-year-old budded tree with a larger and more fibrous root system survives much better in transplanting, gets off to a quicker start, matures faster and produces sooner.

R E P L A C E M E N T P O L I C Y Willow Drive Nursery warrants the trees to be true-to-name, alive, and in good condition. If trees arrive damaged, or they do not appear to start properly, please call us at once. We may be able to help you with the problem! It takes both you and us to successfully transfer the dormant trees through the transplanting process. If the trees fail to grow within the first growing season with proper care on your part and replacements are needed, Willow Drive will replace the trees at no cost.

Willow Drive Nursery will not be responsible for tree losses when the grower stores nursery trees with apples or in poorly ventilated apple storage rooms; plants new trees into fumigated orchard before soil is free from fumigant, causing major tree damage or poor tree performance; or abuses the trees by allowing tree desiccation or weed competition to occur through poor management practices. The orchardist is responsible for planting conditions and utilization of varieties and rootstocks.

S H I P P I N G I N F O R M A T I O N The trees are shipped F.O.B., Ephrata, WA. When the trees are shipped on our trucks, we are responsible for damage in shipping. When the trees are shipped on your trucks, or on private commercial carriers, you are responsible for damage in shipping. It is your responsibility to contact the carrier and submit the damage claims to commercial carriers. We recommend that small shipments be sent by air freight during the cold winter months or by UPS when there is no fear of freezing. Larger shipments can be shipped by heated trucks except during extreme cold weather conditions.

B O X I N G C O S T S Trees will be boxed at cost upon buyer’s request.

T R E E S D E L I V E R E D I N O U R T O T A L C A R E S Y S T E M P A L L E T E S In Washington State and British Columbia, Canada, we will deliver and pick up the pallets at cost at grower’s request. The growers are welcome to pick up tree orders in pallets also. These PALLETS MUST BE RETURNED WITHIN 45 DAYS from delivery. $85.00 per pallet will be charged for all unreturned or destroyed pallets.

F I R E B L I G H T S U S C E P T I B I L I T Y Many of the new varieties being planted today are susceptible to fireblight. Special care and preventative sprays are recommended for newly planted orchards.

T E R M S O F P A Y M E N T Until credit is established, all orders must be prepaid. Once credit is established, payment is due in full within 30 days following the invoice date. A service charge of 1.5% per month is charged on invoice balances unpaid after 30 days. Payment may be made with currency, check or bank transfer.

1 % C E R T I F I C A T I O N T A X Washington State requires a 1% certification tax to be assessed on all fruit tree sales. The money is used for the improvement and certification of fruit tree nursery stock grown in Washington State.

M I N I M U M O R D E R S For orders less than 25 trees, add $15 per tree.

D E P O S I T S All tree orders and contracts require a deposit. Tree order allocations are made based on replacement trees being first, then on the date the deposit was received at Willow Drive Nursery.
