Martial Arts team opens competition season

Workshop to make container gardening look easy

Competition team from Indiana Acad-emy of Martial Arts in Greendale has begun the 2012 competition season.

Team members Sydney Pitts and Kinsey Price, both fourth grade stu-dents at OCEMS, competed in the first tournament of the season at Level 10 Martial Arts Academy in Indianapolis, Ind., on March 10th. Pitts and Price finished 1 and 2 respectively in the Breaking, TKD Forms, and Sparring events.

Pitts and Price, along with fellow OCEMS second grader Logan Wel-zel, and RSHS student Jake Jackson also competed at the AMAA qualify-ing Smith Martial Arts Tournament in Greensburg on March 31st. Pitts won the Forms, Point Sparring, and Olym-pic sparring events. Price was second in Forms and Points Sparring, and won her division in Olympic Sparring. Jackson, in his first competition as a black belt, won his division in Forms and Olympic Sparring, and finished

third in Points Sparring. Welzel, com-peting in his first tournament, won his Forms division.

The competition team will next be in action at the Hammersley Martial Arts AMAA qualifier on May 12th in Carmel, Ind.

In conjunction with the Rising Sun Parks Board, IAMA is offering Tae Kwon Do classes at the Fairgrounds Exhibit building on Wednesdays, from 6 to 7 p.m. The fee is $10/class. All skill levels and ages are welcome.
