RSY-Netzer is all about immersing yourself in an exciting Jewish environment, being empowered, and making lifelong friends. We are an inclusive youth movement that takes a fun, modern approach to Reform Judaism and informal education in a safe, supportive environment.
We aim to inspire and empower you through innovative, engaging learning and informed decision making within our Reform community. We do this through living out our key values of Reform Judaism, Reform Zionism, Tikkun Olam (social action) and Livluv (personal development).
RSY-Netzer is the youth movement for Reform Judaism in the UK and has been around for over 30 years. Every year hundreds of young Jewish people experience our welcoming and exciting Jewish community.

INTRODUCING RSY-NETZER WHY CHOOSE RSY-NETZER?
By sending your child on RSY-Netzer Shemesh, you will be giving them the gift of magical memories. Your child will have a summer full of adventure, interesting and engaging learning, fun-filled days and nights spent with friends, as well as the chance to learn from positive young adult role models. These magical memories will last forever.
What makes RSY-Netzer camps unique?RSY-Netzer is a Reform Jewish environment unlike any other. RSY-Netzer gives your children space to explore different ideas, discover their passions, tackle challenging questions and make lots of friends. Our camps enable them to think and experience prayer in new and creative ways. We support them in becoming well rounded young people with an open view of the Jewish community, Israel and the world around them.
How our camps workShemesh is a chance for your child to live for two weeks (or 7 days for Briyah) in a Reform Jewish community. We know that it is important for them to feel comfortable and at ease in their surroundings, so we split the age groups on to different camps. At each camp there are a range of fun activities to join in with as well as space to relax. Our camps have single-sex dormitories (or tents for Atid). Our leaders provide a friendly face to educate and inspire your children. All this while being part of an active, friendly and supportive RSY-Netzer community!
StaffingRSY-Netzer is a youth movement run by young people for young people. Shemesh camps (including Garinim) are run for 4-15 year olds and staffed by 17-23 year old volunteers. Most of our madrichimot (leaders) were participants on Shemesh and, after being involved in RSY-Netzer for a number of years, are excited to have the opportunity to create the wonderful camps they loved so much as chanichimot (participants).
A lot of time and effort is put into training and supporting our volunteer madrichmot. They are all fully DBS checked and graduates of our intensive leadership programme. Madrichimot spend much of June and July preparing themselves and the incredible programmes for Shemesh, working tirelessly to provide an exciting and stimulating experience for our chanichimot.
In addition, each camp has an experienced Welfare Officer and Medic, and all are supported by the RSY-Netzer full time Movement Workers and the Youth Department staff.

Should you have paid in excess of the amount due to RSY-Netzer because of the (for example but not limited to) sibling discounts, RSY-Netzer will refund you any excess monies paid. We will contact you for your bank details if this is the case.

There is complete confidentiality throughout the process and the identities of the recipients of Financial Assistance remain anonymous.

CommunicationIn the run up to Shemesh we provide parents
with all the details about camp by email and further details are available on our website. In February, there will be a Parents’
Information Evening in London, that will also
be available online, if you would like to find
out more information before signing up. In
June, following applications, there will be a
Parents’ Information Evening in London that
will also be available online, to go through
further details and answer questions in the
build-up to the summer. In early July, we will
send an information email detailing travel
arrangements, kit list, contact details plus additional information that may be required.
Before camp, you will be given an emergency
number, which will be available 24/7. During
camp, we aim to share photos on social media so that you can keep up to date. This is
dependent on an adequate wifi signal on camp.
PracticalitiesWe provide coach travel to and from London
and transport to and from Manchester and
Leeds (numbers permitting). On departure day,
you will be advised when your children have
arrived on camp. On return day, your children
will have their mobile phones so they can give
you live updates throughout the journey home.
If there are any major delays, we will endeavour
to advise you by email/text.
There will be opportunities on camp for your
children to phone home. You will be advised of
the dates and time for them to call home.
We know how essential it is to refuel young,
active people and so, we have created tasty
vegetarian menus with plenty of fresh and
healthy food. Fruit will be readily available each
day and tuck will also be available during camp.
Welfare SupervisionAt RSY-Netzer, we pride ourselves on our professional approach towards the health
and safety of our participants. We employ
a Wellbeing and Inclusion Manager all year
round. In addition, we have an experienced
Welfare Officer on each camp who is on call
24/7. These Welfare Officers are people with
professional experience as teachers or working
with young people, and generally have a youth
movement background themselves.
Our aim is to always create a warm and safe
atmosphere for our participants and we are
the only youth movement to offer this level of
professional support. To complement this, our
madrichimot (leaders) are trained in handling
welfare issues as part of their leadership training course and are supplemented with
further training every year.
RSY-Netzer operates an inclusive approach
towards accommodating all young people
where possible. We are able to support young
people with a range of medical, physical, social
and emotional needs. For your child’s benefit,
it is essential that even sensitive information is
recorded to us on the Enrolment Form.
We take both confidentiality and compliance
with national standards for child welfare very
seriously. After your form has been completed,
if anything changes, or any new welfare and
medical needs arise, it is your responsibility to
advise us as soon as possible. This will enable us
to best provide for your child.
Buddy SystemRSY-Netzer welcomes new participants. We have set up a buddy system to help our participants to make new friends before
Shemesh starts and to make their first experience on camp all the more enjoyable.
If your child would like to be put in contact
with someone from your area before camp
please let us know by contacting Alyson on
020 8349 5666. We will endeavour to find
someone in your area, however, we cannot
guarantee this.
Wondering what you’ll do on camp? Here are a few examples of activities which regularly occur on Shemesh:
Balagan Ba’boker (Morning Mayhem) – Most days of camp begin with Balagan Ba’boker, which can range from activities such as Zumba and dancing to yoga and meditation. No matter what, our days always start with something fun.
Nossim (Streams) – Nossim are projects which take place over the course of multiple sessions. Run by our skilled madrichimot (leaders), Nossim can range from drama and music to science and sports. There is always something for everyone in our Nossim sessions.
Issues Groups – Similar to Nossim, issues groups takes place over the course of multiple sessions. Our madrichimot choose topics which they are particularly passionate about and run creative activities to explore these issues. In the past, issues groups have covered a wide range of topics, such as environmentalism, social media and politics.
Active Time – Most days there will be sports and other more active options, such as wide games and site activities, for the chanichimot to participate in and let off some steam!
Ma’amadim (Creative Services) – As a Reform Jewish youth movement, prayer is an important part of the day on camp. Our madrichim run ma’amadim, which aim to allow chanichimot (participants) to engage with prayer in a way that they can’t usually do in a synagogue setting.
Kef Peulot (Fun Activities) – Throughout the day our madrichimot will run kef peulot, with the pure aim of everyone having as much fun as possible. There’s no telling what world you’ll explore each day on camp.
Chinuch Peulot (Informal Educational Activities) – Chanichimot will take a journey through our educational theme for the year, with the activities written by our madrichimot. They are specifically aimed at each year group and make learning fun and engaging.
Structured Free Time (SFT) – SFT will give a huge range of options for our chanichim to choose from. Our madrichimot aim to run a wide variety of sessions each time to make sure that everyone has something they’re interested in. Examples can range from friendship bracelet making to playing frisbee, to a good old sing-song.
