Intervention

What is RtII?
Data driven process to improve reading and math instruction:
• Standards aligned Instruction
• Universal screening
• Shared ownership
• Data based decision making
PA Standards Aligned System (SAS):
PDE - SAS
The instructional process mandates high quality instruction with a rigorous standards aligned curriculum for all students. In fact, our core classroom instruction should be meeting at least 80% of our students’ needs within the regular classroom.
5% of our students
5% - 15% of our students
80% - 85% of our students
Universal Screening:
All students are screened to determine academic status against grade-level benchmarks.
• Fall, Winter, Spring
• Comprehensive resource for curriculum based measurements

4Sight Study Island
Shared Ownership: All staff (general education teachers, special education teachers, Title I, ESL) assume an active role in students’ assessment and instruction in the standards‐aligned-system
• RtII is a regular education initiative NOT a special education initiative.
• Parents are engaged – parents are informed of their child’s needs, interventions, intervention schedule, and progress. They may request additional evaluation at any time.
Data Based Decision Making:
Remember – the RtII focus must be instruction:
• Supports for RtII must be in place (tiers, time for staff learning, time for collaboration)
• Data discussions must take place (data analysis teaming)
• Professional Development must be on-site and job-embedded (coaching, capacity building, integration of Best Practices)
What does this mean for Wilson?• We will continue to assess district and building
needs to ensure fidelity to the RtII process
• Teams will be maintained or developed (as the case may be) and capacity for supporting the process will be increased
• A dynamic menu of interventions will be generated and selection will be dependent upon data driven decisions – student needs
• Schedules will be developed in support of the process not in conflict with it
• A central resource of information will be developed and maintained in conjunction with continued professional development
• All students will be engaged in high quality core instruction within the SAS framework
