Dear Fellow Cattle Enthusiasts,Another year has flown by and it is sale season again. We would like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to the Fourth Annual Livin’ the Dream Sale. I sincerely want to thank you for your consideration, we know there are many places to shop for cattle, but I am confident that is set is as deep with quality from top to bottom as you will find anywhere. Without question, our goal is to make our cattle better and better every year, no doubt this is our best group yet, and early visitors have agreed. I have never been a high pressure sales type, rather let the cattle speak for themselves, but if you want an honest opinion, give me a call and I will tell you what I think.

Whether you are looking for your next Purebred or Foundation show heifers, Bred Heifers, or Donor Cow prospects, we are confident that you have come to the right place. We are proud that our pictures honestly represent our cattle, so rest assured, what you see in the catalog is what is running around in our pens. We know our females can raise heifers and bulls, and are expected to thrive in real world conditions, so be confident that your purchase will go home and make you money when you put her in production. Every year we get more and more reports of success stories from our genetics.

What great times we are enjoying as cattle breeders right now. The cattle business is as good as it has ever been and looks to be good for quite some time. Commercial cattle are worth a lot of money right now. I truly believe that these pedigreed cattle with predictability seem to be the most logical purchase right now. Whether they are purebred or percentage, spending a few hundred extra dollars to know generations of genetics seems to make a great deal of financial sense, and a decision that will not take long to pay off. Please note that almost all bred heifers sell safe to their AI dates, bred to some of the most potent sires available today.

We would also like to thank our guest consigners: Nelson Family Farms, RS&T Simmentals, Lukavsky Cattle Co, 102 River Run Cattle Co, Hilbrands Cattle Company, Westfork Farms, and Ruppert Cattle Co. I think you will find that they all share the same passion for raising functional cattle as we do, and that they have brought their best. They have all been partners or customers, and we are truly excited to have them as part of Livin’ the Dream!

Visitors are always welcome here, so if you are in the area before the sale, please stop by. If you get your fill of turkey and want to get out of the house, come by Thursday and look

through the cattle and join us for supper. We will be serving our famous brisket lunch on sale day so bring your appetites! Don’t forget our annual Bull sale on February 7, 2015 in Lamoni,

Iowa. Many mates to these sale heifers will sell. If you want to see them at sale time, they will be available for viewing as well. We look forward to seeing you on sale day. If you have any questions, please feel free to call any of us or any of the sales representatives.

Hope to see you soon! Nate, Leslie, and Creed Ruby

What a way to start this year’s catalog! Here is a heifer that I think is a game changer. This Rhythm daughter is absolutely flawless in her design. She is as sound as you can build one and stands on a perfect foot and an abundance of bone. I love how square she is out of her hip and flows down into a great rear leg design. She is deep bodied and is especially good in her forerib and flank. Then move into that flat made front shoulder and nice neck, and I think we have one that is pretty special. There is no Legacy or no Meyer in her pedigree, which also adds to her appeal and mating flexibility. If you look a little closer you will notice that she is linebred Joker and Power Drive, two bulls I consider the best female makers that the breed has seen. The Rhythm daughters make their owners money, and this heifer may make as much as any so far. I truly believe that this kind of opportunity does not come along everyday, so take advantage of this one.

If you like extra foot, bone, stoutness, and hair in your heifers, take a look at this pair of flush mates. This has been a very successful mating here. We are retaining a full sister to these heifers as a future donor. She calved this fall and has a beautiful udder and is doing a great job raising her first calf. I think these heifers will make great purebreds, but I also think that they would work great for producing awesome SimAngus™. I get calls every year for people looking for Simmental steers, and I think that these are the type of females if you mate to a popular Club Calf bull, could really produce those high dollar half blood steers.

We thought we would change things up for a flush with Rhythm, and we are sure glad that we did. This Monopoly sired female will give you whiplash when you walk by, she is that good. She is extremely sound and flexible, with a huge rib cage that carries back into her flank. She is as good fronted and smooth shouldered as you would expect coming out of this mating as well. I realize that Monopoly heifers sell every day, but how many can say that they are backed by one the best cows in the Simmental breed? As a visitor stated to me, “this could be the most maternal Monopoly heifer that has been born,” and I think he could be right. She is feminine enough to show as a foundation, but cool and stout enough to show commercial as well. The choice will be yours, but make sure you are the one that gets to make that decision.

I absolutely love this SimAngus™ heifer. She is a full sister to the heifer that was campaigned by Ryan McConahay a couple years back. That heifer ended up being the Reserve Foundation Female at the Iowa State Fair 4-H show. I believe that this heifer is good enough to follow in her sisters footsteps. She is the longest necked, prettiest made heifer from this mating. She is very flat in her shoulder design and ties into a big sweeping rib cage. She is square made in very sound in her rear leg design. If you are looking for a dominant Foundation heifer for next year, this one needs to be on your list.

What a genetic gem this heifer is. She is the first calf out of the Calf Champion heifer at the Iowa State Fair 3 years ago, that we decided to keep. She is in the top 25 percentile in 10 different traits. She is extremely stout made,

huge bodied, and very easy keeping. She combines that with a nice look and still moves out well for as much power as she has. I would usually keep one like this for a bred, but I think that she has enough look for a junior to have some fun with. This is the kind of female that will raise those high dollar commercial bulls. I know that without a doubt she will end up in somebody’s donor pen.

Co-owned with Nelson Family Farms The dam of this heifer has had 3 heifers, and all of them have made the sale. This is your typical Pays To Dream daughter. She is very sound made, good bodied, has a nice look to her, and stands on an abundance of foot and bone. If you are in search of a heifer with a little more frame and growth, this one fits the bill. The Pays to Dream sired cattle that we have had, get better every day, which has me excited for the future of this heifer. I think she will make an absolutely stunning bred heifer.

Another Combustible daughter that has been one of our favorites. She is moderate in her design, and is very easy keeping. This baldy heifer has a very nice look to her, while being big bodied, and square made. Her dam is an In Dew Time out of a full sister to Rhythm 418P. She has really done an outstanding job for us. Here is one that will be a lot of fun in the show ring, but will make an even better cow. Buy with confidence here. She is homozygous black by pedigree.

This has been one of our favorite heifers since she hit the ground. Her mother has consistently raised some of our best cattle, regardless of what we breed her to. This Rhythm family member is big footed and big boned while being stout made and lots of body. If you want some hair to play with all summer, then this is your heifer. She is one of the hairiest heifers I have been around, and it is the long, straight, good stuff. Sired by the popular Combustible, I am sure she will catch your eye on sale day.

Here is a Combustible daughter out of a full sister to Rhythm 418P. This is a very loose made, big bodied heifer that is extra smooth in her makeup and has an easy going disposition. We have kept several sisters to this heifer and they go on to make outstanding cows. One of those sisters has one of our best bulls in our bull pen, and another has Lot 6. Co-owned with Nelson Family Farms This happens to be the only open Madden daughter in the sale this year. The last two years he has played a clean up role in our herd with limited, non-selective usage. Last year out of a handful of calves, he sired the high selling open heifer. We had mostly bull calves this year and some young heifers, but we wanted to put one in, so I chose this Rhythm family member. She has a very nice look to her, while being very sound in her design. She is the youngest purebred open that we are putting in the sale, but don’t discount her because of that. Here is an outcross heifer with an outstanding set of performance numbers that you will be able to do a lot of things with.

The Wicked Woman progeny are no strangers to this sale. Her first calf was a high seller a couple years back to the Ottensmeier family from Kansas. One of her bulls calves was a high seller in our bull sale and was also a member of the Champion Pen of 3 in Denver. This awesome looking, direct Meyer daughter is really making an impact in our program. This baldy Combustible daughter is one to find on sale day. She has the attitude to make a great first year project and the quality for the most discerning buyer. She won her class at the state fair and had many admirers. I believe this heifer has a bright future ahead of her.

This Grandmaster female has been catching the eye of early visitors and for good reason. This attractive, stout, square made heifer is very soft made and sound structured. She also has an outcross pedigree, with no Dream On or Legacy.

I think that she will be a fun one to show that will be competitive, but will also go on to produce some high quality, profitable, progeny. I truly believe the Wicked Woman cow is just getting warmed up here.

Co-owned with Hilbrands Cattle Company Uprising set the breed on fire a couple years back and we think we have a couple of the finest daughters around in this pair of Firefly heifers. Long, long necked, good bodied, and super sound best describe these flush mates. We recently took these heifers to a local college judging contest and a couple of prominent livestock judging coaches absolutely loved these heifers. They are off to a good start with that kind of admiration. These girls will be competitive early and late, so if you’re looking for that special one, take a look at these two.

Co-owned with Hilbrands Cattle Company The Steel Force x Firefly mating is as potent as they come. Last year a full sister was a top selling heifer in the sale and these sisters remind me of that heifer. This pair of heifers are big footed and big legged, while being very stout in their make up and still have that one of a kind Firefly look. With their extra power and look, I think that these heifers also have a lot of diversity when it comes time to choose matings. Purebred, SimAngus™, maternal, or club calf, the choice will be yours, but I am confident that all will work.

Co-owned with Shipwreck Cattle These Broker sired females are definitely the real deal. They are both big footed, huge legged heifers that are

stout made with lots of body depth and shape. Not to mention their long, smooth front ends. If you study their pedigree you will notice that they are double bred to the great H25 donor cow. She is a cow that made a bigger impact on the breed as time went on, the sign of a truly great animal. This may be the most potent flush born here this year. These are the only two females, which I believe are outstanding, and their bull mates are every bit as good. A full brother will be on display sale day and I think he is the best bull born on the farm to date, so make sure to check him out while you’re here. There is a lot of power here, both phenotypically and genotypically, so take advantage of this opportunity.

Sometimes a mating just clicks and such is the case here. The first full sib was a bull that was the lead bull in a Reserve Pen of 3 in

Denver and went on to sell to Downing Show Cattle of Creston, IA. The second full sib is one we have retained and is one of the best replacement heifers that we have. This is the third full sib and we think she is very good as well. She combines loads of body depth while being extremely stout and square into a good looking, easy moving package. This is a female and a mating to build a herd around so make sure to give her a good look.

We sampled Oval F’s Cool Dude bull and with a heifer like this we are glad we did. Here is a long fronted, big boned, big footed heifer that is big bodied and stout made. She is very sound and fluid in her movement with

great hair. Her dam is always one of first cows that gets picked out by visitors that go through the cows. She also raised a high selling bull in our sale last year that went to Garman Show cattle in Algona, IA. He was a real good one and we sure think this female is too. Co-owned with Shipwreck Cattle The Yucatan sired progeny really have us excited, and the mating with this powerful, young donor really clicked. They are stout made heifers with performance that are sound footed and easy moving. The solid black, B451 female, is a very complete and well balanced individual that is hard to poke a hole in. The white faced B450 female maybe the biggest bellied, most capacious female that has ever roamed the pens here at Murray. What really makes her special is that with all that rib is a smooth shoulder and a long, clean, front end. It’s like having your pie and eating too. Their Upgrade x Lucky Dice dam is also a flush mate to the high selling heifer at Louisville a few years back that was purchased by Kappes Simmentals, and is now one of their lead donors. Get on board early here, this is just the beginning from this great, young cow.

Co-owned with Nelson Family Farms BIG TIME! Big time show heifer, big time donor cow, big time income generator. In case you can’t tell, I like this heifer quite a bit. Her dam is one of our up and coming donors that is quickly proving herself as one of the best Baldy outcross donors around. This heifer is one that will grab your attention with her striking look, yet is still very sound on the move. She is a stout made girl with lots of performance and combines all that with a very balanced EPD profile and a very good disposition. Looking at her pedigree you will notice that it is Legacy and Meyer free, which as we all know is so hard to find these days. This is a heifer that has a bright, bright future ahead.

The last few years we have purchased some embryos on breed leading cows that we don’t have any genetics out of, and once again we were lucky enough to get a heifer. I think that a book could be written about the success

of Dwight Cooper’s Sheza Fantasy N906 cow. She has produced multiple big show winners that have gone on to be great donor cows. We purchased these embryos with high hopes and I can say that we are definitely happy with the results. This heifer has been a standout since the beginning. There have been several good Brokers to sell this fall, and I think she can stand with the best of them. Backed by a great, highly potent donor only adds to this heifers appeal. Selling 50% interest. Yucatan was a past high selling bull from our bull sale to Roger Holscher of Nebraska. He is out of the great L27 donor and 3C Lava, so there is no Legacy in these genetics.

We used him heavily on our Angus cows with great results. This is an embryo calf out of a Great Plains sired donor cow whose dam was the only full sister to OCC Anchor, so talk about power in the blood! We are big on udder quality here and one thing is for certain, the maternal sisters to this heifer are as nice uddered as any cow you will find. This heifer is also very long and feminine fronted while being very sound and soft made. This is the kind that you can’t have enough of and one that we shouldn’t be selling. She is what a heifer should look like, she is moderate built and is sow bellied, and is good structured. She is a heifer that can get out and travel with ease, and to top it all off she is a blaze face. Her mother is one of my donor cows that I acquired from A & S Simmentals when they sold their cows. She was the high seller in Denver when they bought her. She has proven herself in the short time I have had her, as she has been bred several different ways and never disappoints. Guest Breeder: Ruppert Cattle Co. If you are looking for a foundation heifer, then you have to take a serious look at this one. She is very attractive through her front one third

but with that one third she still has the depth of body that will make her a great one, and to top it off she has a beautiful blaze face. She has already proven herself, as she was Reserve Grand Champion Foundation Female at the Midwest Fall Classic in Spencer this past September. Her real destiny is as a cow, as she is out of one of my best cow families I have ever had. Her great grandma is out of the famous Gunsmoke Angus bull and her grandma is a Macho, her mother is a Northern Improvement and we all know what kind of cows they make. Guest Breeder: Nelson Family Farms If you are looking for a top end purebred heifer, take a long look at this one. This heifer is extremely long fronted and smooth shouldered. She

is deep bodied with great rib shape and is square made. She is very sound on the move and has a perfect rear leg design. Here is a prime example of the quality of cattle the Excalibur daughters can produce. The dam of this heifer is an Excalibur daughter out of our great Wicked donor cow. Wicked was a many time winner, being named champion at the NAILE Junior Show, The Iowa State Fair, and the Minnesota Beef Expo. This heifer’s sire is an Upgrade son out of an In Dew Time x New Frontier 095 dam. Here is an opportunity to buy a heifer that will compete at any level that is backed by a great cow family. Check out the growth numbers here.

Co-owned with Mike Isley This Madden daughter is one that we decided to put in the sale at the last minute. She just kept catching our eye with the replacements and so we decided to give her a bath and picture her. She is still pretty green, but if

you can look past that, all the parts are there to be a really cool prospect heifer that I think will develop into a drop dead good bred heifer. Her dam is sired by the great Hannibal bull that left so many great females around the country. If you are looking for some clean genetics with a bunch of maternal power to raise some high dollar club calves, make sure to take a look at this heifer.

Here is a Madden daughter out of a first calf heifer that comes from probably the most consistent mating we have made to date, In Dew Time x K18. This

blaze faced female is good bodied for her length and offers a lot of performance. She is long necked and stout made. She is a bit bigger in her frame and I think that she and Style will really complement each other. Style has really hit when bred to the Rhythm genetics, and expect nothing less here. Safe to AI date.

The Wide Opens are making great cows all across the country and you will be able to add these to the list. All three are a little different in their design, but they all share that same striking look that really draws you to them. Their dam has been a very productive female and she produced a high selling open in last year’s sale. Buy one, buy two, or buy three, the choice is yours, but all have heifer calves. I think the return on investment will be outstanding because I think these heifers will really work with Pays to Dream. Each safe to AI date.

This baldy female is one of our best from the 2013 calf crop. She is as complete as you can make one with a very attractive look. Her maternal sister also sells in this sale as Lot 31. Pays to Dream really worked on her dam, and with the added power this heifer has, expect great thing. She is a little faster than most, which is the reason we didn’t sell her as an open, but has never been aggressive. We wanted to be up front about her attitude, but if you can deal with it, she is really, really good. Safe to AI date.

Maybe the coolest looking bred in the whole sale. If you like them rocked necked, yet still sound, stout and easy doing, then take a look here. She is a granddaughter of our great 8172 cow that has produced so many great cattle. With this heifer’s look and power, I think that the mating to Pays To Dream will really be a good one. There is cow power on both sides of this heifers pedigree. Safe to AI date.

This heifer may be the hardest heifer of the group to part with. She is a direct daughter of our 8172 Angus cow, who we lost this spring. 8172 has been the dam or granddam of many high selling bulls and heifers, and is also the dam of some of the most productive cows in our herd. This heifer, like all of her siblings, is moderate and easy fleshing in her design. The great thing about these 8172 descendants is that even though they are moderate, they milk hard, keep their condition, and are fertile. Breed her to raise bulls or heifers, the choice will be yours. This heifer is backed by one of the greatest cows to roam our pastures and one that will leave a legacy here forever. Safe to the baldy Final Answer son that topped our bull sale a couple years back. Safe to AI date.

Guest Breeder: RS&T Simmental A303 is a flush mate sister to two open heifers we sold in the 2013 Livin the Dream Sale out of our best purebred donor JDJ Rich and Rare 12S x Ruby NFF Excalibur, making this pedigree an outcross to the Dream On and Power Drives of the Simmental breed. Carrying the AI service of WS All Around and a heifer calf by ultrasound, this female is a must have for any Simmental breeding program. Rich and rare, described by Kerry Hart as the best cow he has ever seen, and everyone knows about the popularity and excitement that Excalibur created when he sold at “The One Sale”. True cattleman will see the overall value and potential of this mating of outcross pedigree and this female is carrying the AI service of the wildly popular Montecito. As an added bonus was ultrasounded to be carrying a heifer calf. Once you see this A305 female, you will want to acquire these genetics for your own program advancement. Discussing matings to use on the Triple C Lola M640, after being fortunate to acquire her from Wesner Livestock Enterprises, IN, with Roger Allen he strongly recommended the Dreamworks bull and I think you will agree it was an awesome recommendation. Her flush mate sister was a top open for us at the 2013 Livin the Dream Sale, thank you to Scott Gonsior, and I am pretty sure A306 is an even stronger representation of this mating. This pair of sisters maybe as good as we have offered in the bred department. You will have to drive your wheels off to find one bred heifer offered for sale that is this good, let alone two. They are both cut out of the same mold, being good looking, extremely stout made heifers that combine that with an abundance of bone. They are very sound and fluid on the move and are both very nice haired. They are direct daughters of our great L27 donor cow. Our friends at Trans Ova think she is the most impressive looking cow that we bring them and I can’t argue as she is truly stunning for an aged cow. The Montecitos that we have calved are doing a great job and udder quality runs deep in this cow family. I am confident that both of these heifers will end up as donors, the only question is who will be paying the embryo bill? Here is a chance to take your program to the next level. It is always an a very difficult decision for me as to what heifers to sell and I never thought I would let this one go. Our clean up bull didn’t do his job and so we needed more numbers, and I had to dig deep. We mate all of these heifers like we are going to keep them, and I thought the Bismarck son, Unbelievable would really work here. We would have had plenty more cows from this cow family in our herd, but this heifers granddam got hurt at a young age and we had to put her down. She was a class winner everywhere she went and was also a granddaughter of the great 47C. We have two daughters in our herd and both are doing a great job. This heifer is very good looking, sound, stout and good bodied. She also in the top 5% in API and offers a very balanced EPD profile. Here is another one that I think will work very well with Style. If you can appreciate a big, powerful heifer with lots of growth, then here she is. Once again, she is backed by a highly productive cow family that has done a great job here. It is hard to find these Angus sired females with the extra bone and muscle that this one has. She is a bit faster than the average but has never shown any aggression. We mated her to the high docility Final Answer son that topped our sale a few years back. Lots of power here. Safe to AI date.

Moderate framed, cool looking, deep bodied, stout and sound. I am not sure what else you need in a big time cow prospect, but I think this one has all the bases covered. We have been trying to keep as many of these good half bloods as we can out of these good Ohlde bred Angus cows, but every now and again we let a couple out. One thing is consistent here year in and year out, our moderate framed cows raise our biggest calves, stay in shape while doing it, and they breed back. Take advantage of this opportunity to buy a great cow prospect safe with a heifer calf. Safe to AI date.
