Watching a Movie
• Unfortunately, the movie that your class selected last week did not have Chinese subtitles (字幕 ). We will be watching a different movie today with subtitles.
• Try not to rely too much on the subtitles! The English is simple enough to follow if you listen closely.
COMICSCOMICS
What is a comic?• A comic (动漫 ) tells a story by using
organized images and words. Comics are usually cartoons.
• There are many different kinds of comics around the world, from superhero (奇能异士 ) comics in America to manga (漫画 ) from Asia (亚洲 ).
Parts of a Comic• Panel (格 ) – the panels are the boxes that
contain the cartoons in comics. One page usually has several panels.
• Speech (话 ) bubble (泡 ) – the speech bubble contains a character’s dialogue.
• Caption (字幕 ) – in a caption, words appear in a box separated from the rest of the panel or page, usually to give voice to a narrator
• Sound Effects (拟声词 ) – comics often include words that mimic sounds.
