•Oracle MyOracleSupport (Metalink) 249212.1 defines Oracle’s VMware support policy most broadly

•Support facts:

• Oracle will only provide support for issues that either are known to occur on the native OS, or can be demonstrated not to be as a result of running on VMware.

• If a problem is a known Oracle issue, Oracle support will recommend the appropriate solution on the native OS. If that solution does not work in the VMware virtualized environment, the customer will be referred to VMware for support.

What is SAP HANA and In-memory • HANA is a next generation architecture for SAP based on “In-Memory” database

technology – The database technology from SAP is a mixture of SAP innovated and acquired

technologies

• The goal of “In-Memory” is to significantly improve the ability to make business decisions in real-time

– Queries that once took minutes or longer can now take a few seconds – HANA can scale to 460 billion records on <$500K in hardware and reduce a 77

minute transaction to 12 seconds


What is SAP HANA • HANA initially is focused on Analytics

– Normally for “BI” (Business Intelligence) based on Data Warehouse technologies – SAP currently positions existing “Accelerator” technologies (SAP BWA and SAP BOE) in this space – Future versions HANA will address OLTP

• HANA functionality will be available in service packs and not releases – ‘Scale out’ features, including support for external storage have been pulled in to Q2 from Q4

• Early adopters of the technology include Colgate, B/S/H, Caterpillar, Nestle, Infosys, T-Mobile, Daimler and Proctor & Gamble

– Most are using it for speed sensitive data analytics and planning
