2017 Free to BE ME! “There is no one alive who is yo u-er than you!” –Dr. Seuss The Hub The month of June has blown by quickly and yet another month of activities and outings that the Hub folks were able to enjoy. A crowd favorite was the Luau Party on Friday, June 9. The Hub folks visited The Zone and joined in the festivities as they wore Hawaiian shirts and grass skirts. There was also plenty of hula dancing and bongo drumming to Hawaiian and The Beach Boys music. We also had a snack that was a pudding cup with graham cracker crumbs as sand, Teddy Grahams laying on Fruit Roll-Up beach towels, and shark gummies. On June 16 the Hub folks attended a networking event put on by HOPE Services. The outings that the Hub folks went on included: Oak Openings, shopping at garage sales, and to the Open Door. This month the Hub folks plan on going out on a few picnic outings to get out into the nice weather ahead. They also plan on doing some Summer festivities like making S’mores, making homemade ice cream, and getting outside for some exercise.

This month in the Zone we have been going out on outings such as: the renovated Wauseon Public Library, Anything Grows, and Tony’s Pet Shop. The Zone put on a Luau Party on June 9. We invited the folks from the Hub and had a great time hula dancing, wearing Hawaiian shirts, and listening to Hawaiian music. During the week of June 19, everyone at TP participated in Spirit Week to rally for the Special Olympic athletes leaving for Summer Games June 23. The Spirit Week days were: Monday: Crazy Hat Day, Tuesday: Crazy Hair Day, Wednesday: Mismatch Day, Thursday: Decade Day, and Friday: Jaguar Pride or favorite sports team. There were many participants on each day and it was interesting seeing everyone’s fashion trends that week. Also, on Thursday, June 22 we had a Karaoke Challenge that later on turned into a dance party as well. We wanted to have some fun the day before the Special Olympic athletes left for Columbus. There were a lot of people that participated and there was a lot of fun that was had.On Wednesday June 14 we celebrated Flag Day by making our own American flags out of popsicle sticks. Also in the Zone, Shawn is currently working on a project to make all 50 state flags and once he is finished we will share it on a future newsletter.

You made Fulton County proud!

We have been busy creating items to be sold in our gallery and store. From pinwheels and flags to an ice cream sundae bash, we are in full summer mode!  We have put a lot of hard work and pride into pieces we wish to sell for others to enjoy in their homes.  We are working on turning the things we work on daily into items that are sellable, such as garden items, notecards, notebooks, and bookmarks and such.  All of us painted glass garden mushrooms, which have received a lot of positive feedback and look super cute on display in our windows!  Our retail area continues to incorporate art work from artists of all abilities, both in the displays and in the items we feature.  Several new local artists have recently joined us, and we are always looking to include more! With some evening hours now on Cruise Nights, the word seems to finally be getting out there.  Our Relay for Life event was a success, with the Studio donating $150 to the worthy cause. We still have plenty of cancer awareness keychains that we plan to donate the proceeds from as well.   We've finally had a few moments to play with clay and I'm looking forward to see how our items turn out.

Paulette CarpenterPaulette was born in Van Wert, Ohio, but moved to Liberty Center, Ohio and graduated

an LC Tiger.  She went to Four County her Junior/Senior in Health Occupations and got a job at Filling Home at the age of 16. She worked as a direct care staff for a few years and then became a supervisor/trainer. She married right out of high school to her sweetie, Chuck, and we will be married 44 years on June 23rd! She stayed at Filling Home for 22 years and was a working Mom of two girls, Kelly and Amie. From there she went to Fulton County board of DD and helped start the REACH program and then moved to the senior program.  Paulette worked there until TP privatized...23 years!  She feels fortunate to be hired by TP as a Team Leader and have enjoyed every minute of it!  She will unfortunately be retiring on August 18th and will miss each and every one of the TP staff and individuals! She is pleasured to have worked with her daughter, Kelly, these last few months.  She confesses that she will miss Kelly most of all!  She hopes to be called occasionally to sub so that we all don’t forget about her!  She also works a second job and have 2 individuals that she supports in Henry County.  They have been with her for 27 years and are like family.

Paulette also loves spending time with her family, including her 6 grandkids and 2 great grandkids!  She also has spent a lifetime rescuing animals and currently have 6 dogs and 8 cats!

Paulette has a camper on the river with a pontoon boat and love to spend time there. She also loves to travel and have been to the Virgin Islands 4 times on snorkel trips.  She is also very involved in her church and sing on the Praise Team and work in the nursery.    Her favorite TV shows are anything animal!  Pit Bulls and Parolees, My Cat from Hell, etc.!

Sue Murphy Sue is one of the nicest people that you would ever meet. She loves to sit and talk and ask you how you are doing. Everyone would agree that she is the best story teller around and that she has completed some great feats and has been to many places and met some awesome people. Something else everyone would agree on with Sue is her sense of fashion is excellent. She loves dressing in her Sunday’s best and flashing all of her jewelry. Sue enjoys spending time in the Hub each day and she likes to participate in Bingo, playing games, and also attending the Studio. Some more of her interests include country music, gardening, being involved at her church, and singing her favorite tunes.

Sue was one of the original senior citizens that was a part of Paulette’s group when Paulette started with the senior program at the Fulton County Board of DD. Sue will miss Paulette, but welcomes her to come visit and sub anytime so that she can still see her.
