Dear Friends,
This year for the celebration of the Epiphany, I invite you to join in the beautiful tradition of blessing your home. As you leave the church today after Mass, please take a piece of blessed chalk. When you get home, follow the simple and beautiful rite provided below to bless your home and literally mark this special occasion and God’s blessing on your home. The “C, M and B” which you will write have two meanings. The first is the traditional names of the wise men who visit Jesus on this day: Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar. The second is the Latin phrase: “Christus mansionem benedicat,” which means “May Christ bless the house.” As you take part in this simple and rich tradition, may each of your families be blessed today and the whole year through!
Sincerely in Christ, Fr. John
Instructions for Blessing the Home Using the blessed chalk mark the lintel of your front door (or front porch step) as follows:
20 + C + M + B + 19
While saying:
The three Wise Men, Caspar, Melchior, and Baltha-zar followed the star of God’s Son who became hu-man two thousand and 19 years ago. May Christ bless our home and remain with us throughout the new year. Amen.
Then offer the following prayer:
Visit, O blessed Lord, this home with the gladness of your presence. Bless all who live or visit here with the gift of your love; and grant that we may manifest your love to each other and to all whose lives we touch. May we grow in grace and in the knowledge and love of you; guide, comfort, and strengthen us in peace, O Jesus Christ, now and forever. Amen

SMRM … On behalf of the SMRM committee and Sacred Heart Church Staff, we would like to thank all who helped make the Heart to Heart Christmas tree and Christmas Gift Baskets a wonderful event. On Saturday, December 15th, our SHCS gym became a Christmas workshop full of Christmas presents and food baskets. Also, we had a very nice reception for all of the Heart to Heart Tree recipient families and all volunteers. Sacred Heart is a very generous Parish!! Thank you to all who provided food and gift donations. Our Parish provided Christmas food Baskets and Christmas presents for a new record of 60 families. We would like to extend a special Thank You to Marie and Matthew Licata for providing a wonderful reception for all. Thank you to Kathleen Dilliner for coordinating all of our Confirmandi as helper “elves”. The students did an amazing amount of work in a very short period of Time. Well Done !!! We would also like to thank all of the Adult volunteers who so very graciously gave up a Saturday morning to help make this event an excellent example of Love and charity. Merry Christmas.!
Christmas Blessings now and throughout the New Year! Susan Grathwohl - SMRM Coordinator Luke 2:10.
Catechetical Corner: Star of Bethlehem
Who were the wise men that came to visit Jesus and what was the star that they followed? Today when we think of the magi we usually think of three kings as the popular Christmas carol ‘We Three Kings of Orient Are’ depicts them. However, the magi are more commonly understood by theologians and historians as astrologers, those who used the alignment of the stars to predict the future. They would have regularly observed the night sky, so the fact that they noticed something peculiar and unusual, the Star of Bethlehem, would not have been a surprise at all. What could this star have been? Many believe the Star of Bethlehem was not actually a star. Stars have very regular movement across the night sky and these magi would not have seen anything surprising or irregular about a star. However, there are many other heavenly bodies that in the first century A.D. would not have been as easily understood as the stars or would have been mistaken as a miraculous star. There are many explanations but the most commonly accepted theory is that the magi noticed an unusual conjunction. The conjunction of heavenly bodies was most likely a planet which aligned with a star or another planet. This alignment would have been brighter than the other stars and would have ‘wandered’ across the sky, since planets do not move regularly across the sky as the stars do. The magi would have seen this sign and followed it looking for a king to honor with gifts. Imagine their surprise when they found a small child, the son of a carpenter, and of non-royal descent, who was born in a stable. Let us follow the example of the magi and always seek to find Christ and not be surprised when we find Him in the humble and lowliest of places.
We will begin with 8:00am Mass, and followed by one decade of the Holy Rosary. We will then process by car to the abortion facility, continuing our Rosary on the way. The Procession will begin sometime around 9am, depending on the length of Mass and travel time. Park down the road from the clinic, where you see the Our Lady of Guadalupe banner. Gather at the banner and we will process up to the clinic as a group. There will be Eucharistic Adoration happening at the parish while we are at the abortion mill. We will end our Procession for Life with Benediction at the Cathedral. Please join us, and spread the word!

Happy New Year!
Our mission is to proclaim the Good News of the Gospel and to develop each student spiritually, intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially, so that each is prepared to live and serve in a changing society as a self-respecting and responsible citizen. We propose to create an environment in which the teachings of Jesus are promoted and proclaimed as the basis of the values they teach and uphold.
Our school proclaims the Gospel's Good News in word and deed, and educates students to live and serve as respectful, Christian citizens.
Our school has open enrollment which means that we enroll students all throughout the year, as long as there is availability in that classroom. We encourage our parishioners to come explore our school. Please let us guide you on a tour to see what Sacred Heart School can mean to your family and your child.
Animamos a nuestros feligreses a venir a explorar nuestra escuela.
