Sacred Heart News Sacred Heart of Jesus Schoo l
October 2, 2013
Issue 4
Thanks to Elizabeth Paydo and her Flag Project as part of the Gold Scout Award.
SHS dedicated and blessed the flagpole on Humbolt Avenue. Students were able
to participate in song and prayer as Fr. Joe
and Fr. Mike lead the ceremony.
Washington D.C.
Our 8th grade class enjoyed 3 days of educational fun on their trip to our Nation’s Capital. All students
were treated to a 1st class tour highlighted by the Mass celebrated at the Shrine of Immaculate Con-
ception. We were also fortunate to visit the Naval Academy and meet with former SHS students Maria
Arnone, a Junior, and Michael Carps, a Senior Midshipman. Congressman Renacci took time out of his
busy schedule to answer questions and meet with us on the Capital steps.
Grandparents’ Day

It’s hard to believe we have been in school for over a month now! As you know, one of the goals of sending
your child to school is to help them become more independent. We ask that you drop off your child at the
steps and refrain from walking them in. This will help your child grow into a confident, successful student.
Thank you in advance for abiding by this request. We do understand that at times you may have to come in
so please let us know.
Drop Off in the Morning
GradeLock and Interims
Interims were available for viewing on GradeLock last Thursday, September 26. If you have not activated
your GradeLock account, please do so ASAP. If you have any questions about setting up your account, or
have misplaced your activation code, please contact Tina Grigsby at 330-334-6272 x1106 or
Parent/Teacher Conferences are Thursday, October
24th. If you have not signed up for a conference,
please contact your child’s teacher. All parents are
expected to participate in this 1st conference date.
We welcomed close to 600 grandparents and guests at our Grandparents’ Day
celebration. We love seeing our grandparents! Mary Gegick would like to thank
all of the volunteers who baked, set up, served, and cleaned up. These volun-
teers helped to make our Grandparent’ Day celebration a huge success. It
could not be accomplished without all of you! A big thank you goes out to the
7th grade class for providing the beautiful centerpieces. We also thank the
Wadsworth United Methodist Church for providing additional parking! Stu-
dents, please be sure to thank your special guests for joining us at our annual
Grandparents’ Day event! Pictures are currently being prepared and will be
distributed within the next 2 weeks.
Thank You For Supporting the KidStuff Fundraiser!
The KidStuff books were a huge success! SHS sold 138 books, which resulted in a $1725.00 profit. We also
had $20.00 in cash donations for the iPad covers. We are able to purchase 60 iPad covers for our school
with the money raised. Thank you to everyone who sold books and made this fundraiser possible, including
the teachers for all their help.

Deacon Roger wanted to celebrate his 78th
Birthday quietly but we wouldn’t let him. Fr.
Mike proclaimed the day Deacon Roger Day and
our students responded by making a stole deco-
rated with fish created by their thumb prints.
Wall of Honor
Our Wall of Honor commemorates veterans who are relatives of our school families. Our wall continues to
grow each year. We encourage our students who are new to Sacred Heart School to participate by bringing
in a picture of a veteran family member as well as a picture of the student and his/her family. We will then
add his or her star to our wall which will be highlighted during the Veterans Day celebration on November
11. All students are encouraged to participate!

October is Missions Month
It is tradition at Sacred Heart School that we ask each child to donate $1.00 to missions
during the month of October. We would like to receive 100% participation from students this
year. We will be having some friendly competitions throughout the month. Today was our
first collection with Baseball Fever!
