This week’s item comes from Year 6 student, Annie McLeod
Friendly, helpful and kind hearted is Mr Ashley Wiles, our community Pharma-cist. Ashley chose this job because he liked how you could play an important role in someone’s quality of life. He enjoys interacting with customers and helping them with any health questions they may have. Ashley is an inspiration to young people like me because of the empathy he shows to everyone. In Ashley's job he manages and dispenses medications. He explains how to take medication and the side effects they have. He also deals with health conditions like diabetes and first aid treatments like burns and cuts. People see him if they are unsure if they need to see a doctor and he also helps people with acute sick-nesses like cold, flu and hay fever. Ashley is a well respected member of the community. When his wife went into labour with his daughter, he was working on his own. As the Pharmacy couldn’t be open without a pharmacist on duty, everyone needed to leave the shop includ-ing staff. Then the customers went out and stopped the traffic in the main street so Ashley could drive straight home to his wife. Ashley is a big believer in treating people how you would treat your family. He says “The person you are treating is someone’s nan or pop, mum or dad, brother or sister, son or daughter.” He went on to say “If one of my family mem-bers went into a pharmacy, I would want them to get the best advice and service so why should it be different for anyone else.” Ashley believes our community is one big family, so being a community pharma-cist means you have to be able to communicate kindly and with patience to peo-ple of all ages and abilities. He shows patience and empathy to all people all the time. He understands your problems and tries to help you solve them. Ashley WIles is a voice of hope in our community because he is working to make everyone’s future better. When I grow up I would like to be an inspiration to oth-ers, like Ashley is to me. He is always caring for others.
We have an assortment of kitchenware in the staff room.
