The AFC can come to a sudden stop when it encounters a geological rock fault, hard material, or gaps. The inertia of the driveline and motor continue to deliver torque, which can cause severe damage or overheating.

Joy Mining Machinery has installed SafeSet torque limiting couplings to protect against the chain breaking during pro-duction. A chain break can create significant downtime as the conveyor needs to be cleared of built up rock or coal.
