Chapter 1: Using this Guide

About this Guide This guide is a step‐by‐step approach describing how to properly install and setup the Abra Benefits Messenger System. This guide provides the information that you need to install the following Abra Benefits Messenger components: Pre‐installer, Full Installer, Client Installer, Server Components and Benefits Messenger for AWC Installer. The guide is a comprehensive reference where you will find answers for all your questions related to the installation of the Abra Benefits Messenger modules.

Document Audience This installation guide is intended for system administrators, system analysts and others. The guide provides comprehensive information about the system components enabling administrators to efficiently install the system.

Chapter 2: Preparing to install Abra Benefits Messenger

Before you insert the CD

Preparing for your Abra Benefits Messenger (ABM) installation Before you begin your Abra Benefits Messenger installation you must identify your current Sage Abra and, for those who have AWC‐Benefits Enrollment, AWC configuration model. Identifying the proper model will allow you to choose the right installation components and the order in which to install each component. Below you will find four (4) different installation configurations. These configurations cover the scenarios most commonly used to install and deploy Abra Suite v7.x, Abra HRMS v8.x and Abra Workforce Connections (AWC). Chapter 2 provides detail about 4 server configurations of Abra Suite v7.x and 4 server configurations of Abra HRMS v8.x. The diagrams below and the tables will guide you through the installation process. In order to make the installation process seamless, please read the “required information” column of the table prior to beginning the installation. The installation scenarios are divided into 4 installation configurations. Before we identify these scenarios we first need to define the following common terms:

Application Server: This is the machine on which the Abra Suite application components are installed. Workstation: This is the machine on which the Abra network seat client is installed. This machine is connected to the Abra Application Server. Database Server: This is the machine that hosts the Abra Database in a set‐up where the database is located on a server that is different from where the Abra program files (Application Server) are installed. For users of Abra HRMS v8, the SQL database may sometimes be installed on this second server AWC Server: When AWC‐Benefits Enrollment is installed, this is the machine on which the AWC application is installed. This is also known as the Web Server running Internet Information Services (IIS)

Firewall Requirements: A firewall is a hardware or software based system that protects a private network from external access. All traffic (data or messages) entering or leaving the network passes through the firewall. The firewall examines each piece of traffic and blocks those that do not meet the specified security criteria. If your organization has a firewall installed and configured, the ABM service uses the approved ports that are traditionally open. However, should you have explicitly made


changes to these ports, you must enable Out‐Bound communication on ports: 80,21,443 for HTTP, FTP and HTTPS requests. .Net 2.0 Requirement Each component of ABM requires .Net 2.0 installed on the machine. The utility will trigger the installation of .Net 2.0 if it is not already present. A re‐distributable version of .Net 2.0 is included on the ABM CD. Choosing between MSDE and Microsoft SQL Server The ABM components support storing data into either a MSDE environment or in a MS SQL Server. If you already have an instance of MS SQL Server running within your enterprise, it is strongly recommended that you use MS SQL Sever to store the ABM data rather than managing an MSDE installed database instance. If you do not have MS SQL Server in your organization, please proceed with using MSDE by following the steps outlined in this document. Note: if you have AWC installed, you already have a SQL Server instance which can be used to store the ABM data. Steps to install ABM will be explained for the following four server scenarios. Chose the scenario that matches your hardware configuration and the Sage Abra product(s) you have installed. Chose the Installation Scenario that matches the server configuration you have. Follow the instructions provided for that specific Installation Scenario. The Abra Benefits components and where those components should be installed are designated on the diagrams in red. Installation Scenario 1: Hardware: Single Server with one or more Network Seat Client machines Software: Abra Suite 7.x (no AWC installed) Under the following configuration, Abra is installed on an Application Server. The Abra database also resides on the Application server. One or more workstations are connected to the server.

The following are the required components that are to be installed on each machine and the order of the installation. The Abra Benefits components are highlighted on the diagram above in red. server; the AWC application is installed on a second server. The AWC application database is installed on a third server.

Software: Abra Suite 7.x with AWC‐Benefits Enrollment Under the following configuration, the Abra Application is installed on an Application Server. The Abra database and AWC database resides on the second server. AWC is installed on a third server with IIS. One or more workstations are connected to the Application server. .

The following are the required components that are to be installed on each machine and the order of the installation. The Abra Benefits components are highlighted on the diagram above in red. Chapter 3: Installing Abra Benefits Messenger

This chapter provides step‐by‐step instructions to run the installers of the Abra Benefits Messenger system including Pre‐installer, Full Installer, Client Installer and Server Components Installer.

1. When the Sage Abra Benefits software CD (an auto‐start .exe flash file) is inserted, it

will automatically enable you to start installing the different Abra Benefits Messenger software installers according to your needs. To start the Abra Benefits Messenger installation, click the SageAbra_Installer file link; see Figure 1.

2. The Sage Abra Benefits Messenger Installation Wizard main page will display; see

Figure 2.

• To view a brief description about each installerʹs function, hover the mouse over installersʹ links.

• To start installing any of the software components, click any of the available installersʹ links; see Figure 2 above.

• For more details about the Sage Abra Benefits Messenger software installation process, click the {Installation guide} link. The Installation Guide PDF file will automatically open.

• To view the CD contents, click the {Explore CD} link.

• For assistance and support contact information, click the {Support} link. The support contact information will display; see Figure 3. To go back to the Installation Tasks page, click the {Return to Installation Tasks} link.

• To visit the Sage Software homepage for more information about products and

services, click the {SageSoftware.com} link.


To exit the Sage Abra Benefits Messenger Installation Wizard, click {Exit}. An End Installation page will open; see Figure 4. Click {Yes} to end installation or click {No} to return to the installation tasks page.

The following pages include detailed descriptions of how to install and configure each installer:

1‐ Sage Abra Benefits Messenger Pre‐installer 2‐ Sage Abra Benefits Messenger Full Installer 3‐ Sage Abra Benefits Messenger Client Installer 4‐ Sage Abra Benefits Messenger Server Component Installer 5‐ Sage Abra Benefits Messenger for AWC

NOTE: If you attempt to install an installer when another user previously installed one or more of the installers on the same computer, a wizard page will open asking you either to repair the installed version or to remove it. See Figure 5 for the example ʺthe Pre‐installer.ʺ To repair it, select the Repair Sage Abra Benefits Messenger Pre‐installer option radio button. To remove it, select the Remove Sage Abra Benefits Messenger Pre‐installer option radio button. Select an option and click [Finish] to continue or [Cancel] to exit the wizard.

• If you click the [Cancel] button, a message will display indicating that the installation is not complete; see Figure 6. Click [Yes] to exit the wizard or click [No] to proceed with the repair/removal process.

• Click [Yes] and an Installation Interrupted wizard page will display indicating that the installation was interrupted and the you must restart the installer again; see Figure 7. Click [Close] to exit the installer installation wizard and go back to the Installation Main Tasks Page.

Sage Abra Benefits Messenger Pre-Installer The Sage Abra Benefits Messenger Pre‐installer is a prerequisite for the Full Installer; itʹs used to configure an existing database server connection and optionally installs MSDE (Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine).

Installing the Pre‐installer installs the following pre‐requisites:

□ Dot Net Framework 2.0 □ Windows Installer 3.1 □ MSDE: Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (optional). Instance name is

“AbraAddons” and the password is set by the user.


To start the installation of the Abra Benefits Messenger Pre‐installer, click the {Abra Benefits Messenger Pre‐installer} link; see Figure 8.

The Sage Abra Benefits Messenger Pre‐installer Wizard Welcome Page will open; see Figure 9.

To proceed with the installation, click the [Next] button.


The Select Installation Folder page will open; see Figure 10. To install the Abra Benefits Messenger Pre‐installer in the default folder, click [Next]. To choose another folder, click the [Browse] button to locate another folder on your PC.

To install the Sage Abra Benefits Messenger only for the user currently logged‐in, select the Just me option radio button. To grant access to the application for everyone who uses this computer, select the Everyone option radio button.


After the installation folder and the access options are set, click [Next]. The installer will be ready to start Sage Abra Benefits Messenger installation; see Figure 11.

To confirm starting the installation, click [Next]. To go back to the previous step, click the [Back] button.


By clicking [Next], the installation will start; see Figure 12. To stop the installation at any time, click the [Cancel] button.

6. During the installation of the Pre‐installer, you will be prompted to define the Database Server Specifications; see Figure 13.

To specify the database server type, select either the Microsoft SQL Server option radio button or the MSDE 2000 (Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine) option radio button.


□ If the Microsoft SQL Server option is selected, you will be prompted to enter database configuration information including Server Name, User Name and Password; see Figure 14. To test the connection before proceeding, click the [Test Connection] button.

NOTE: Click the [Ok] button and the Pre‐installer will automatically save the database connection information in the addonsdbconnection.ini file. The password will be saved encrypted for security reasons. This information will be used later by the Benefits Messenger Installer.

□ If the MSDE 2000 option is selected, you will be prompted to insert the

existing server password or to set a new password for a new instance.

7. Click the [Ok] button and the Sage Abra Benefits Messenger Pre‐installer installation

will be complete. Click [Close] to close the Pre‐installer wizard and move on with the installation.

Sage Abra Benefits Messenger Full Installer The Full Installer is the main installer of the Sage Abra Benefits software. This must be installed when the Abra Suite is installed on standalone workstations. Also, it needs to be installed on an Abra Suite server machine in a client‐server configuration model.

To start the installation of the Abra Benefits Messenger Full Installer, click the {Abra Benefits Messenger Full Installer} link; see Figure 17.

1. The Sage Abra Benefits Messenger Setup Wizard Welcome Page will open; see Figure 18.

To cancel the installation, click [Cancel]. To proceed with the installation, click the [Next] button.


2. The Select Installation Folder page will open; see Figure 19. To install the Abra Benefits Messenger in the default folder, click [Next]. To choose another folder, click the [Browse] button to locate another folder on your PC.

To install the Sage Abra Benefits Messenger only for the user currently logged‐in, select the Just me option radio button. To grant access to the application for everyone who uses this computer, select the Everyone option radio button.


3. After the installation folder and the access options are set, click [Next]. The installer will be ready to start the Sage Abra Benefits Messenger installation; see Figure 20.

4. The installation will start; see Figure 21. To stop the installation at any time, click the [Cancel] button.

5. During the installation of the Full Installer, the Benefits Messenger Integration Utility will be displayed; see Figure 22.

• To change the Sage Abra AbraWin.ini default file location, click the icon next to the field to select another destination. Once selected, the Abra Database section will be non‐editable.

• To set the Sample Data Path and the Live Data Path locations, click the icons next to each field respectively and select the desired destination. To test the Fox Pro connection, click the [Test Connection] button.

• In the Benefits Messenger Database section, the Abra Benefits Messenger database information will be displayed. To test the Benefits Messenger database connection, click the [Test Connection] button.


• To apply any changes made, click the [Apply] button. To cancel any

modifications, click [Cancel]. To save the changes and proceed with the installation, click [Ok] (see Figure 24).

6. The Sage Abra Benefits Messenger ReadMe file will be displayed in your default

browser. Please read the content of the file for the latest news and issues. 7. You will be prompted to restart your machine with a message (see Figure below). If

you choose the [Yes] button, the installation will be complete and the machine will automatically restart. If you choose [No], you will proceed to the next step.

8. The Full Installer installation will be complete and the wizard will display a page indicating that installation was successful; see Figure 24. Click [Close] to close the Full Installer wizard and move on with the installation.

9. Once installation is complete, the “Sage Abra Benefits Messenger” software will be

automatically added to the Start Menu with a menu item linking to the integration utility “Benefits Messenger Integration Utility.”


Sage Abra Benefits Messenger Client Installer The Client Installer is installed on Abra Suite client machines only when Abra Suite is installed in a client‐server model. The Client Installer will be also located under the “client” folder once the full installation is completed. This folder can be shared by the system administrator to facilitate installation from client machines.

To start the installation of the Abra Benefits Messenger Client Installer, click the {Abra Benefits Messenger Client installer} link; see Figure 25.

5. During the Client Installer installation, you will be prompted to specify the Benefits Messenger database configuration information; see Figure 30.

When the Database Configuration wizard page displays, insert the database‐related information including Server Name, User Name and Password; see Figure 30. To test connection before proceeding, click the [Test Connection] button. Once the connection testing is complete, a message will display. To proceed with the installation, click [Ok]. To cancel the installation, click [Cancel]; see Figure 30.

6. Click [Ok] and the Benefits Messenger Integration Utility will be displayed; see Figure 32.

modifications, click [Cancel]. To save the changes and proceed with the installation, click [Ok]; see Figure 32.


7. The Sage Abra Benefits Messenger Client Installer installation will be complete after

clicking [Ok]; see Figure 34. Click [Close] to close the Client Installer wizard and move on with the installation.

Sage Abra Benefits Messenger Server Components Installer

The Server Components Installer will be only installed when Abra Suite and Benefits Messenger databases are hosted on a remote (or separate) database server. Its installation requires software and necessary configuration files in order to be able to send benefits data files successfully according to the created schedule.

To start the installation of the Abra Benefits Messenger Server Component Installer, click the {Abra Benefits Messenger Server Component Installer} link; see Figure 35.

5. During the Server Components Installer installation, you will be prompted to specify the database configuration information; see Figure 40.

Insert the database server required information including Server Name, User Name and Password; see Figure 40. To test the connection before proceeding, click the [Test Connection] button. Once the connection testing is complete, a message will display; see Figure 41.

6. Click [Ok] and the Benefits Messenger Integration Utility will be displayed; see Figure 42.

modifications, click [Cancel]. To save the changes and proceed with the installation, click [Ok]; see Figure 42.


7. You will be prompted to restart your machine with a message (see Figure below). If you choose the [Yes] button, the installation will be complete and the machine will automatically restart. If you choose [No], you will proceed to the next step.

8. The Server Installer installation will be complete and the wizard will display a page indicating that installation was successful; see Figure 44. Click [Close] to close the Sever Installer wizard and continue with the installation.


Sage Abra Benefits Messenger for AWC The Sage Abra Benefits Messenger for AWC should be installed on the server that hosts the AWC (Abra Workforce Connection).

To start the installation of the Abra Benefits Messenger for AWC Installer, click the {Abra Benefits Messenger for AWC} link; see Figure 45.

To confirm starting the installation, click [Next]. To go back to the previous step, click the [Back] button. To cancel the installation, click the [Cancel] button.

• To change the Sage Abra AbraWin.ini default file location, click the icon next to the field to select another destination.


• In the Benefits Setup Database section, the Abra Benefits Messenger database information will be displayed. To test the Benefits Messenger database connection, click the [Test Connection] button.


• In the AWC Database section, insert the Server Name, User Name and Password and the AWC Database name. To test the AWC database connection, click the [Test Connection] button.

• If the connection fails, a message will display indicating that connection could

not be established to the AWC database; see Figure 50. Make sure you have inserted the AWC database information correctly.

• Once the connection testing is completed successfully, a message will be displayed; see Figure 51.

• To save the changes and proceed with the installation, click [Ok]; see Figure 49. • To apply any changes you made, click the [Apply] button.


• To cancel any modifications done, click [Cancel]. A message will then display indicating that the AWC installation is not competed; see Figure 52. Click [Yes] to exit wizard or click [No] to proceed with the installation.

3. Click [Yes] button and a message will display indicating that the AWC Benefits Setup installation is complete; however, the AWC configuration is not yet complete or updated; see Figure 53.

4. Click the [Ok] button and the AWC installation will be complete; see Figure 54. Click [Close] to exit the AWC Installer wizard.
