The Wolves gr. 7/8 girls and boys basketball
teams ended their season on Wed. Feb. 17 at
the Sunrise Athletic Conference tournament.
The girls played in Pinawa and the boys
played in Lac Du Bonnet. The girls lost to
Pinawa 1 team then beat Pinawa 2. Our girls
next game was against LDB with the winner
going to the zones. It was a close game right to
the end but LDB won 20-16. We had 2 boys
teams this year, a gr.6/7 team and the gr.8
team. Both boys teams had to win 2 games to
make it to zones but both boys teams ended
up with1 win and 1 loss. All of teams were just
1 win away from making the zones so the
Wolves had another successful season. Thank
you to Kelvin Fontaine for coaching the girls
basketball team. Big thank you to Alvin North
for coaching the 6/7 boys team and Rick Few-
chuk for coaching the gr. 8 boys team and to
Joey Courchene for driving. The next sport
is badminton.

Sagkeeng Education strives to provide safe and punctual transportation for our chil-
dren. The safety of our children is of the utmost importance. To maximize student
safety and arising from parents'/guardians' shared responsibility for that safety,
Sagkeeng Education advises that parents are responsible to supervise their children,
prior to their children boarding and following their children's departure from the bus.
Recently, our schools have been receiving requests from parents/guardians to have
their children dropped off at alternative places other than their homes. Sagkeeng Edu-
cation realizes that in some situations parents/guardians need to make these arrange-
ments. However, parents/guardians need to make arrangements by calling the school
early in the day. The schools have been receiving calls at the end of the school day
for students to be dropped off elsewhere. This creates confusion and an unsafe situa-
tion for the student. In some cases the messages have been received after buses
have departed from the school and the student is dropped off with no supervision at
home. The school will try their best to assist parents/guardians with their request, but
ask that parents/guardians please call the school before 2:00 p.m. and leave a phone
number where they can be reached to verify the request.
We appreciate your cooperation and assistance in working with us to ensure the con-
tinued safety and well-being of all our children.
This is to inform you that there will be no Nursery
and Kindergarten classes on Wednesday, March
2nd and Thursday, March 3rd. The teachers and
education assistants will be attending a two day
early childhood education conference in Winni-
peg. During the two days the school will be sani-
tizing toys,, equipment, tables, chairs etc.
School will resume back on Friday, March 4th and
it will be School Day 2. Group 2 will have school.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION PROGRAM
Students in Grades 2-8 have been very busy during this month participating in our Outdoor Educa-
tion program. Thanks to Lorna and Warren Hamlin, Dwight Swampy and their helpers; our stu-
dents have experienced the joy and patience of ice fishing as well as the wonders of the bush. Stu-
dents were divided into two groups and transported by snowmobile to the lake and into the bush
area of the north shore. On the lake, students were shown how to operate an ice auger, clean their
fishing hole, bait their line and use an ice fishing rod.
While in the bush students were shown the various traps and snares used on a trap line. The stu-
dents were fortunate enough to see a marten and a weasel caught in the traps. The highlight for the
Grade 4 students was seeing a moose caught in a snare that was set for a wolf. The students ob-
served the tradition of offering tobacco to the spirit of the animal. The students also got to see the
hard work involved with cleaning and transporting the moose back to the Hamlin home. Groups
that followed got to observe how the moose was skinned and prepared for various meals. Students
were also given the opportunity to take part in the preparation.
Each day students and staff were treated to a traditional meal of homemade soup and bannock as
well as hot chocolate which was prepared by Gherie Swampy, Lorna Hamlin and Tanya McPher-
son. It was a truly memorable experience for our students. The school is planning to implement
more land based education opportunities for our students. Again a Big Meegwetch to the Hamlin
Family and their volunteers.
The school would like to thank the Sagkeeng Heritage Centre for sponsoring this event. Thank you
Ms. Dina Bruyere.

Dogs Hanging Out At School Grounds
The school continues to have problems with dogs
coming to the school. The dogs are looking for
food to eat. Many students do not want to go out-
side because they are scared of the dogs. Any
dogs that come onto the school grounds will be
removed without any warning to owners. The
school and the Fire Chief are working together to
fix this problem.
