Dear Friends,
“It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than
for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” MARK 10:25. Jesus uses tough language that we may not want to hear.
But, we are all called to be generous with all our gifts. Not just
the ones we pick and choose, but all our gifts: our time in prayer
to God, our talent in participating in parish ministries and our
treasure supporting our local parish and other charities.
This weekend after all of the Masses we will have had a brief
meeting for all Lectors – new and experienced. If you missed
the meeting and would like to be a Lector at Mass please e-mail
or text to me your name, address, best phone number, e-mail,
and Mass preference. Then, in a few weeks, we will compile a
complete list of Lectors and send it out. There is also some lit-
Saint Aloysius Catholic Church A Discipleship Parish
erature that I’d like to talk with you about. Reading the Scrip-
tures at Eucharist is a great way to put into action your call to
Christian Discipleship.
Please don’t forget that on October 19, beginning at 5:00pm
there will be the St. Aloysius Celebrity Bartender Night at the
Stadium Sports Bar. This will be a great opportunity to share
fellowship with friends and family from the parish in an adult
environment. The night promises good food, creative cocktails,
and the friendly smiles of St. Al’s celebrities – an excellent St.
Al’s event. See you there!
One of the best ways to start your day is by celebrating Holy
Mass. Daily Mass helps us focus on what is most important in
life: life in Christ. Being fortified with the Eucharist, our day is
founded upon the power of grace with which we can face most
anything. On Mondays we have a Communion Service at 6:20;
On Tuesdays our daily Mass is at 8:20am with the St. Al’s stu-
dents; On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 20 - 30 people
come together at 6:20am in our church to pray together and lift
up our hearts to the Lord. Won’t you join us for daily Eucha-
rist? All are welcome!
I mentioned at Mass a few weeks ago that I am a part of a
Catholic/Lutheran dialogue group called: Project 501+. Well,
on Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 4:30 - 7:30pm at the Fran-
ciscan Chiara Retreat Center (4875 LaVerna Rd.) we are spon-
soring an event called: Re-Formed in Baptism. There will be
Evening Prayer in St. Francis Church at 4:30pm followed by
Speakers (Rev. Dr. Richard Chiola and Rev. Dr. Charlene Ra-
chuy-Cox). The evening will conclude with a dinner and dis-
cussion. A free-will donation will be gratefully accepted for the
dinner. Please consider joining me at this very interesting
event. RSVP to Chiara Center (217) 523-0901. More informa-
tion about this event will be included in future bulletins. I hope
to see you there. All are welcome!
When I shop on-line, I help St. Aloysius Catholic School with
free donations by using iGive.com. The stores at iGive make
this possible because they want you to like them and shop at
them over and over again. There's 1912 socially-responsible
stores helping to make donations happen. You will recognize
most of them. At any rate, I do and I’m not much of a shopper.
I-Give.com would remind you of what we have come to know
as “script”, except this is on-line. I hope you'll give it a try. To
learn more or sign up go to: https://www.iGive.com/URWaL.
Join me in praying a rosary each day during the month of Octo-
ber for the welfare of our parish. Be assured of my daily
prayers for you and for your family.
With Pastoral Affection, Fr. Clint, O.P.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the Catholic Charities Food drive. St. Aloysius
brought in over 4700 pounds of food this last month. It was the most actual food weight
per student of any school in the drive. Congratulations to Elly Wagner for getting her
name drawn to throw a pie in my face. You can catch the video on the school Facebook
page.
Thanks to all those who came to the 8th grade car wash last Sunday. They will be doing
some other fund-raisers through the year to help raise funds to attend the Right to Life in
Chicago.
Congratulations to our September Charger of the Month, Alex B. from 8th grade. To
qualify for this award, students must have all A's and B's in their classes, no late or miss-
ing work, up-to-date service hours, and a positive Christian attitude.

The Environmental Club would like to invite you to help us make a difference. We are
participating in the Ronald McDonald House Charities pop tab challenge. It is easy to
help! Just save your pop tabs and send them in to school. We will do the rest. Have grand-
parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, and friends join in by saving their pop tabs for
you. Together we can make a difference!
Our weekly Saturday bingo at Caritas Hall supports our school budget. It takes a lot
of volunteers throughout the year. This is also a great opportunity to earn service hours. It
is especially important that ALL our school families step up to work some of these weekly
sessions. These monies benefit the school by keeping our tuition costs down. Many thanks
for your cooperation and participation, and thank you to these volunteers the last weeks…

Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time – 14 October
2018 -The REAL prosperity Gospel. Don’t we like to think that
wealth solves our problems? Don’t we wish, at least from time
to time, to win the lottery, to have wealth, to have “more than
enough”? Yet Jesus says to the man of many possessions: give
it to the poor so you can thread the needle into the Kingdom of
God. Whew! Not what we want to hear. Not what some of us
believe. The real prosperity Gospel is having “just enough”.
The real prosperity Gospel is seeing that no one goes with-
out.
What mercy work will I do today? *How can I care for
those poorer than me?
What will I share, divest, give away this week?
Forty Days of Life…. September 26 - November 4, 2018...
For too long abortion has been legal. For too long Christians
have been silent. Please pray for those who cannot defend
themselves.
Google Translate
You see it all over social media. Google Translate gets used to
translate some familiar lines from English into another lan-
guage. Spanish, French, Tagalog, Hindi, pick one.
Then used again to translate it back into English. And what
comes out is very different.
The syntax is off. Phrases are out of order. Familiar words re-
placed by new ones. Maybe there’s some unintentional humor.
Usually it just sounds odd.
I bring this up, because if we’re used to the classic version of
the Our Father that we pray at Mass, the NABRE version of the
Our Father (in St. Luke’s Gospel) can sound like this is what
someone did to the Lord’s Prayer.
Father, hallowed be your name,
your Kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread
and forgive us our sins
for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us,
and do not subject us to the final test.
So what do we do with something like this, something that
sounds so odd?
We can reject it.
It lacks the charm of familiar things.
We can let it pass by.
It has no rhythm to help it stay with us.
Or we can take a moment to think about what it’s saying. To
let its very oddness unpack the Our Father for us.
Until its irregular lines and strange phrases crack the shell of
familiarity. Renewing the prayer taught by Jesus.
So that the version we all know by heart can be again the
source of grace that Our Lord meant it to be.
-Deacon Jim

The Annual Catholic Services Appeal has begun! The programs, services and minis-
tries supported by the Annual Catholic Services Appeal meet the larger di-
ocesan needs of Catholics and others in the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois.
The theme this year for the Annual Catholic Services Appeal is “IN GRATI-TUDE FOR GOD’S ABUNDANT BLESSINGS”. A letter was sent to each
Catholic household in the diocese asking for your support. The diocese serves each of us
and our financial support is needed to continue God’s work in the diocese.
Boiler update….We have collected $84,326.06 (October 10, 2018) towards this project.
Asbestos removal has been completed. Henson Robinson Company was the low bidder
on the new boiler, they have begun taking out the old this week. The new boiler is ex-
pected to arrive in early November and be installed and working before Thanksgiving. If
we can collect the additional $45,000 to reach our goal by the end of November, we can
avoid having to ask the Diocese for a loan. If you haven’t contributed yet, please help St.
Al’s raise the needed funds for this new boiler. If you have already contributed, again
thank you, and please consider making an additional contribution.
October is the month of the rosary....During this month of October, pray and medi-
tate on the mysteries of the rosary. Let the faith and love of Mary inspire you for times of
trial. She will point you to Christ. Pray that God’s people will not abandon the faith in the
face of difficult times. Pray they may receive the grace to stand at the cross and to re-
member…true promises are indeed hard to keep.
RCIA meets every Wednesday at the parish house. You can contact the parish office (544
-4544) to obtain more information. Now is the time to talk to that friend or
family member and invite them to RCIA. Your word or deed can make a
difference. The RCIA Schedule includes: October 17, 7:00pm Jesus of
Nazareth/Jesus the Christ, with Greg Stumpf. October 24, 7:00pm Church
History, Ernie Waite. October 31, 7:00pm , No Session, November 1, All Saints Day,
Mass at 6:20 and 8:20am, November 7, 7:00pm, Last Things: Death, Judgment, Heaven,
Hell, Purgatory, and Limbo , Harvey Schrenk. November 14, 7:00pm, Mary and the
Saints, Mary Jane Stahr.
The MINI-MEGA RAFFLE kicks off next week! The raffle tickets are a major fundrais-
ing undertaking for the school and parish and we are asking you to make every effort to
sell these, not just to people in the parish, but to anyone you happen to know. As we have
stated many times, tuition only covers half of the cost to educate one child, and this is a
new initiative to help us meet those costs of education. Tickets will be sold for $20, with
a payout of $5,000.00 on Thursday, December 20. Two Early Bird awards of $100 will be
Sunday, November 4, and Thursday, December 6. Tickets will also be available at the
parish and school office beginning the week of October 22. A special thanks to Staab
Funeral home and O’Connor Mailing for sponsoring this event and tickets printed cour-
tesy of HSHS-Hospital Sisters Health Systems.
Attention all Liturgical Ministers! Important information regarding the lit-urgy schedule! Fr. Clint will be holding an informational meeting, after all the masses
this weekend...October 13-14 - for all Lectors. Servers will meet next, Sunday October 21

pm to 7:30 pm at Chiara Center. This is a Project 510+ Lutheran-Catholic dialogue event

welcome requests for a part of our tithe. The tithe is then distributed by an anonymous committee in the name of the parish.
